Exactly why I'd take him over Ariza 10 times outta 10. This is gonna be one of the best signings of the offseason.

I love this move.

Not much more I can say about it. I'll take Pierce on two year MLE money over Ariza on a four year 8 mil per deal outright.

I wanted us to sign Vince Carter in lieu of Ariza and was a little bummed to see him go to Memphis. I like this deal way better.

I thought for sure Pierce would cost more than what we could pay him.

Ah, so he timed his deal to coincide with the remainder of the President's term. The 2-year deal makes sense now. :P

I just posted a zillion negative things about the Wizards letting Ariza go.

In an instant, I am good with this. Never saw this coming.

One concern: is Pierce allowed to wear red and blue at the same time?

(ducks)

Agreed.

This shows that Pierce respects Wall and Beal.

EG going all in on Gortat is okay now.

I like this a lot. It's shocking TBH.

Agreed.

I think everyone is happy now!

That is the best part. I didn't want pressure on Porter.

This is awesome. Pierce commands respect. He is also at the point in his career where he can sit and watch young guys grow. He doesn't need heavy minutes.

Wow. The Wizards have really surprised.

I can agree on that, I have faith in Porter and I think he would have been fine, but this is probably an Ideal situation for him!

keynote wrote:Yeah, I won't go so far as to call it a talent upgrade, either. Pierce can't defend wings the way Ariza can -- and he certainly can't bottle up PGs the way Ariza did for stretches last year. Unless Porter can really step up, we'll miss Ariza's versatility on defense.

But Pierce is a better ball handler and a better mid-range scorer. And, he's bulky enough to play stretch 4 in a pinch. And he's cheaper. If Ariza had inked that 4 year deal, we'd be crossing our fingers that Webster came back quickly enough from his injury to get traded by the deadline. Signing Pierce to a short deal alleviates the pressure to move Webster, and allows us to keep our depth.

I've said it many times, Ariza would be a loss defensively due to that versatility. He did help John out many times when he struggled with PGs. However, I'm looking at a Cleveland matchup at some point in the playoffs and I'd rather have PP than OP defending Bron. And hell, I'd give up a little D to get a future HOFer who can make shots late in the game.

Wittman must have also earned Pierce's respect. The Wizards did own Brooklyn last season.

Agreed! and we have to realize that it's not like Pierce is not a scrub on D! so it's not like we are loosing that much!
