He played in the Princeton where the PG position doesnt exist but I see your point.

Sure, but the pickings at the end of round 2 aren't likely to be very appealing, so I could see them going with the local boy who physically looks the part.

I would expect them to package the picks.

We've got:

C:
N'Diaye '10 (cut)

C/F:
Seraphin '10

SF/PF:
Booker '10
Singleton '11
Vesely '11

PG/SG:
Wall '10
Crawford '10
Mack '11

That's 8 guys, 7 still on the roster from the past two drafts. I don't think they plan on adding another 3 next year.

I don't know what you can get for 32/33 and 50-53, but I imagine you can get somewhere in that 18-24 zone (especially since the value of this draft is basically at 8-24, where there are essentially 15-20 guys that would normally go in that 7-14 area). I think the team will find more that's attractive there, than just sitting in the 35-55 zone, and grabbing 2 names. Move up 10+ slots, and try your luck. Perhaps add a player like Mack or Crawford to boost how high we can move up.

I really like looking at this:

Forwards (and a Center):

1. Terrence Jones

2. Q. Miller

3. P. Young

4. Jeff Tayler

5. Royce White

Hon. Mentions :
Tony Mitchell, Draymond Green

Guard:

1. T. Ross
2. D. Waiters
3. D. Lamb
4. T. Wroten
5. M. Teague

I just think these 10 guys (and 2 honorables) are much much much more attractive than keeping the Dallas pick and/or keeping a player we might be able to package, although if we added, a player, I'd expect to get high enough to add guys like Lillard, Henson, J. Lamb, and T. Zeller (whomever falls among them), basically getting boosted to the 10-15 zone).

Nah, that's too high. I think it's more likely that we move up to about the 22-27 zone, and part of that is because our #33 pick has more value than the picks in the late 20's because the contract isn't guaranteed. Let's face it. That #52 pick is pretty close to worthless.

Yeah, im just dreaming Nate. At the end of the day, I just want a pick in that 10-20 zone badly. I wonder if a player added to the deal could boost it a few slots? 21-25 still has value though, names like:
Ross, Waiters, Taylor, White, D. Lamb, P. Young could be available there.

Oh, I'd definitely look to move up. We don't need 3 more rookies this year. 2 is plenty. I'd package 33 + 52 to move up as high as possible, even if it's only 27. Somebody is bound to slip that far.

I'd be inclined to stay where we are with the 1st 2nd rounder - and take either Thompson or Crowder. And I'd have no problem adding 3 rookies. I like cheap labor. I'd love to add a late 1st if Jenkins or Doron Lamb is available. I see nbadraft.net has Teague as the 28th pick. I know he wouldn't fit a need, but I'd try to get him simply because the value would be too good to pass up - he's easily the most talented PG I've seen this season - including Marshall of UNC - and if he develops his jumper, he could play with Wall.

I like several of those players on your list Consiglieri. Can I just call you "Tom"?

What are your thoughts on Crowder? I cannot figure out why he's considered a 2nd round pick. He was extremely efficient this year (126 ortg) on a fairly high usage (16.4 possessions per 40 minutes). His athleticism looks fine: .606 2pt%, 10.2 reb40, 3 steals per 40, more than a block per 40, low turnover, and an excellent assist to turnover ratio (1.6 ast per tov). Plus he shot 35% on 170 3pt attempts. And he did all that against good competition -- Marquette were 27th in strength of schedule this season.

What am I missing on Crowder?

+1 I posted a day or two ago comparing his production against MKG, and he was slightly better at everything. Even given that he's a senior, that's gotta be worth a late first. Plus, somebody from Marquette ends up being better than we thought in almost every draft.
Making extreme statements like "only" sounds like there are "no" Jokics in this draft? Jokic is an engine that was drafted in the 2nd round. Always a chance to see diamond dropped by sloppy burgular after a theft.

He looks different. Isn't that enough? He's not your standard issue sized 3 - he's probably a hair over 6'6 and near 240. His size kinda reminds me of Ron Artest's. And the Faried-like hair...

I've heard some stories about his competitiveness - His coach said Crowder makes every drill in practice a contest. He wants to win every single drill, and he challenges all of his teammates to do the same. Every little thing every day in practice - he wants to win it. And I watched some Marquette games this season - every player on that team played HARD.

I like cheap labor too. But there are only so many slots on the team. Right now, the following players are under contract next year:

1. Nene
2. Blatche?
3. Wall
4. Seraphin
5. Booker
6. Crawford
7. Vesely
8. Singleton
9. Mack
10. 1st round pick
11. 2nd round pick
12. 2nd round pick

So outside of Nene and Blatche, our entire roster would be guys with 2 or fewer years of experience. Do we really want both of those 2nd rounders? Or should we add one decent veteran plus another 1 or 2 minimum salary vets like Roger Mason.

What's the roster limit? Isn't it 15?

Btw, I don't expect Blatche to be on it.

Here's another very interesting comparison:

Code: Select all

PER40   Mystery Crowder
efg     .498    .568
2p%     .496    .602
3p%     .337    .345
FT%     .706    .735
eOrtg   112     126
Reb     11.0    10.2
Ast     2.4     2.5
Stl     1.7     3.1
Blk     0.9     1.2
Tov     2.4     1.5
Pts     24.4    21.3

"Mystery" played in the Big East. He was a freshman while Crowder is a senior. But, where does "Mystery" go in this draft?

+2

looking at DX makes me seriously question why he shouldn't be rated a whole lot
higher than he currently is.

If we end up with Beal instead of MKG (thinking optimistically that it won't
be someone else we really don't want that badly), Crowder or Green would
be nice pickups to challenge for minutes at the 3. Either might be around
for our 2nd pick.

Moe Harkless? (Incorrect)

He's better than Barnes and might be a guy who falls all the way to round two, hopefully.

He and Tony Mitchell Jr. (N Tex) are likely to be real good in the future, but they aren't getting much pub.

I think Ed Wieland mentioned them and also Gorgui Dieng as guys who project well going to the NBA.

Nivek, run the same comparison on Anthony Roberson, if you have time.

Nate nailed it. "Mystery" in this case is Carmelo. He'd rank 4th in my statistical production mumbo-jumbo. I'm slowly adding in college numbers for current NBA players to see how things mix together. If Kevin Durant was in this draft, he'd be #1 according to my numbers -- even better than Davis.

CCJ: I'll run Roberson tomorrow. He's further down my statistical mumbo-jumbo list. Just glancing at the numbers, his rebounding looks great, but his 2pt% is low for a PF.
