^ I suggested Gentry a few pages ago and was flamed for suggesting a "retread". LOL And I brought him up for the same reason - his experience with high powered offenses (both in GSW and previously in PHX).

I wouldn't say he's #1 on my list (although my list isn't fully formed yet, he could end up there) so I'm not rooting for him to get the job at this point, but Gentry would be a hire that I could support.

6/2006: Oleksiy Pecherov will be "a tougher, more physical version of Dirk"

6/2006: Vladimir Veremeenko will develop into "a Belarusian Barkley"

6/2007: Nick Young will be "a perennial All-Star who will make us old timers forget Dr. J"

6/2011: Jan Vesely will "come into the NBA with a work ethic reminiscent of Bird and Jordan"

Regarding my prediction that the Wizards would become "the NBA's model franchise" under the leadership of Susan O'Malley as GM and Ed Tapscott as head coach--this has not come to fruition, due to a lack of vision on the part of Ted Leonsis.

Ah.. the good ol days. I used to love pumping up young Dray as KG Jr...

Then we had the summer of 7DayDray and hope was in the air. And if you think about it, it was kind of interesting. Dray was actually trying to become the S4 type. He just dribbled to much and never improved enough from range but he would actually take and make some 3s. His combination of size with some handles was promising. To bad his work ethic wasn't there. But once in a while he would go on a tear and dominate.

Dude had potential. He just never grow up and became a professional. That taught me a lot about evaluating young talent. So did McGee. So did Nick.

Now I think some of it is a chicken and the egg thing. Knuckleheads like that can make it if they come to the right situations regarding culture and opportunity, and get mentored well. But the Wizards was pretty much the opposite of that. Specially with Gil here. AJ and CB tried to get the team to be more professional, but Gil was the featured talent here and he was an admitted clown who sadly became more about Gil, attention and money then winning basketball. And its hard to counter that. That too was sad because Gil started off with a ton of promise. Much like Wall. Wall developed properly. Gil went off the reservation.

I like the new direction with players like Wall, Beal and Otto and solid vets is the better design. The stink of how this franchise was has washed away a great deal. People might have forgotten how bad it was. Its tons better now.

At least from here I can envision them being able to attract the top valuable front office and coaching help. I don't think that was the case when Ted took over or when Abe originally fired MJ or EG.

I wouldn't mind a retread. Rick Carlisle and Doc Rivers both won titles as retreads.

We just need someone with some imagination and creativity when it comes to designing an offense. Witless is from the 60s.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

Understandable.

There are other things to focus on right now.

Playoff are right ahead of us and Randy is right in our faces game after game.

But like last year, Randy didn't get canned so here we are... stuck again... cheer for your team to win or cheer for longer term success by them losing.

My hope is we can have both because Ted already knows what he wants. So I guess we may as well cheer for them to win. At least in the first round. I don't think beating TOR would effect what they think they want to do with Randy.

Now if he makes it out of the 2nd and does well in the third round, that might save his ass. But not even sure that is the case.

GSW has a superior FO, 4 of their 5 starters are people Ernie passed on. Having a roster like they have to work with makes coaching a lot easier.

If you haven't ready it yet, you owe yourself to check out this article on the Wizards offense.

http://www.truthaboutit.net/2015/03/syn ... ereof.html

It confirms a lot of the things about Washington's attack that a lot of Wizards fans have collectively taken issue with.

Most glaringly the first open shot mantra, forcing Beal into ball handling duties, and the lack of spacing with Gortat and Nene sharing the court.

The upsetting thing to me is that a lot of those things could be addressed, if Wittman wasn't so damn pigheaded.

More of Gortat/Humphries or Gortat/Pierce to give Wall and Gortat room to operate on the pick and roll, passing up open two's in favor of penetration and more ball movement for spot up threes, and for god's sake tell Beal to stop taking two's and have him shoot more threes instead.

Well 3 of 5 (Curry, Thompson, and Green) that are worth being sad about.

I already dealt with that and not going to bother again. You are just acting being a troll. I guess you have that book market just so you can be a troll.

You know damn well Ves wasn't may pick for the team that year.

But since we are playing this fun game.. How about this..

