For a guy who's about to make $3.1 million per year or so, slightly more for the next 4 years, I'd take that kind of production. He's basically the PF version of McGee.

Ed Wood: Only if it's the no-pants variety.

Add in defense all the hustle plays that don't show up in the stat sheet and I'd take that over Blatche's inflated but meaningless numbers any day.

Perry Jones
Quincy Miller
James Mcadoo
Harrison Barnes

But it does mean that these players will be on our list
Anthony Davis
Jared Sullinger
Brad Beal
Austin Rivers

(Obviously only guessing these players are eligible in 2012)

I hardly think that is true. When the high wears off, more people are going to realize Ves is going to take some time and we still don't have anyone to help at center or more shooters.

And in a short year, not so sure we win that much more then they did last year. Dray, McGee, Seraphin and an improved Wall are your biggest factors. These guys are all rookies. They should help but this is not going to happen over night.

im not saying this is a good trade but i seriously dont get the infatuation this board has with barnes

Barnes is not a player I would target. He doesn't fit that model everyone likes that we added this year.

As of right now, I'm glad her wasn't available this year and we didnt get him.

He facilitates offenses with his spacing and knows where his team mates are suppose to be on plays, was the extension of the coach. anyone that watched thornton knows that this skill is not there with alot of small forwards.

He is mismatch with any shooting guard that guards him in the post. HE improve our bbiq offensively and defensively and he is fast. it's going to be very hard for team to cheat on wall in a fast pace game. Vesely mentally knows how to exploit a defense quickly.

Singleton, have we ever had a lockdown perimeter defender before in the last 20 years. Singleton on this roster is groundbreaking. We finally have small forwards that aren't sg's pretending to be small forwards and we have them at the beginning of their careers, not after they have deteriorated with injuries and we are only seeing a shell of who they use to be.

Now we have to build a culture where the number one theme is outsmarting the other team's offense and defense every night. I think we have the total team iq to do it. Flip has got to make sure he is using cutting edge basketball strategy and not keeping elements of his playbook that the majority of league secretly knows is outdated which is why ted may need a private consultant but other than that...Ted and EG have the foundation for that..uh dynasty. A big piece is going to be Seraphin and how quickly we can get his basketball iq and reaction speed to complex defense to at elite level. His strength and ability to play as high iq offensive and defensive bench player eill be the X factor to our domination of our division. the true problem is his language barrier. We need his strength rebounding, and tremendous improvement of his defensive adn offensive awareness of playoof team basketball strategy if we plan on making noise next season. We will see if management can figure out a way to transform a primary french speaking low bbiq to a split second reaction, high bbiq player offensively and defensively.
If we can't do it with him, we need a free agent with exactly seraphin's physical profile--who does understand complex concepts of opposing team's playoff team strategies how we overcome. Very difficult to get to this level with a big that barely knows the language.

Great post.

And thanks for the spacing btw.

:-? What do you mean? Barnes would fit this team perfectly. He's a great shooter, and would give Wall another target in the drive-and-dish. And I hear that he's very mature and has great character, and we need more of those guys on our team. And he supposedly has a great work ethic, and is focusing on improving his ball-handling (his biggest weakness) this offseason. He's a potential #1 pick in next year's draft.

Don't fall for these YouTube highlights, all his highlights are in the open court on a break against weak defenders..[snippity snip]

Dude is tough as nails. To quote his mamasan when he was a toddler, "Jani may be small but he be fierce."

Case in point the infamous "Brawl sans Duval"-- named in memory of the late Alexier Duval who was carted off on a stretcher after Vesely was finished with him.

That was the game where he got the nickname Rocky for his overhand right that turned out the lights on many a player that night.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbq0fSxt ... re=related

Jan lost two teeth reportedly biting off the ear of another player (WARNING: Vesely is bleeding profusely in this vid.)...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyNUaJGa ... r_embedded

There were so many fist fights, broken bones and ejections in this Rollerball like death match that the game had to be finished 3 on 3.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V34n79cI ... re=related

But when it was all said and done the last man standing was none other than our own beloved hero Jan Vesely himself. He finished with 23 points, 16 boards, 5 steals, 13 blocked shots, 1 KO, 2 TKOs, 8 stitches and some dentalwork.

Czech mate.

Man, where do we get a feed to watch these games. Now that is some ****.

Vesely's attitude is my main source of optimism for him as a player. I am so not sold on his skill level being anything close to NBA quality... but working hard and giving a damn is a talent too, and he has that in spades.

Defensively, I like him better the more I watch him. He's thin, but he's relentless. He is almost guaranteed to gain strength and weight - NBA conditioning programs will see to that. If that's all he does, he should be a really good defender at the 3-4, and maybe some 5s. And even while he's getting backed down, you still have to shoot over him.

Offensively... eh. Well, here's hoping.

He does seem to have the heart of a lion. I did like the kid early on but then that faded as I found a different strategy for adding players.

Give him 2-3 years. He will be a good value by then. But expect a ton from this this next year I think is over doing it. Next year he gets spot minutes and brings energy as he learns.

It's not just Barnes. 2012 is the holy grail of drafts, probably the deepest draft since 2003. Why would you want to trade your pick?

totally agree. i referring to barnes tho, rather than the other prospects

i bought into the hype last season and got a change to watch a lot of barnes. hes not really that great of a shooter. he was VERY inconsistant and shot a medirocre 34% from 3... on over 5 attempts per game. draftX has him ranked 74rd in ts% in last years top 100 prospects. he honestly reminds me of a poor mans nick young. he loves that pull up jumper and even has a little fade to it. good 6th man on a playoff team? sure. but if were talking about our team needs, i just dont see how he makes us better.

I think Barnes is a slightly bigger Calbert Cheaney. He'll be a useful NBA player but he won't be a star unless he learns how to take in to the rack and draw fouls.

Speaking of the draft:

Washington Post sportswriter Tracee Hamilton suggests to David Sterm (aka DAT2U) that he invite a celebrity(ies) to host the draft. As I was reading the article, I thought...."that actually would be so cool."

Imagine:

-- Jack Nicholson announcing the Lakers' pick.
-- Billy Crystal announcing the Clippers'.
-- The President announcing the Wizards' pick.
-- Rudy Giuliani or Donald Trump announcing the Knicks' pick.
-- Eminem announcing the Pistons'.
-- Aaron Neville for the Hornets.
-- etc.

Actually, that could be fun.

etc.

Hopefully the Skill Fairy will sprinkle some magic dust on the team during the offseason. Otherwise this team will look like the anti-Mavs, a bunch of athletes that lack skills.
