Toronto obviously like getting s guy on a long term deal. They aren't free agency players.

The Grizzlies are in quite a mess. They are now down to the following 8 healthy players:

Jacob Gilyard
G.G. Jackson
Luke Kennard
John Konchar
David Roddy
Xavier Tillman Sr.
Ziaire Williams
Vince Williams Jr.

They sure could use Jordan Poole!

:)

Bane, JJJ and Aldama are "day-to-day". They'll be back soon, so that the Grizzlies will hopefully remain a functioning NBA team and not be tanking competitor for us. Though, I guess it won't be long before they punt on the season and start load managing guys. They definitely won't be making win-now moves by trading future capital for rotation players.

Thoughts on the Pacers acquiring Pascal Siakam?

Good move. Adds defense to a team that plays none. Strengthens them inside. And gives them a second low-key star. They’re pretty deep. Got a great coach. And now they’re in position to — maybe — add a third star down the line.

I think Toronto did very well to get that much value out of a guy who will be an unrestricted free agent in 40 games.

They've managed to rebuild on the fly and get out of their dead-end situation with Siakam and OG both expecting max or near-max contracts for a team that was stuck in 40-win purgatory.

They now have a young core of Barnes (22), Barrett (23), Quickley (24) and Gradey (20) plus the 2024 IND FRP, the 2024 OKC FRP, and the 2026 IND FRP. They also have a couple of solid vets like Poeltl, Schroeder and Boucher locked up next year on fair contracts. They have a clean cap sheet for the foreseeable future with the potential to have $50M in cap room this summer if they let Bruce Brown go.

They owe their 2024 FRP to San Antonio (top 6 protected, rolls over to 2025 and then to 2026 if not conveyed). I don't think they can tank their way into keeping the pick, but if they get lucky in the lottery, they'll keep it.

I think the raps ended up in tommy shep territory. They made some stupid moves, then made out on some really good trades to try and fix the stupid they self inflicted.

Yeah, it seemed like Griffin was a bad hire from when Terry Stotts ended up leaving before the season started. Granted the Bucks are 30-13 although the Bucks were on pace for even more wins last season and some of the Bucks losses have been dumbfounding.

When I watched the bucks they frequently looked disinterested which is odd for a title contender.

I believe I could coach the Bucks to a 30-13 record and the Wizards to a 7-35 record. And I don’t think Doc Rivers could do any better. Very few coaches are difference makers in this league until the playoffs where they have more control on the outcomes, but still not that much.

Man, that’s harsh. Being fired with the second best record in the conference. Not enough style points I guess.

Does Doc Rivers even have a good reputation at this point? Why is his name always linked everywhere

OKC is going to be so sick over the next decade. Just looking at the 2024 offseason:

Currently have the 10th and 11th pick in the draft.

Roughly $46 million in cap room once you remove the cap holds.

Tradeable contracts in Giddey, Kenrich Williams, and Dieng. The decision on Giddey is going to be massive, because they could package him and picks or just package him on his own and restart the clock on someone else. Jalen-Chet-SGA is their core, and if one of their picks breaks through, great, if not, they'll restart the clock on everyone else just to keep their core around. It's brilliantly laid out.

I'd like to see them make a move and trade some of their war chest of picks for one more really good youngish vet that fits well. I'm not sure how long they should sit back and be patient. They're good enough to try and win titles right now. And pretty soon, guys will start getting expensive and it will be tougher to hold everything together.

I'd love to see them trade Giddey and picks for Markkanen. A closing lineup of Chet, Markkanen, Williams, SGA and Wallace would be ridiculous.

Honestly, the guy that would be absolutely perfect for them is Avdija. He gives them toughness, defense and rebounding that they lack and he is a ball mover to fit their system, but teams won't leave him alone from 3 like they do with Giddey. And finally, he is cheap for another 4 years to free up salary for them to pay their stars.

Heard some interesting trade speculation on the Hoops Tonight podcast. If the Bucks implode and Giannis wants out, there is one team that has the assets to trade for him, is a contender and badly needs size/defense/rebounding at the 4. That is OKC.

As a side note, this podcast is pretty good. Jason goes into details of what is going on in these games after studying film and analyses individual games several times a week, focusing on the marquee matchups.

He does have an annoying fascination with the Lakers though but other than that it is a good podcast.
