Who should be the next coach of the Washington Wizards?

If Ted isn't cheap, he has Grunfeld on the phone to Larry Brown right now. Is it a coincidence that there's a story in the press this morning about Larry Brown hoping to get back into coaching?

Pay Larry Brown $1M to be the interim coach and see if he can whip this painfully dumb and mentally weak "young talent" into shape. It's a mutual audition and if there's any coach in NBA history who can get through to this crazy bunch, it's the guy who tamed Allen Iverson.

let these knuckleheads finish the season, its a lockout shortened one and will be over before we know it

You do realize that by offering Larry Brown the interim coaching job we are in no way procluded from hiring Joerger in April, right?

Brown couldn't turn the Knicks and Bobcats around so what makes you think he can do anything for this team?

I want someone hungry for a chance, so stay away from the big names and re-tread former head coaches.

1. Dave Joerger-assistant Memphis (A lot of us have been on this guy for awhile)
2. David Blatt--international coach (An out of the box choice who has shown a lot internationally)
3. Mike Budenholzer---assistant San Antonio Spurs (top assistant of Popovich)
4. Other random assistant coaches with good reputations and with drive and ambition
5. Bill Laimbeer---tough, former player, with head coaching experience in the WNBA

I still say get a jerry sloan disciple. Someone who studied under Jerry Sloan or Jerry Sloan himself.

Joerger is the guy I would have hired back when they picked Flip. Plus he's had the benefit of being an NBA assistant the past few years to go along with his minor league success.

I like Blatt.

Budenholzer is a good guy. I had the chance to talk with him a couple times when the Spurs were in DC, and I liked him a lot.

I'd be open to a Laimbeer. He won in the WNBA, for whatever that's worth. He's assisting in Minnesota now. In theory, he would bring some toughness to the team.

Popovich assistant would be ideal. Jerry Sloan or assistant also would be good. Need a heavy point assist offense that has experienced multiple playoff years but more importantly was none as a top defensive system. Spurs and Jazz meet that criteria. The only systems i would trust.
Getting a taller coach who was known for his defense helps as long as he has assistants who have alot of experience with attacking zone defenses but also also have young project allstar point guard coaching experience.
Popo did it with Parker and Sloan did it with Deron and i am sure there assistants were heavily involved and can bring that experience to the washington and wall.

Wittman, 52, has more than four years of previous head coaching experience. In two years in Cleveland and three in Minnesota, he posted a record of 100-207. In his last stint, with Minnesota, he was fired after the Timberwolves started the 2008-09 season 4-15.

Not Wittman please.

That is about 10 * funnier than the Tebow for coach joke I was going to make.

Also, I like Lambeer, but I'm going to have to say no. My self-esteem has taken a big enough drubbing w/o all of the WNBA jokes that would cause.

This team needs a major image overhaul. IMO they need a total restructuring with known and respected people to regain any sense of credibility at this point.

Something like Larry Brown as team president, Danny Ferry GM, Marc Jackson coach could work.

John Thompson or JVG would be good scenarios as well.

No college coach. No former head coach looking for one last pay day. No Larry Brown or John Thompson the elder types either.

Get the best, most qualified NBA assistant who has demonstrated ability and has the qualities of leadership, intelligence, drive, and ambition. Allow him to assemble the best staff possible. Revamp other parts of the operation as well.

But avoid the re-tread route at all costs. Avoid getting someone who has already made their reputation and has enough money in the bank as well.
