You should enjoy this team, jim. They won by 75 points last night.

Have you ever heard of a team having 8 players in double figures in the same game? They came one point short of nine players in double figures! This is the best UMCP Women's Team ever, IMO.

I posted the link that contains an amazing box score and some video highlights of the Lady Terps.

If Gary Crowton hasn't signed his contract why would UM still offer him 500k annual after this past season? Seems Crowton wants an open door and I don't blame him. He looked bad this year and I don't know if they'll improve. Looks beneficial both ways if they end the arrangement.

Lady Terps WAY better than GMU. No contest. GMU hit a couple 3s to start the
game for an early lead. It didn't last long at all. Very poorly reffed game.

Crowton is out. Glad to see that. They brought him in to work with an established offense. Obviously that wasn't the case and the realization is they need to build. Mike Locksley has controversy but he's hirable and effective. That's who I would bring in. He's the type that will help kids buy into what Edsall's doing.

Defensive lineman Cody Blue says he's leaving Maryland

The Baltimore Sun called Blue's family home to inquire about Internet rumors that he was leaving. His mother referred the call to the player, who said Tuesday night that "I had a talk with [athletic director] Kevin Anderson and Coach Edsall. I decided not to come back next year. It's best for me to try my last two years at another university."

Blue did not want to say more about his departure, at least until the school issues a public statement. He said his leaving amounted to "nothing against Maryland and the coaches at all." He said he was in the process of getting his transcripts released.

Blue arrived at Maryland in 2009 and redshirted his first year. He said he'll have two more seasons of eligibility

Another 4-Star recruit transferring... :(

Receiver Adrian Coxson is the latest Terp to leave program

The City alum announced Wednesday on Twitter that he is leaving Maryland after one season.

"Sorry #TerpNation. Much love tho...," Coxson tweeted.

The 6-1, 210-pound redshirt freshman receiver who started his career at Florida confirmed his departure in an interview with The Baltimore Sun this afternoon, saying he had received his release from his scholarship commitment earlier in the day.

"I just felt like the program was not the best place for me to be at this time," Coxson said.

Reports: Maryland Hires Local Super-Recruiter Mike Locksley as Offensive Coordinator

It's getting around, so we'll go with our friends at InsideMDSports. Long story short: sources are indicating that Mike Locksley is about to get hired at Maryland as the offensive coordinator to replace Gary Crowton.

This is right in the middle of the basketball game, so that's obviously the focus right now and we'll expand more on it later. Locksley was my ideal hire, and you can read more about him in my earlier post on the offensive coordinator situation.

For now, know that he's probably a "good-enough" offensive coordinator in the Xs-and-Os scenario. Not much in his history indicates that he'll be a cure-all for Maryland's offensive woes, though I do think he'll be as good as Crowton and quite possibly better. He'll likely introduce a pro-style offense, which should be a better fit for the Terrapins' personnel, so if nothing else he'll hold onto the ball more.

The real story, though, is the recruiting impact. In short, Locksley is a DC-area super-recruiter. He's like football's Dalonte Hill. He's not only one of the nation's elite recruiters, he's hands-down the best in this area. He got Arrelious Benn out to Illinois, for Juan's sake.

He will have a massive impact in recruiting. Massive. Mostly in the 2013 class, but also in the 2012 short-term. His addition should at least give Maryland a fighting chance at the elite locals, particularly Eddie Goldman but also Stefon Diggs and potentially Ronald Darby as well.

More later, including on his very public faults (punching an assistant, anyone?).

Seriously music to my ears. Had to watch the UM FIU game and the team might go to the dance this year. In a couple of weeks the full teams going to be together and I'm seeing some good signs. Now back to Locksley. This is a great move for several reasons. Locksley has a lot of redemption he's going to want to put towards his name. Edsall has the type of structure that's going to maximize the talent that's brought in. I think it's a perfect match.

I'm hearing some focus is going towards Larry Johnson Sr.. Noah Spence probably comes to UM if Johnson is hired. To be fair Edsall never got to bring in the DC he wanted and Johnson is an excellent choice if he's serious about building the program. I like a lot of what Edsall done as far as creating a winning foundation. He needs talent to attract fans and then needs the talent to buy in so they can produce.

