What about a deal to shake things up between 2 struggling teams with restrictive contracts....
Would something like the following be possible?
https://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/7275916
Detroit sends Griffin, Drummond, 1st round 2020.
Washington sends Wall, Bryant, Hachimura.

I believe Hachimura is one of the most untouchable players in the league. He's part of a marketing strategy for the Wiz that only ramps up more with the Olympics this summer.

I can't believe the Ben Simmons talk here. The dude is not cut out to be a Wizard. With his representation he's a trade demand guy waiting to happen.

Simmons is good, but his jumpshot is completely broken. You have to wonder if you can win with a guy like that unless he's playing center.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVIII
There's a lot of talk about the LA Clippers needing one more good defensive big man in order to match up with the Lakers.
Would they be interested in a Mo Harkless for Ian Mahinmi trade?
We do it to get bird rights on Harkless. I think we could probably re-sign him to a one-year deal for something just above the MLE. It's a way of bringing our payroll next season up closer to the luxury-tax threshold, while adding a pretty good defensive forward.

No need to bash Rui to help make your case for the trade. Need to give him a chance before going there...maybe, like Simmons, Rui also hasn't even touched his ceiling.
Oh..and be sure to tell Kawhi that his outstanding midrange jumper is useless. Its Simmons total lack of a midrange jumper that makes this trade an overpay.
You picked a really dumb fight, and I'm ending it here. I'm not playing this game with you. I didn't say anything different from what I've already said before about Rui. And It's beyond absurd to make any comparison whatsoever of Rui to Kawhi. Kawhi is dramatically better at a million things than Rui is. What an idiotic red herring to bring him up. You know what - next time you're thinking about responding to me - don't. Life's too short for me to put up with garbage like that.
No need for anyone to get heated -- & I don't want to see two of my favorite posters claw at each other! Don't you realize you are here to amuse me?
As to the trade itself, I rather think we could get Simmons straight up for Beal, & if so then obviously we wouldn't include any other assets. Even if we did, I wouldn't be willing to trade Beal & Bryant for Simmons & Milton. I do think Shake Milton might well wind up playing a long time in the league, but I don't think he has any significant present value.
As for Rui, drafting him was an error (which has little or nothing to do with whether he'll become a good player), but I wouldn't treat him as more or less a throw in.
Really, though, every discussion of trading for Simmons comes down to the same thing: he's an unorthodox player, totally atypical. Some people can't handle that for whatever reason. Other people look to his productivity, which makes him one of a very small handful of the best players in the league. I can't name a half dozen players I'd rather have than Simmons.

Yeah it's the same reason NO won't trade Zion the market bucks are to good to pass up. Rui is has the potential to unlock an entire nation of fans and revenue bucks for a team.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVIII
Why would I hate Rui Hachimura?
I don't -- he seems a great kid, & I hope he becomes a tremendous NBA player & proves me wrong.
I just think it was a mistake to take him #9 in the 2020 draft.
Hey, you & everyone know that I really like Brandon Clarke, right? But, it would also have been a mistake to take Brandon Clarke #9 in the 2020 draft.
There was enough talent in this draft that trading down would have gotten a more valuable set of assets. Had we traded our #9 to Boston for their #20 & #22, for example, we could have gotten Brandon Clarke & Matisse Thybulle. Just one example.
If I think that Clarke & Thybulle would have been a better haul than Rui, that's altogether different from "PIF hates Rui."
Is it really hard to distinguish between these simple things?

Apologies. Hate is a strong word and I believe you are rooting for him. Just want to know know what set Ruz off like that. I still think the trade is a ridiculous overpay, impatient and short sighted.

I also think you could have gotten rui a few picks later. Drop back pick up a late pick and take rui and a Brandon clark or something like that.

PIF, the way you talk about how the Zards should have traded the #9 pick for two later picks (which I agree with in principle) makes me think you're certain that a trade like that was an option for the Zards. Do you have any evidence of that?

No worries. Everybody gets carried away. I'm no expert on why -- not someone who gets carried away as often as I do!

There is a real strong chance TS did his due diligence and couldn't find a good deal. To be fair. I just didn't see any prospects at 9 that were that different than prospects at 20 which is the reason a trade back would be ideal but also the reason I don't hate taking rui. I think his 3 and D will come along and I think sooner or later he will play more 3 than 4 where his athletic ability and leangthy-ness will help him more on D.

If Rui could really develop a 3 and defend 3s - that would be a terrific outcome.

Re: Official Trade Thread -- Part XXXVIII
I believe the best path for Rui is to develop him as a 3, and hope we can draft a legit 4 that can rebound/block shots.
We've seen with Markieff how much it hurts your team, when your big men can't rebound, especially since the Wiz don't really have good perimeter defenders. If you can't defend, then limit your opponents to fewer attempts, by rebounding. You just can't be awful at both.

Yeah, I can't imagine anyone giving up a 1st for him when he's making that kind of money and with his NBA archetype being virtually extinct.

It would also be great if I won Powerball. Probably not going to happen - but anything's possible.
