Right, right. Because concentration camps do so much good for so many people

And by "programs that only help a small portion of people" you mean medicare? Wow. WOW.

MediCAID and food stamps. Not heartless or irrational to have more checks to ensure those getting said benefits are only those truly in need. Able bodied individuals should in fact work and pay their own way.

Wait a second ... your response is "nono not MedicARE, its MedicAID that I want stripped away from me and me parents and my kids to discourage imaginary illegals, because I AM THAT GULLIBLE"

you are a piece of work

Controversial but I agree that food stamps is basically a big scam to provide subsidies to farmers, it is very ineffective, you should just give poor people cash. Thanks for paying the price of getting rid of that, Republicans, and when we take over the means of production we'll be sure to reallocate the funds from that and defunding ICE to hand out cash to the people you hate the most

Also if I recall correctly da1 is from a large immigrant community. None of your Indian extended family has ever overstayed their visa? Or is it only Spanish speaking fruit vendors and construction workers who should be sent to swamps and concentration camps.

Because they’ve already moved on to Haitians and whoever else. With a budget that swollen they will start to look for any excuse to lock people up. Without due process all it takes is some disgruntled neighbor to call up and falsely accuse you. Claim you’re secretly Muslim and therefore probably a terrorist. Karma is a bitch.

Come on Doc, you are one of the few I feel like we can have a discussion if we're on completely opposite sides but still have it be respectful. I dont side at all with those who overstayed their visas, the law is the law and there shouldn't be some arbitrary line or code on who gets to break it and who doesnt

Not sure why the concept of immigrants and minorities were even brought up in any post I referenced. I said medicaid and food stamps allotments are being abused because the broken system si allowing it to, and that absolutely includes born & raised Americans, whether white, black, or whatever.

The justifications used to create an army of
violent armed masked and largely unaccountable
agents to disappear people mostly just trying to live were
more imagined than real. Fear is a powerful
weapon when you have propaganda forces with
massive amounts of money to spend. The crime
statistics bear this out. We apparently prefer to
be cruel than to be humane.

People like Stephen Miller and Tom Hohman want
everyone to live in the hell they imagine themselves
to live in.

The whole reason immigrants and minorities were
raised is because they are easily targeted to be
scapegoats. The immigration system itself is
arbitrary.

Sometimes the things we think we know are our
biggest impediments to learning.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_fraud

Official figures of the prevalence of welfare fraud based on government investigation tend to be low – a few percent of the total amount of welfare spending. Statistical research indicates that the vast majority of fraud is committed by businesses serving the recipients of government benefits.[5] Welfare or benefits fraud committed by recipients is usually of very modest sums, and is committed by people who struggle with poverty; but once started it often continues after reaching financial stability

The concept of immigration and minorities was brought up when you talked about Medicaid because the Republicans are (falsely) claiming that all kinds of illegal immigrants are receiving Medicaid benefits. That's one of their justifications for attacking Medicaid.

I'm sure you know this, so I imagine you are just playing dumb for the sake of your argument.

The idea that people who don't jump through a series of heavily controlled, outdated, and arbitrary rules don't "deserve" to be in this Country is one of the most insidious constructs that right wing governments have perpetrated on humanity, not just the US.

This idea that "open borders" means that we would "no longer have a country" or that it "opens us up to invasions" is fear mongering, plain and simple. Invading armies, drug smugglers, and human traffickers don't use ports of entry. Genghis Khan didn't send his hordes through visa offices when he conquered 20% of Earth's entire land mass.

And the entire framing is backwards. Currently the system is that nobody should be allowed into the country, but for a few exceptions: money, extraordinary job skill, family, asylum, refugee (the last two have been effectively eliminated). The system should be that anyone who wants to come should be allowed, but for a few exceptions: terrorism, crime, espionage, etc.

And practically, we intuitively want an open border policy because of (a) how deeply unpopular Trump's targeting of migrant workers are; (b) how eagerly businesses employ undocumented workers; and (c) the talking points of why we need immigration reform focuses on the exceptions to defaulting to yes.

"they took our jerbs" has been skewered by satire by GENERATIONS of comedians at this point, and the evidence simply does not bear out that immigrants are taking American jobs or lead to unemployment.

and as always, "they took our jerbs" is not born out of immigrant hate, but rather an unrealized frustration at the wealth disparity in this country caused by capitalism, and the capitalists use xenophobia to redirect that frustration away from them, when really, people are worried about jobs because the billionaires are continually and feverishly coming up with ways to stomp down labor costs so they can line their pockets.

