Would you take 17 and D Williams for 3? Tough call. I'd say no. I think Williams will be a good player but he's a tweener and doesn't have the necessary ability to attack off the wing.

He's a tweener. But that's awfully quick to give up on a guy. Wondered why the hell they drafted him.

This deal makes me think a trade down is definitely in play.
If they really wanted Beal then why telegraph it with this trade, practically inviting another team to trade for the 2nd pick?
If they really wanted MKG why bring in Ariza? If they wanted TRob why bring in Okafor?
EG says they want to win now but this team is woefully short of shooting and has limited ability to address that problem through free agency. I wouldn't be surprised if they trade with Portland.

Re: 2012 Draft, Part VI (Draft Week is Here!)
Finally got a chance to update YODA with the draft combine info. Zeller moved up with strong scores in everything except length, which was bad. YODA suggests Zeller will be a good pro.
Beal still in a group with other freshman SGs: Jordan, Vince Carter, Drexler. A tier ahead of other frosh SGs like Juan Dixon, Francisco Garcia, Jeremy Lamb, Tony Allen. A couple tiers ahead of guys like Jason Richardson and Ben Gordon.
MKG maintains a solid position as essentially a co-equal with Beal. Similar frosh SFs in YODA (overall score, not a stylistic comparison): Thaddeus Young, Grant Hill, Quentin Richardson, Xavier Henry, Rudy Gay.
Plumlee really helped himself in YODA. He went from a mid-2nd round grade to a mid-first with his outstanding scores for athleticism.
Here are the rankings in YODA by players with similar overall scores:

I think Williams struggled because he was out of position last season. He's a PF and I think he'd be good at that spot -- but Kevin Love kinda has that spot locked up.
Minnesota also has Beasley, who's another guy I think would benefit from a full-time shift to PF.

Re: 2012 Draft, Part VI (Draft Week is Here!)
The more I look at the mocks, the more I see GSW being in the toughest spot in the draft. They are likely either going to be looking at Drummond or Lillard as the top guy left on the board, neither of which is their greatest need (a dynamic swingman). But the teams that would presumably have guys they'd want (Deng in Chicago, Iggy in Philly, etc) don't seem IMO that they would be interested in Drummond/Lillard either. Yes, Philly needs a big, but are they willing to wait on Drummond to develop?
Maybe the best thing for them would be for Barnes to slip and they just take him as BPA?

Call me very satisfied with that if it happens.

Would you change your screen name to "Very Satisfied"? Otherwise I'll still call you CCJ....

Saw the piece; I actually do a bunch of work in the H Street area that is referenced. Between the mochifacation (how do you like that!) for DC and MJ being long gone, you may be due for a change. Talk it through with Nivek; he's been through three screen names and has survived to tell about it. You're only 40 posts away from 25K; perfect timing.

Speaking of which, I'm starting to think it's time for a new moniker. Just to keep things confusing.

But fish, I feel like a part of a dying breed, just like Chuck Baby. There is a connection with George Clinton and Parliament that I still hold near and dear. I dunno … but I will think about it.

I think middle of the road. His downward dog was phenomenal, but his tree pose left something to desired.

He rated 2nd overall last year -- a top 5 pick in most drafts. I think he can still be a good pro, but I think he'll do better with a move to PF. I'm less confident that Beasley can become a high-quality pro, but I'd love to see someone give him a shot as a full-time PF.

CCJ, to borrow (and revise) a saying from DC native Duke Ellington: "Life has two rules. Rule #1: Never, ever give up on the P-Funk. Rule #2: Always remember Rule #1."
