Same leg as his hamstring

Camp Blog.

We've already documented both Emeka Okafor and Chris Singleton's injuries, but the team also began camp without the likes of both Otto Porter (hip flexor) and Trevor Booker (knee). Porter got nicked up recently in a voluntary workout at Verizon Center, where he slipped and tweaked his hip. He didn't give a timetable for when he thinks he'll be back, but said to consider him day-to-day. Hopefully we'll see him before we break camp on Wednesday. As for Book, he mentioned yesterday on our Live Stream that he had a procedure on his knee a few weeks ago, but said he doesn't expect to be sidelined for too long. He's also day-to-day.

So the Booker thing was already know, so people shouldn't freak. Would like to know more about what the procedure was though. Booker did participate in part of the drills and workouts.

Hey, lets not forget to smell the roses.

We have a coach that is all about defense.

We might not have 10 available players to start the season. Porter, Okafor and Singleton are probably out for opener. Can't wait for the season. :(

Only Okafor would have played much or at all to start the season. This really isn't a big deal other the Okafor and even that present opportunities.

But it's depth concern and what if EG trades Ariza? Then Otto will have to play some. I don't care about Singleton but it adds up he can play the 3 or 4. Okafor's defense and rebounding is just not replaceable on this roster. Hopefully, the Porter is injury is as minor as it appears to be. If he's out for an extended period, this might be a wasted year for OP.

Ariza taking lead for starting SF spot?

http://www.bulletsforever.com/2013/9/30 ... on-wizards

The benefits would be it would improve the D in the starting 5 with Okafor out. Maybe figure we got offense with Nene & Harrington at C/PF, and Beal at SG, so balance out the lineup with Ariza at SF and bring Webster off the bench for added O. Also could help boost Ariza's trade value.

Avoids disaster almsot turning his ankle, but somehow his knee swelling up on the first day of practice is no reason for concern? Smh.

For someone who wasn't even cleared to run until 3-4 months ago, it seems crazy that Beal can throw it down the way he can in those workout videos.

Also, at 0:44 in the day 3 video, that cross-court gets picked off 10 times out of 10 because the guy defending won't be as clueless as Jan Vesely.

They have 15 signed. 3 are injured. And of them, only Okafor was important to start the year.

If this, if that. Can't worry about that to much. Its something to watch, but that about it. Things look at lot better this year going into camp then they did last year, that's what I can see.

Wall should be a lot better. Same with Beal. AH and Maynor should help a lot with depth. And Kevin, Ves and Booker all had good summers. Plus whatever they get from Glen. They seem to be having a more focused camp. Going hard but only one practice a day. Randy in year 2.

Lots of thing to feel better about over last year. That's what I will mostly focus on.

Thanks to Nenê and Okafor, the Wizards boast one of the more formidable defensive back lines in the East. But that duo may not take the floor next season, as it was announced Okafor would be out indefinitely with a herniated disk in his neck. As of now, it's unclear if Okafor will play this season.

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/preview2 ... r-profiles

Wow, Pelton seems to be a bit more bearish on Okafor's return than many here, questioning if he's even going to play this year (article date of 9/27). This quote comes a week after he made the comment below (chat date of 9/20), in which he was still trying to get confirmation on the severity of the injury and questioned if it was really a big deal or not.

Mike (DC)

Will the Wizards regress at all with the Okafor injury?
Kevin Pelton (1:14 PM)

Speaking of this ... I'm still trying to get a sense of how long Okafor is likely to miss. The discussion right away was dire -- talk of retirement or missing the entire season -- but have also heard that even if Okafor is having surgery, we're talking potentially as little as 10 weeks. Right now, that would translate into a little more than a month. So I'm not sure it's a huge deal, though in what figures to be a contested battle for the last playoff spots in the East a game or two could loom large.

That's fair comment from Pelton given that the time window the team provided was "indefinite." Okafor had some comment to the effect that he hoped to play this season and that he was not contemplating retirement. I do think he will play, but it's reasonable to wonder if he might miss the season.

Aren't teams allotted the ability to sign a FA if they are stricken with a considerable injury? Or is there more to that stipulation...like aforementioned player must be ruled out for the season?

When the news of Okafor's injury first broke I wrote in this forum that he'd miss a huge portion of the season, try to come back too early, get injured again quickly and go back on the shelf. Basically, the season would be a total loss for him. Sticking with that. This is the Wizards. Whatever the worst-case scenario with Okafor is, things will play out at or near that.

And they'll miss him. A lot.

I wonder how long it takes before Ted and Ernie come out and blame the early season losses on injuries. I say 3 weeks.

Maybe Ted is shrinking already. He said Ves looks 7-1

Could Ves still be growing ?
