Not the greatest looker but looks good enough and is what I would call GIFTED AND TALENTED where it counts.

I can't say what I would have in the past, with my personal changes and signature, Pine. :)

go'stags wrote:YES!! I haven't posted much this year, as I have been busy, but I really, really like Shelvin Mack. Tough, hard nosed defender, with some actual game. Good shooter, even off the dribble, and is smart as hell. Butler was one of the smartest college teams I'v seen in a long time, and he was the starting PG. A winner. I had been hoping for a while he would be our pick, and kind of had a feeling he would be selected. Great pick IMO.

Good enough for me. His stats aren't real good, but he's as much a winner as anyone in college basketball. And he looks like a running back - sorta like Vinnie "Microwave" Johnson from the old Pistons. His strength and leaping ability can help make up for some of his lack of height, and he can team with Wall. I see him as an emergency PG and more of a 2 than anything else. Very good guy to have on the roster - though I wouldn't project him ever being a regular rotation player.

I loved what I read about him last night. I I checked out the little scouting reports thing they tossed up on SI yesterday, and there was a small write up on Mack from one of the scouts they interviewed:

"Shelvin Mack, 6-3 junior guard, Butler. I'm a big fan. I just think he's steady. He's a point guard who can get you into the offense and can play off superstars. The team went to back-to-back championship games and he had a lot to do with it. Defensively, he knows how to play right now. He worked out very well for us. He's a career No. 2 point guard, but those guys have value. You have to have a really good backup point guard in this league. He has no B.S. in his game, and if you have B.S. in your game, he's going to take it away and make you wish you didn't see him today.

One of my fav things about this is I really feel like we've completed the backcourt. Wall, Mack, Crawford, Young. I think we're set. We've got youth and size and athleticism and now some toughness in the frontcourt too, so there's hope. For a draft bereft of talent we landed the second highest upside size guy, the best defensive player, and the most successful point guard in the draft. And you have to love what they say, and what we saw with Mack. He was a fighter, he was smart, and when he completed arsed up against Pitt with the stupid foul, look at his face (its probably on youtube), he's pretty much the only guy in the gym that believed Butler wouldn't lose, and he did it himself, getting in the head of the guy who was set to win the game for Pitt. I love Butler, he was at the bottom of the list of guys i wanted at 34, but he was still on the list, only Bertans, Honeycutt, and Malcolm Lee were above him on my list, but only Honeycutt strikes me as a genuine lock to be a better player than Mack, and Mack fits are team needs to a tee, we could really use his defensive acumen, attitude, positiviity and dedication.

As others have said, this draft not only injected talent, it injected winners, with upside, and every single one of these guys is a hard worker. It is intriguing, as others have said our last seven draftees have all been players that are winners, workers, and effort guys with great attitudes across the board. Really excited. I have a feeling Blatche will either get it (granted we've all said this for three years), or be gone by the trade deadline in 2013.

Was that directed at Vesely or JaVale?

I don't want to say this isn't a legit concern, scratch that,
I don't think it's legit and the reason is that Vesely seems
as though he is probably a smarter, less highlight seeking
player than JM. He's been an important player on a winning
team in a high level league who's been well scouted over a
long period of time.

Time will tell. There definitely are concerns about Vesely.

Alot of players I liked still on the board at 34... Honeycutt, Parsons, Tyler, Harrellson (really wanted to add another center), Thompkins. But Mack is a solid pick. Before the draft I considered Nolan Smith and Ben Hansbrough, and Mack has alot of the qualities I liked in them.

Vesely I just don't know enough to judge. Supposedly he plays hard, can run and dunk, and defend. The questions are: Can he shoot? Can he rebound/box out? Does he have any SF skills? Can he pass? Will he get stronger?

I LOVE the Singleton pick! I considered him at 6! I couldn't believe he was still there, then I WAS SURE WE WERE GONNA PASS ON HIM (at the time being still pissed about the #6 pick). He is exactly what we need!

Liverbird wrote:We're so damn fickle on this board - boarderline schizophrenic. Look back at the draft threads over the past few months and the majority of folks would have been happy with Chris Singleton @18 and Nolan Smith @34. Outside of Vesley (who's impact is still unknown) I thought we did very well. The philosophy entering the draft was to start with intelligent, competitive, mature players and we did exactly that. I'm still undecided about Vesely as I'm unfamilar with his game, but we dramatically improved the culture of the team with this draft. Blatche and McGee better wake up else they'll miss this bus.

This draft pretty much comes down to how good is Vesely, liverbird.

If Ernie is right, this was a GREAT draft.

I think the consensus of us think the guy will be good but not great.

But Singleton and Williams would be a pretty

I think that would have been the dumb LaSooz pick.

Jordan Williams is garbage. I'm a UMD fan and I don't want him. He should have stayed in school, he will do nothing in the NBA.

Center: McGee starts, backed by Seraphin, NDiaye, and Blatche.

PF: Blatche, backed by Vesely and Booker. Lewis and Singleton can both go here too if needed.

SF: Singleton starts I think. Lewis may hold on to it if healthy or become a 6th man. Vesely and Young can also go here at times. I'd like to bring back Evans also.

SG: Young, backed by Crawford. Evans(?) and Jeffers, and possibly Mack.

PG: Wall, Crawford, Mack.

Don't forget John Wall with his dance. The girls like him. Nick's goofy but IMO seems like a quiet pretty boy type. If nothing else, the Wizards have added much swagger to the team.

You have guys who'll beat all hell out of somebody in Seraphin and Booker. Crawford also looks like he'd fight over an insult or 10 bucks owed to him.

You also have the NBA slam dunk champion and a guy with some alter ego "Pierre".

I do like this team's makeup. Vesely has swag. Singleton and Mack are throw back players. They both look like the 70s and 80s players who'd try and fight guys. Wiz have both lovers and fighters on this team.

Lots of exciting players and a team young kids will like.

If anything, we will be exciting as hell to watch. We won't win more than 30-35 games but we'll be one of the most fun teams to watch. Athletes up and down the roster and a real maestro in Wall that will run the show.
