He had that one good season in Memphis when he averaged 20, 5 and 5 with a TS% of .561 and a 3P% of .399. For most of the rest of his career, he has been an inefficient, barely replacement caliber player since age 26.

On the other hand, he is (or was, at least) a big wing who can handle, pass and score. He might fit in nicely with our decentralized motion offense and switching defense.

He is now eligible to sign with any team. I imagine contending teams that are short wing players might want him the most, but most of them are deep into the luxtax. We have plenty of luxtax breathing room thanks to dumping Holiday, and we have most of our MLE to spend, so there are no constraints on signing him. Maybe he'll want to play here, where there are minutes available at guard to showcase himself.

He probably doesn't fit into Terd's "no jerks" policy though - a guy that was suspended for two years for drug abuse.

Yes. But if that's a massive waste of an asset. If the plan was to turn him into cap space, we surely could have traded him at the deadline for expiring contracts AND picks.

I wonder if I could arrange for a meeting with Ted Leonsis and explain to him the economics of paying a player more than he's worth and the impact that has on the rest of the roster. That loyalty and fifty cents gets you a cup of coffee. I don't feel like he gets it.

At this point, I'd settle for a S&T with New York where we max him and then trade him for expiring contracts (Kemba, Burks, Noel) plus Quickly and their 2022 pick. Maybe we convince them to throw in one of those future 1sts from Dallas too.

I really just don't want Beal on the team anymore. I think it's bad for the development of the young guys. As long as this team is considered "Beal's team" the other guys won't have a stake and the coach won't be able to mold a new identity for the team. It's not that I hate Beal or anything. I just don't think it works to have a 29-year-old, 10-year-vet, play alongside a team of rookie contract guys - particularly when the 10-year-vet is on a max contract but isn't even a top 25 player in the league. Beal's time here has run it's course. It's time to turn the page.

What we did not do is acquire a good player, nor someone who is going to suddenly become good -- Porzingis ain't either of those things.

So... in a sense we also made a bet that neither Bertans nor Dinwiddie would return to form. This aspect of the move shouldn't be overlooked, because if both of them do, then it will turn out to have been a bad trade, & if either of them does, it'll start looking more or less neutral.

& that's why we should at least try to move Porzingis this off season.

I think Porzingis is overpaid relative to his production, but I don't think it's fair to say that he is not good....

Fair enough.

In truth, I think that's almost always what I really mean when I say a guy isn't good. That he's "overpaid relative to his production." The more guys like that you have, the worse your team is.

Of course, when you trade a guy like that, you don't usually get a player back who is paid less than he's worth! So, there's no guarantee that trading him solves any problems. :)

&, in fact, KP's last two years have been his best years in the league. In that sense, maybe I should have suggested that we pay close attention to whether he is improving before deciding whether to trade him.

nate33 wrote:...Over the past 3 years, he has averaged 23.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.0 blocks per 36 on a TS% of .563. But he posts that slightly above league average TS% while playing out on the perimeter, which opens up opportunities for others to take higher percentage shots around the rim....

That TS% is slightly above league average -- but it's below average for a big, a 4 or a 5.

nate33 wrote:...He's essentially playing almost exactly like Bryant this season in terms of shooting efficiency and shot profile, only he is doing so on much higher volume, with better rebounding and much better defense....

Yes, but... just off an injury, Bryant hasn't played well yet.

Compare Porzingis's production this year & last (his two best years, as I say -- & that *is* a good sign) with Bryant's in 2019-20, & the picture is quite a bit different! Bryant's numbers were much better than KP's -- & when you factor in what they are paid.... (Let alone 2018-19, when Bryant had a truly great year coming off the bench).

nate33 wrote:...Basically, Porzingis looks like a legit starter to me - solid numbers, albeit not exceptionally efficient, but with good rim protection. Certainly, a mere starter shouldn't be making $33M a year, but it's better than paying $32M a year to two guys who weren't playing starter caliber ball.

nate, the trade was brilliant! No disagreement whatever. Given Dinwiddie's difficult presence & Bertans horrible play, pretty much any return in a trade would have good. But, that's not about Porzingis in particular.

Still, he's young enough that he just might get better....

I'll probably only watch a few games a year if Beal gets the extension. I don't think Brad and Porzingis are a great fit, and Zingis will miss half the season each year anyway. Slow walked mediocrity until Beal either gets bored and requests a trade or 5 years of .500 ball goes by and we can finally reset.

EVANS was one of several NBA players who in 2011 visited the Hawaiian isles during the lockout. As you may or not know, in 2014, I lost custody of my kids and visitation privileges (after being falsely accused of felony terroristic threatening--quite an otdeal!!). It was just before my life changed for the precipitatiously worse that.... MEN .....like Tyreke Evans and Javale Mcgee set great examples and GAVE BACK to youth.

They are truly heroes and this is coming from an Air Force veteran.

Java let McGee went out of his way (farther into a crowd, alone as other players were boarding the charter bus out) to sign autographs for military dependents at Schofield Barracks, Fort Shafter, and other various military installations on Oahu.

My son KENDALL loves Javale MCGee from then as an 11-year old.

Me? I remember DCZ and I got into a huge argument when Tyreke Evans was drafted out of Memphis State. I THINK WE BOTH HAVE BEEN PROVED RIGHT.

About that USO tour: TyrekeEvans, Derek Rose, both Brook and Robin Lopez also participated as did Mike Miller.

You might be right but I don't think you can possibly be disappointed if you think that way because I think they're gonna be really good. I can see Bradley having 50 point games before this seasons over Of course <<<> Chris tapps porzingas >>>>>is healthy and they decide to go for it

That's really awesome! Credit to those guys!

And when I said "no jerks" applies to Evans, I didn't mean that I actually think he is a jerk. I don't know the man. I'm just assuming that Ted would categorize anyone a "jerk" if he got suspended by the league.

Assuming the Lakers tear it apart after this season and Zinger finishes well for the Wiz, here's a very unlikely to happen Lakers trade: Porzingis, Rui, and Kispert for Anthony Davis (soon to be 29). We actually save money. Use the MLE on Tyus Jones. Draft Keegan Murray. I know it's not going to happen - just a fantasy offseason.

How about Delon Wright? Another big PG, decent shooter from 3, and he does defend.

Beal was everybody's coveted teammate when he was able to play off the ball, didn't need touches to be useful, hit outside shots, and did all the little things. The scoring title Beal looked like the usual 'Best Player on a Losing Team' type of stat inflation to me. I get the feeling the market for teams bidding for him will be meagre. This is one of the times when I would hope Tommy would hold to one of his favorite cornball folksy sayings: "It's show 'Business' not show 'Friends'".

Terrific player. But, he's about to turn 30. We are a rebuilding team. Ready for a new generation of Wizards. All Wright would do is slow down the rebuild.

Tyus Jones 27 points (11-17 shooting) 9 Ast-2 TO in a spot start for the Grizzlies. Are we sure he's going to be available for the MLE?

Unfortunately, this draft doesn’t have a lot of PGs like 2020 did.

I do like Tyus Jones too. He’s 4-5 years younger.

I know Dat2U was screaming for Delon in 2019.

At 10 min, Troy talks about his sources at F Street saying Montrezl being the cancer in the locker room that derailed the season. He never has gotten paid and thought the numbers he put up in the 1st 15 games was gonna continue.

Exactly what I was thinking. Ja being out was his chance to beast, and he took it. His price is going up.

He'd be perfect for a team like Milwaukee - who recently lost Connaughton and Hill to injury and traded DDV.
