On what? Young is not a difference maker. There's no rush to sign him. Right price is far more important.

We need Young now so we can get a higher seeding in the playoffs.

I understand the negotiation game starts out with both sides taking extremes, but 9mil per year is an extreme example of an extreme. It's just stupid, actually.

Hope Nick is ready for a good, old-fashioned Mexican standoff with the Wizards because Ernie sure as hell isn't going anywhere near that price.

So Nick wants 9 Mill a year. That is roughly a 127% raise from his 3,965,857 contract for this year. Does anyone think his improvement over the past years deserves this type of request? Nick is a one dimensional player. Very good (Above avg.) shooter but on the opposite end of the floor his defense does not equal his shooting ability. Last year Nick only had 26 offensive rebounds(11th place) for a player who had 4th most minute on the team. I hope management does not overpay for an above average player.

I hope EG can work something out to keep Nick in Washington. However, I would not let him walk for free. Trade Nick for something that helps build the future.

Of course at the right price.

Did anyone say ... at all costs ?

All I said was...

So can they get Nick signed before like tomorrow so he is ready for the next preseason game ?

Time is ticking.

As for a difference maker. Everything Nick does scoring, they have noone else on the team that can do those things. What Nick does, this team lacks. Actually it is more then that. He does things this team desperately lacks.

Nick is a outside shooting machine with a drenching wet stroke that he can catch and shot or do it off the dribble where he creates the separation. And he is a SG man defender.

At this point, I gotta wonder what team his agent is waiting on to make a ridiculous offer. I do know there's no team out there that would come close to giving him 9 mil a year. There are only a few teams with significant cap space, and those teams aren't likely going to have a major interest in him. While anything could happen, Ernie should be in the driver's seat, so I'm no longer sweating the situation.

Nick doesn't fix anything with this team. He's not an impact player. He'd be a good guy to have on the bench or as a 4th option. Sign him to the right price or let him go -- whether he's on the roster will have no effect on the team's prospects this year.

The most I'd pay Young in a long term deal is $6 million a year. Good luck trying to find a sucker, err suitor willing to pony up $9million a year...

If young wants 9 mil a year I would go out and give Aflallo that money. Renounce Youngs rights or sign and trade him for a pick.

Hell, sign and trade Young for a signed Aflallo if you need to (is that even possible?) lol.

AA is the better overall player.

Afflalo ain't worth $9 million per season either.

That's true, but would you agree he is worth closer to 9 mil compared to Young? I didn't mean give him 9 mil, I just mean that if Young is all set on getting 9 per (or close to it), go out and get a guy who is worth more than young and pay him similar to what it would take to keep young.

I would rather have Aflallo at 4 for 35m than young at 4 for 30m.

I wouldn't either guy at either price. :)

For Afflalo, if we're talking 4 years, I'd go maybe as high as $20 million. For Young, I'd stop at $15 million.

In a capped league, you don't get ahead as a rebuilding team by handing out large contracts to guys who aren't difference makers. Save your money for high-quality players. You can overpay for role players later.

And I can already hear folks saying, "But no one will want to come here if the team is terrible."

I have two responses:

1) Nick Young and/or Aaron Afflalo aren't going to turn the Wizards into winners, or even near-winners.

2) No free agent worth a damn is going to accept or reject an offer from the Wizards because they didn't re-sign Nick Young or because they didn't make an offer to Afflalo.

At this point, I'm ready to move on. I like NY alot... he could be an elite scorer, and has charisma and star potential. But I can do without his pouting when he's off, his passive effort on D, and overall mental lapses. I'd be ok going this season with Mason and Evans, at least they defend and shoot the 3, along with Crawford.

@GeryWoelfel A Michael Redd spotting in Indy. It`s believed Pacers, Knicks, Wizards and Celtics are on Redd`s radar.

If he's finally regained his health, then I don't see where throwing a vet's minimum deal at him could go wrong.

Keep in mind, he's only 2 years removed from being a legitimate All-Star caliber player and while he isn't young by any stretch, 32 means he should still have productive years ahead.

If he can stretch the floor and play solid defense (two things he's been known for throughout his career), then he will be about as effective as Young.
