The East is wretched dreck, will there be a correction to balance things out in-time for the playoffs?

If you look at the team we have beaten recently, they have been relatively weak. around .500 team or lower. Also we have had the 6th easiest schedule so far. It will porbably get tough really soon.

Hard to imagine BRK stays this bad. They got off to a bad start and then caught the injury bug.

Plus Cleveland could turn it around if Bynum can stay healthy. He seems like he is slowly warming up.

I saw injuries as the key to BRK, NY and CLE so with some health, they can get back in it. Except I don't care for NY much. Even healthy, they don't have enough defense.

No. It won't. We play in the East. Our schedule is always going to be easy. All 15 teams in the West will play a harder schedule, and the worst teams in the East will play a harder schedule than the best teams in the East (because the best teams don't have to play themselves).

We will finish the year having played one of the 10 easiest schedules in the league.

I don't buy that SoS ranking. We've played more .500 teams than anyone else in the East except Boston and the only teams that played more road games than us were Boston, Atlanta, and Brooklyn.

Out West, we've played the same number of games against .500+ teams as San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Denver, and Minnesota. The only ones that have played more are Houston, the Clippers, Dallas, and Utah. The only team that's played more road games than us in the West is Golden State.

We took a Texas trip in November and played both Indy and Miami on the road. The schedule has NOT been easy.

Agreed, the schedule is going to get easier.

- We don't have another 4 straight back to backs stretch. We do have a chunk of back to backs in January which will be tough since so many of them are away, but the Indy/Houston one is the only really tough match up.

- We've got a very home heavy month coming up in February.

- And we've already played Miami, Indy, San Antonio, and Oklahoma City on the road. Those are probably the four best teams in the league and four of our eight scariest road games over with in the first month (the other four being @ Miami and @ Indy again + @ Denver and @ Portland).

Getting through November at 8-9 with all of the injuries we had and starting off 0-3 was our biggest hurdle of the regular season. If we can keep rolling now and get some of our guys back from injury, we should have a good year.

It might have been stated elsewhere, but I just realized the Wizards have the 3rd best record in the east.

New Orleans, the Lakers, Memphis, Phoenix and Memphis are all somewhere between a game above to a game below .500, and all in the lottery at this point. Man the east sucks. I am beginning to think it is pretty much guaranteed that the Wizards are making the playoffs this year.

Not only that but right now, for the moment etc, it appears that we actually
could have a chance to have home court advantage in the first round.
It would appear that CHI and ATL will be our main competition for that 3-4
slot. It kinda sucks that the ATL div winner automatically gets a top 4 seed
since we could well finish ahead of them, probably TOR.

Hard to believe but easy to enjoy the incredible suckitude of the Knicks
and Nets. Not sure either has their 1st rnd pick, I know the Knicks don't
and there is no protection. Ouch.

Even if the wheels came completely off our cart and we didn't make the
playoffs, at least our forsaken pick is protected.

Pablo (Argentina)

In your opinion, is this the worst eastern conference ever?
Chad Ford (1:17 PM)

I don't think you even need my opinion. I believe that statistically, it's the worst it's ever been. Two good teams right now. One mediocre one. Rest are flat out bad.

I think he was referring to the Hawks. That quote was prior to the Horford injury.

You just knew the Nets will "get it" eventually and even in the weak East, they always had a shot. Now sitting in 8th place.

I don't think either IND or MIA is exactly trembling in their shoes at that thought though.

It would simply be nice to finish 6th or higher. Even nicer to have HC 'advantage'
even if right now it doesn't seem to exist for us.

Yes - all that matters is getting into the top 6. From there, I don't care about home court, because the Wiz seem to struggle there anyway.

Obviously, MIA and IND have the top 2 spots locked up, and the Atlantic winner will take a third. If BKN does indeed put it together and stay healthy, they could move into the top 6 - or claim the 3rd/4th spot, leaving the Raptors to claim another of the playoff spots. (Although to hear the GM, they may just make some moves and drop out of top-6 contention anyway.) Assuming TOR & BKN both finish top 6, that leaves two more spots before you get into a MIA or IND first round matchup.

In spite of Horford's injury, ATL is hanging tough. I'd be very surprised if they don't make the playoffs, and expect them to also compete for top-6, if not the #3 spot.

That leaves the Wiz fighting CHA (fading), CHI (surging, surprisingly), and longer shots like DET, BOS, and NYK to stay out of a death match 1st round series.

This team always sucks me in and then hits me in the gut as soon as I start to believe. But I do think they will hold on to at least 6th in the East, with a likely 1st round matchup against ATL, TOR, or BKN. The next 4 weeks are tough, but the back end of the schedule is quite favorable. Not that that has mattered to the Wiz....

the Atlantic winner is not guaranteed 3rd. They are guaranteed top 4
but even at that, it's somewhat meaningless as they are not guaranteed
home court as a 4th seed if the 5th seed has a better record.

ooops - I misread what you wrote - You were just saying the Atlantic div
winner is a 3rd (out of the 8) team that is in. My reading comprehension
sometimes sucks.

And he comes BRK.

Won at OKC, then at home wins against CLE, ATL, GS and MIA

Now they have to show they can keep it up with games on the road at TOR, ATL, NY. If they get through that well, it looks like they have finally figuring things out.

Part of their problem in having to many star types and what style of ball to play. With Brooks out and now Williams, there is room for PP and Joe Johnson to step up.

And Shawn Livingston is starting to post some good games.

Well things are starting to lock in

INDY and MIA are pretty locked at 1 and 2

TOR has an easy schedule, hard to see them falling past 4 but they are in a battle with CHI who is rolling. CHI has more tough game remaining so TOR probably gets 3rd with CHI 4th. But the Wizards are right in there challenging and have an easy schedule the remaining year but so does TOR.

Wizards have the Nene injury so we have to see how they are with AH, Miller and now Gooden, but they have an easy schedule so they should be able to keep winning enough to stay 5th at a min.

CHA has been winning but with a really easy schedule. They have OKC, MIA and IND the next 3 games so I expect them to lose 2 of 3 if not all 3. We should gain some seperation.

BRK has made a nice run and have some talent but fast teams hurt them. They are built to grind it out not to run. I see them battling CHA for 6th

ATL tanked like I said they would a week or so ago. There is still a small chance they could suck enough and CLE with Hawes, Deng and Jack get hot enough they CLE makes 8th, but that window isn't going to stay open much longer.

So it looks like Wiz vs TOR or CHI. vs CHI would be the most exciting series with more national exposure.