If this is handled correctly I think a lot of this heat will cool down. Edsall might want to consult someone on PR because I don't think he was ready for a big media market. It really doesn't matter if you win but you don't want a bunch of negativity running around when you're trying to build. People use that to recruit against programs.

I agree the Terps might go to the NCAAs, MF23.

They have a very thin roster, but Maryland basketball is very well coached by Mark Turgeon. The ACC is having a down year outside of UNC. Duke even is beatable. Maryland has enough to do pretty well in conference. They are more than just a one-man team, with Terrell Stoglin carrying them. I like the athleticism of Pankey. With him and Nick Faust, the Terps have a pair of promising freshmen. When Pe'Shon Howard returns, a lot less pressure will be on Faust, Stoglin, and Sean Mosley. I believe Alex Lin will help a lot up front, too.

I am very encouraged that the Terps are winning close games with not that much talent.

PG and C are the two most important positions in college basketball, so it'll be real interesting to see if Howard and Len can integrate themselves into the team quickly. If they don't, MD is going to be brutalized in the ACC. It's nice to see Pankey making contributions and Mosley showing some signs, but Padgett - as well as Mosley - need to be more consistent. And Faust should improve once he doesn't have to worry about any PG duties. Parker could be the wildcard if Edsall can get through to him - he's got to be a frustrating player to coach - but he might be the best athlete on the team.

I'm an Edsall believer. He's a bit different than Gary - a real stickler for fundamentals,

Edit - Ug, did I really sat Edsall? I meant Turgeon. Getting them mixed up is a huge insult to Turgeon, and I apologize to him.

I understand y'all drink the kool aid but this team is going to get murdered in conference play. They barely beat Mount St. Mary's and FIU, at home. They will be lucky to win 5 conference games this year.

Maybe they win less than 5 games - I can't really evaluate how good or bad they'll be until I see how well and how quickly Howard and Len integrate themselves in the lineup.

They also got CRUSHED by Iona

It is the belief in good coaching koolaid I am drinking, Raf. Also, the rest of the ACC outside of UNC, Duke, Virginia, and maybe NC State really is suck (channeling diderotn).

They might only win 6 or so conference games, but I have a feeling they will continue to improve all season. The Terps coach is a stickler for defense, rebounding, and team play where they are all accountable. He plays all his young players. They are about to get a huge boost when their playmaker, Howard returns. The single biggest problem they have had is turnovers. That will get better. The main reason I say I think Maryland will improve is that I think Faust will shoot it better and turn it over less as the season goes on. Add a seven footer who joins the team in a couple weeks, and I think by March the Terps will be able to win on any night in ACC Tournament play.

I won't be surprised if this team overachieves, Raf. They were up on Illinois and they beat Notre Dame. They have athletes but are just young. Above all, Turgeon is a very good coach. I like the way the guy is very honest and also very positive and encouraging at the same time.

I don't know about the NCAA tourney this year, unless Len performs miles above what is expected of him (personally, I think he'll be around the level of Weijs of this year) and Pe' can get into game-shape fairly quickly. Faust also has to settle down a bit and find his comfort zone in the college game. Without these things happening, I don't see them as a tourney team.

With that said, I really love Turgeon. He's going to be a great coach for us, this guy has the "it" factor imo. He says the right things (while being honest about it) and it looks like he knows how to push his player's buttons very well (the two guys he's sat this year so far have been Stoglin and Pankey, and they have both responded VERY well from their benchings).

Really excited for the future. This year is a throw-away year for basketball for me personally, I just want to see our young players grow up and continue to improve throughout the year.

Actually, aside from the Iona game, turnovers haven't been so bad. It's the lack of ball movement - and lack of assists that have been a big problem - they have one of the lowest assist rates in the nation. That's because their offense often consists of just Stoglin touching the ball. When P comes back, they might end up with more turnovers because they're finally going to be moving the ball - and they'll definitely have more assists.

Larry Brown visited the Terps practice and gives a lot of praise to Turgeon.

You get a close look at Mark Turgeon coaching, as well as Alex Len scrimmaging.
