His option is definitely being declined, so he'll be a FA this summer. Some here want him back on a sub-MLE deal while others think it would be a mistake to re-sign him.

I am not deadset against re-signing him. However his health and attitude are big risks. With his age he is a questionable match for a re-building team.

I'm sure EG will take your feelings into account.

He should, because that's what should be a concern.

when he was here as a wizard i had no problem with his attitude. his health is the only red flag i see but i have a feeling the price for howard this off season will be fairly low.

Say NO to Howard and his injuries. Move on.

Injuries are big concern. HIs relatively poor play this year in Dallas is also a big concern. He was fantastic in 4 games in Washington, but 4 games does not a season make.

I'm open-minded to resigning him, but I'd insist on keeping the contract small and short, something like 3-years at $4M a year with a team option on Year 3. My guess is that somebody out there wants him more than us and would be willing to pay him more than that.

Declining the option and resigning him to a one year deal should work out well for both sides.

I'd love to do the deal nate is proposing, but there's absolutely no reason why him and his agent would go for it given how just about every stiff gets close to the MLE these days.

For me, it depends on who we draft. Thornton is already signed through next season, so if we draft a SF, then resign Howard, well, someone is going to get the short end of the stick, and I think we all know it'll be the rookie, so screw that. If we draft another position though, I'd be okay with Howard back on a < $3.5 million, one year deal. I'm really not interested in bringing him back on a multi-year deal unless he goes really cheap, like < $2.5 million per.

Josh will probably look for a short 1 year MLE deal on any team where he can show that he isnt done to get 2011 his last bigger contract. He wont sign something like 3/12 or 3/14.

I'll just say it now. I'll go completely ape sh*t if we re-sign him to anything more than a one-year deal. I don't care if its for $3-4 mil per. I think even paying him for one year coming off a major injury is throwing away money but I could at least live with it.

and if he bombs it in his 1 year MLE deal, he will surely never get another big contract. For a guy with as many injuries and red flags as him, I would surely try to get as much financial security as I can.