TGW » Wed Jun 22, 2011 4:22 pm

I don't know how in hell Leonard suddenly jumped over Marcus Morris. I don't get it. Morris ranked as one of the most efficient players in the draft, and yet bums like Leonard and Vesely get to go before him.

Good stuff TGW.

Unlike you, I don't post idiocy like "as I correctly predicted", "now that I have been proven right", etc. ad naseum in every post. I've already admitted I was way off in my assessment of Leonard.

But your incessant need to validate Vesely (and Blatche and Crawford) over the course of 3 years was downright embarrassing and just plan dumb, even after they showed that they were useless junk.

But continue to post your hindsight-laced rants though...I for some strange reason took you off ignore. That was a mistake. Back to the ignore list you go with the other trolls.

idiocy is your corner of the world TGW. Your posts are downright embarrassing and just plan dumb and I never forgot you were were the lowest of trolls and I was never dumb enough to take you off ignore.

Now, children.... We are all here to have fun, so lets not fight. And, in the above stuff, I can't even figure out who said what. Or about what. Or how you can have this tiff if one of you is on the other's Ignore list.

Would a nice warm glass of milk help? How about if I lace it with some bourbon, hmmm? :)

To calm you down I'm going to quote what Jordan Crawford said so long ago: "Can't we all just get along?"

I was scared stiff in '12 that we'd take Harrison Barnes who looked so limited to me that I wasn't sure he'd even be a starter in the league. As it has turned out, he is an extremely effective NBA 3, one of the best young SFs in the league.

Its does help where he landed and how they slotted him in.

I did a post recently showing some similarities with him and Otto but for Otto, his first year he was out injured while Barnes started his first year. Plus TA was really good last year and they were looking for their first playoffs in forever so Wall and Beal could learn from that.

Barnes started. Then Iggy showed up and he mostly came off the bench. Now Barnes is starting with Iggy off the bench.

Otto injured.. PP showed up.. Next year Otto will start.

Not many wanted Barnes for us in that draft. He got beat up pretty good on here. But it looks like he is doing pretty well.

Barnes is solid- but I would still rather have Beal.

It was more of a factual statement. Curry, Barnes, Thompson, & Green were all players Ernie passed-up. I don't know what the numbers are on Barnes and how he ranks amongst SF's.

Beal vs Klay, first three seasons. Keep in mind, Beal is two years younger.
Otto vs. Barnes through two seasons. Barnes played nearly triple the minutes.
Otto vs Barnes in their second seasons.

If you have trouble coming to the conclusion that Beal/Otto are on similar development tracks to Klay/Barnes, do let me know.

This is why, with all the frustration about how this organization has been run, I still maintain that our future is salvageable if the right people are put in charge. We need a smart and aggressive GM and a modern NBA coach who can suit an offense to our strengths. Create space for Wall and Gortat to pick and roll people to death, while also allowing Beal and Otto to slash and cut. It's not rocket science.

Go get Kevin Love and a good coach and this team will win 55 games and contend for the East.

The Klay and Beal development tracks have been discussed. All we can really do is hope it works out, but huge jumps in PER and efficiency on the sort of level Klay has shown don't happen every day, and there were still things that Klay was doing that Beal isn't even in worse seasons.

Still though, yea, I'd be optimistic about a good GM making use of the 16 cap space.

No. It isn't. And thats what so frustrating about Randy.

Wall and Gortat should have been the core of the offense all year. So I understand why Gortat is frustrated. Blame on Randy or Wall or both, but they should have never gotten away from PnR and transition to Gortat. He is not nearly as good in post up. And to do that best, you want an open floor. That mean Gooden, not Nene. And when you get the Hammer going offensively, he gets in a flow and is better defensively. He is just a better player then Nene. More mobile and his offense doesn't stall the offense at all. Actually its the opposite. It quick hitting.

But, at least we still might see it in the playoffs. They have saved PP all year to use him more at the 4 when it counted most. They could have achieved something similar with Gooden while also having PP body for the playoffs.

And an open floor with more motion would have also help Otto. And created more open 3s.

Randy was stuck on the Nene affect of one or two years ago when there was something better right in front of his face.

So that still my burning question. Will we see less Nene and more PP, Gooden, Hump.
