Kelly Oubre is learning to fly. (Just happened to be listening to youtube vids in the background).

If Oubre keeps splashing threes and playing D like today he needs minutes. He looked like our best defender out there. He's basically looking like a prettier Ariza more than a Butler-lite.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

If they keep racking up Ls the 2017 pick gets a lot more valuable. Maybe they can ultimately just be able to trade Beal + 2017 unprotected pick for Cousins and keep everyone else.

Wall/Sato
Oubre/McClellan
Porter/Oubre
Morris/Nicholson
Cousins/Mahinmi

I wouldn't give them both with the way Brad is playing right now. That or the pick needs to be lottery protected.

fact remains that the boggie deal does nothing for our bench. which is the reason why we are losing games. Our starting 5 is pretty good and can actually hang with some of the best in the league, but our bench is a different story all together. unfortunately sato, while solid every where else, is not as offensively ready as i had thought. Smith is horrid, thornton is thornton, and kelly is the only inconsistant bright spot on this bench and Mahinmi is hurt..... Trade mahinmi to center desperate team for a few bench guys and trade a 2018 or 2019 pick for a young big. that might be the best way to try to save the season with out killing the future.

Agree about addressing the bench, but I think it's too early to give up on Mahinmi.

Looks like House broke his wrist and is out 6 weeks. This should be a good excuse to bring up a D-leaguer. There has to be a big better than Smith, or a PG or combo guard better than Burke. There must be.

Three way deal.

WAS out: Wall, Mahinmi, Burke, Smith, Oubre
WAS in: Cauley-Stein, Collison, Deng, Temple, Clarkson

SAC out: Cauley-Stein, Temple, Collison, Gay
SAC in: Wall, Mahinmi, Burke

LAL out: Clarkson, Deng
LAL in: Gay, Smith, Oubre

Washington adds a prospect in WCS and builds around Porter and Beal. Deng's deal is terrible, but in a swap for Mahinmi he might actually be a better fit in Washington spelling Porter and backing up Morris.

Collision is more than serviceable and Clarkson is the x-man playing both guard positions either as starter at PG or coming for the bench backing up both Beal and Collison.

Sacramento takes another shot at making it work with Wall, while adding salary cap flexibility.

Lakers give up Clarkson to shed Dengs deal and gain a prospect, as well as a more productive option at Small Forward to keep things interesting for this season.

Honestly? I think that'd be a nightmare. Even with his faults, Wall is the franchise player. You have to get a great player or at least a top prospect in a trade for him. WCS and Clarkson aren't enough. And Oubre has roughly the same upside as both of them. Temple's a great guy but no more than a 3rd quard, imo. Collison's a good journeyman - key word being journeyman.

The deal works without Oubre too, but my the point of this trade is basically this.

Washington is stuck without a clear path to get better anytime soon. Is Wall good enough to make up for all of the rosters deficiencies?

I think not, and dealing him for depth and prospects to me seems like the best way to maximize him as an asset.

Washington isn't going to get value for Wall, he's not good enough to net another superstar, and Washington doesn't have the assets to add a difference maker.

This is horrible. We give up Wall and Oubre, and the only building block we get back is Cauley-Stein. The rest of those players are serviceable, but serviceable is exactly what you don't want if you're going into a full rebuild. You want high risk high reward players with upside.

Wall is one tier behind the group of legit superstars. He's 3-time All Star in his prime and easily considered a top 20 player by most of the league. He has flaws, but overall, he has a good attitude and is highly competitive. If we're giving up Wall, we better get back some high first round picks. I wouldn't even entertain this deal unless Oubre was dropped out and Sacramento was coughing up their unprotected picks in 2017 and 2019. Even then, I still don't like it.

Yeah, I probably would. I'm assuming the filler would be Mahinmi and Smith. Make that deal, and then trade Gortat for wing depth. Would the Celtics give up Avery Bradley and Tyler Zeller for Gortat and Burke (filler)?

PG Wall/Sato
SG Beal/Bradley
SF Porter/Oubre
PF Morris/Nicholson
C Cousins/Zeller

With that talent, it's tough to see how those 3 unprotected picks would be all that high.

You would need one heck of a motivator as coach because everyone save Porter and Bradley are prone to bouts of laziness or lack of discipline, but the talent is there. Down the road, it would be nice to trade Nicholson for a wily veteran to help lead and set an example, maybe a guy like Taj Gibson or Amir Johnson?

Don't think Bradley is included in any deal unless its for a superstar. His defense is just too important.

There was a Celtics fan that came here a while back and was pretty interesting in acquiring Gortat. I can't remember what he offered, but I think it might have included Bradley.

I'm open-minded to any other Gortat trade that would bring us back a good wing (and hopefully a half-decent backup center), but there aren't many teams in need of a veteran center.

Bradley has become an all-star level player. Somehow, he's averaging 7.8 rebounds a game - after averaging 2.9 last season. Last season I suggested trading Beal for Bradley and Sullinger - but never considered he'd be rebounding like he has.

I dug it up. It didn't involve Bradley. He was interested in trading Zeller plus a pick for Gortat though. The Brooklyn pick was too high, and the default Celtics pick is too low. But I would be interested in their unprotected Memphis pick in 2019. By then Conley and Gasol should be declining and the Grizzlies might be a lotto team.

I liked that deal, too. That pick could be valuable in a future trade.

Im not a fan of trading Gortat during the season with Mahinmi working his way back. Though I would be open to the above trade of Zeller + pick(s) (I'd look to get the LAC 2019 1st and the Twolves 2017 2nd) if we are going nowhere at the deadline. But we could probably swing that pick in the offseason too.

I'd then look to trade our 2018 1st plus Smith to get a solid rotational piece.
We'd then have that player, our 2017 1st, Minny pick (#35-40), Oubre, Sato, Zeller, and the MLE to round out the bench.

I also believe that the MLE is going to jump from 5M+ to about 7M. That would be enough to get us a Taj Gibson, Patrick Patterson, Darren Collison, DeWayne Dedmon, or CJ Miles type player

Just to be clear, that Gortat trade was a follow-up trade after first acquiring Cousins.

I'm not inclined to trade Gortat either, unless we are so far behind in the standings that the playoffs no longer seem feasible.

Wow, I would expect better from you. You didn't acquire ONE sure-fire starter in that deal. Not one. It's just a collection of guys who ideally would make up your bench. More than $150 million in salaries too; and what's the point of having a bench if you just traded your best player?
