Re: GT: Wizards @ 76ers 1-30-13 7:00pm
Here's the issue.
The owner wants to play D and run
The point guard is built to run and play in the open floor.
The coach claims he wants them to run but all he does is feed the post and pack it in, compacting the floor.
The two highest players can't run
The two highest paid players slow down the offese (Nene moreso than Okafor)
This is ****ed up!

Was at work while the game was on so I didn't catch any of it.
But how troubling is it that our star guard, John Wall, in TEN games this year, has yet to make a 3pt shot?
Good lord.

Doesn't bother me at all...I want him to focus on the midrange.

the one he took tonight was fugly
I agree with you it's a problem. Opponents should beg him to shoot that shot the
way he's shooting it right now.
ps - I made a suggestion last year IIRC about Holiday and Wall questioning who was
better and got some derisive response. Holiday is now an AllStar. Ty Lawson is pretty
good too. Not saying to trade john by any means. Just talkin out loud.
If John's right about only his being 75% then fine. Holiday is a tough match up for him
as he has similar size and athleticism. Plus Holiday has a better J.

I was perturbed by Temple starting....
I thought the starting lineup would have had Ariza in it for sure.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

I was less concerned about Temple starting (as opposed to Ariza) but
surprised how little Crawford played. We could have used someone
that could create a little offense. PHL stymied our passing game.

Wall shoots the long 2 at, what, about 32-35%?
He'd shoot the 3 at about 28-30%. But it's (obviously) worth an extra point and much more efficient.
The fact that he's completely abandoned the 3pt shot is troubling to me, especially considering the "long 2" is the least efficient shot in basketball.

It is only troubling if you continue to be assuming that he "is our star guard".

There's too many variables that have to been place for the Wizards to excel. The talent level is just too low. Everything has to be working perfectly and it's just unrealistic to expect this roster to have perfect health & and everyone playing at the best for 82 games.
And yet the salary cap strategy suggests that Grunfeld thought this team would be at least a playoff team. Wow.

You know what? Wall shouldn't be shooting either long 2's or 3's. He's terrible at both and so both are shots NBA coaches would consider terrible shots. Yet Wall looks for them actively and early in the shot clock.

John has no chemistry with Temple. I'd rather start Ariza at the 2. John needs a good 2 and 3 to be effective. He has zippy.
Agreed, this board is a complete joke. 3 days ago it's stay the course with the current team, now it's trade Wall for anyone that can make a jumper and start over. It would be laughable if it weren't so irritating to read.
We started Garrett Temple at the 2. Enough said.
We have the most offensively challenged outfit in the entire league w/o Wall. This team is not built to take advantage of Wall's skill set. It's ridiculous some of the lineups were putting out there and expecting Wall to make miracles happen.
Get some shooters, see the paint open up. Then you can see Wall run the offense like a machine and finish at the rack at will because he won't have to finish over 2, 3 or 4 players every time.
But until you have a different front office, my guess is we won't see it DC.
I still think Wall will be a star, maybe just not here.

Couldn't have said it any better.

So Randy's solution to Beal taking some time off was to start Temple at SG ?
Didn't see that coming.
So Beal is out and Randy has officially iced Crawford who was their leading scorer. Great.

Crawford looked like he was sulking as soon as he came into the game. It has to be a bit insulting to have a scrub like Temple starting in front of you. I don't know that Crawford is professional enough to accept that.

Re: GT: Wizards @ 76ers 1-30-13 7:00pm
well that was ugly all around. Webster is the only one who gives 100% every night. NeNe is just terrible at this point. he can barely elevate, he can't score and he turns the ball over constantly.
Wall has gone back to playing like the Wall of old lately. wreckless, careless, and out of control. i like hsi effort defensively but offensively he was pretty bad. i'm accepting the fact he will never be able to shoot and will never be an efficient scorer. that 3 pointer he took in the 4th was cringe worthy and embarrassing.
Wittman deserves most of the blame imo. Ever since the Utah game the offense has been terrible. too much iso ball and not enough ball movement or executed set plays.
looks like the boost Wall gave the team when he initally came back wore off quickly. all star break can not come soon enough for this team.

Snap back to reality. Good to be back on that top 3 pick track.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

I agree 100 percent. Wall gets zero support and loyalty from Wizards fans here. It's ridiculous.

I think Crawford has been very professional considering how Randy has yanked his chain all year.
So how do you think you would handle what has been tossed at him.
Temple, Mack, Pargo starting over you as PG
A 19 year old kid starting over you at SG
And now a DL call up starting over you at SG
And with all of that, you are still the scoring leader on the team even though he played hurt for 5 weeks.
If I was Crawford, I would ask to be traded.

This kind of play from Wall is what had CCJ and myself ragging on him so hard last year.
He started like crap. Eventually he had a light bulb moment and he played better. Then he reverted again. Then he got better again.
Maybe eventually his play will level out but for right now, his game is not smooth, polished or consistent.
Athleticism over skill.
They should not be locked into building around him. Not sure I would say they definitely shouldn't, but by no means have I seen anything to says they definitely should.
As for today, Beal is looking more like the long term piece than Wall is. There are lots of good PGs in the league. You don't want to over pay for one when that money can be better used elsewhere. Hell, look how good Vasquez is doing.
Can't give up on him yet. He is still a young man. He came to a destroyed team. Missed his first opportunity to have a summer camp because of the strike and then he was injured to start this year. But Vasquez was drafted the same year as Wall so ?