Illegal immigrants and American citizens are all abusing Medicaid. Im not in the camp of just pointing at one group, there needs to be better reforms across the board

Understand the immigration ‘problem’ was a Trojan horse to allow Trump to create his own private army in ICE because the law enforcement agencies and military were proven to have too many rules and principles.

If you care about the law, rules and regulations, why is it okay for ICE to violate the law and without warrants kidnap people who are taking their case through the Immigration courts?

This illegally created army has been empowered to violate due process. Breaking the most important provision of the Constitution: that these laws apply to everyone.

No investigation. No proof. No defense. Violating illegal search and seizure laws. Miranda rights. The right to defense. Cruel and unusual punishment.

What reason is given for the extra judicial kidnapping and imprisonment. That we are at ‘war’ with the people who are picking fruit for your supermarket or working on construction sites or working dangerous conditions in meat packing plants.

For this it is okay to send them to a swamp. To imprison children. To deny them the ability to defend themselves, locking up and deporting citizens as well. For government officials to joke about providing food benefits to alligators.

Billions are being spent to create this army. It’s not saving any tax dollars. It is creating a new military branch to operate domestically. That has now been empowered to operate 100 miles from any border. Next step: any border state. Guess where all the states that voted against Trump are.

After that it’s any state with an airport. Then all federal highways. With the express directive that ICE does not have to obey the Constitution. They answer only to the Presidents executive orders. Because he has declared War, without the permission of the American people.

You support barbarism and expect civility. You think it is okay to allow babies to be deprived of food because maybe some adult somewhere would get an extra meal they don’t deserve. And you’re Christian. Who would Jesus starve? Who would Jesus allow to die of preventable childhood diseases. The fact that you aren’t sickened by this is depressing. By now. By now I would think that anyone with a scrap of morality would be saying ‘oh no. I made a mistake. I was lied to.’ Instead of showing up to gloat about it.

I am willing to talk with anyone on any side of a topic. But don’t be shocked to hear I am furious with you and deeply disappointed that you still, still, are defending this abuse of our laws and rights and Constitution. Under the guise of Law? Which ones. The ones that apply to the helpless.

Read all of the Bible’s quotes about what you do to the least of the people. The weak. Those in need. Then ask if ICE would be locking up the refugee Jesus for speaking out against the powerful. Frankly you should be ashamed of yourself. You should honestly have a long talk with your spirit and ask: is this really what we are here for? Locking up mothers and children because billionaires want tax cuts? And the fat golden Idol wants an army to use against anyone who tells him ‘no’.

Doc, with all this you forgot a couple of points. First, Trump didn't try to actually solve the root cause of the problem. Namely the push and pull. The push is from countries that are destabilized or have poor economies. Imposing tariffs worsen the latter. Second, the pull - people come because their are jobs. The performative art is for the blue states. The red states, not so much.

I recall reading an excerpt from leaked grand jury testimony, an underage girl (maybe 16) testifying that Trump and Epstein sexually assaulted her, the alleged crime and the testimony itself long predating Trump's involvement in politics. Maybe I haven't seen or heard anything more about this because it was not credible testimony, or because it was a fabricated story. Or maybe, some other reason.

Avoid letting the things you think you know be an impediment to becoming better informed.

back story - I saw a couple of old acquaintances a few days ago. They were ones that were
strident GOP partisans when I last saw them at the same event in July 2024. When we greeted each
other we were just catching up on our own personal happenings and it turned out that the husband
had just recently been treated for basal cell carcinoma (just as I was) with mohs procedure.
I remarked how common it is to develop that cancer which prompted the wife of the couple to
muse as to whether the covid vaccine was the cause of all this skin cancer. I avoided getting
into a discussion about that.

Maybe DA1 can do some of his own research into the levels of fraud and abuse committed by
Medicaid recipients in contrast to the number of peoples whose lives were saved or enhanced.
Maybe he can avoid letting things he is sure he knows interfere with a better grasp of reality.

I think most know Trump is far from one, but sadly he for whatever reason is the appointed leader of the party that aligns much closer with the core values.

MAGA is a White American Nationalist cult whose idol is a man, DJT. MAGA members are xenophobic, racist, and bigoted. They lash out at non-whites because they feel superior. They are fascists much like those Hitler formed in 1920s and 30s Nazi Germany prior to WWII.

daoneandonly, some people profess to be Christian. However, talk is cheap. They talk the talk but how do they live?

Do people "know they are Christians by their love?"

Do they feed the hungry?
Do they clothe the naked?
Do they welcome visitors in their land?

Just because Republicans disapprove of trans and LGBQT+ doesn't make them closer to God than liberal Democats.

Christians follow Christ like Christ loved God. Trump is an abomination and so are all the people who compromise their values to be a part of his crap.
