Wizards interested in Michael Beasley??

Post#1 » by Cookin Baskets » Sat May 1, 2010 3:43 am

I just read a report on this site, that Wizards might trade for Michael Beasley with there possible $21 Mill in cap space this off-season. It says Wizards have mixed views however it is quite obvious Wizards should not waste any money to help Miami out clear out more cap space. Its not the money its his character and wizards should steer clear from this trade. They have plenty of other needs to address with there cap space. They should worry about the guard spot, maybe deal Arenas for more cap space themselves when he is finished with prison.

:P Whats your opinion from the Wizards fan point of view do you want him on your team or not?

I'm not opposed to picking up Beasley, but I'm leery of what Miami would want for him. Blachte? A future pick? Protected? Unprotected? Nick Young? Cleveland's pick?

They want to dump Jones and Cook too, so it's as much about what we take as what they get.

Taking that into consideration, the Cleveland's pick sounds about right, but with the 18th coming back to us.

It might sound ridiculous to think of incentive being thrown in on Miami's side, but Beasley to this point is flat our not worth $10 million a year.

Even the Miami fans put up little fight on the trade board.

He's only 21 years old. I'd take a chance on him. Beats re-signing Howard for $3 million, it beats paying Foye or Miller, and it beats trading for a guy with a big contract who may or may not be motivated to play.

And if it doesn't work out, we could always flip him. Miami seems to want to trade Cook or Jones as well. I'd take cook who makes $2 million next season. We're basically helping them take contracts off their book. The caveat is, though, the 18th pick. That has to come back to us.

I have no problem acquiring Beasley as long as it doesn't involve Blatche or our lottery pick. Almost anything else on this team (including the #30 pick) would be worth the risk.

Next year is Cook's last year on his contract, but doesn't Jones have 3-4 more years making 5+ million?

Where the heck does he fit on the team? Not only does he play the same position as Blatche, but he's got the same level of baggage and issues. Not really interested, I'd think PF is the one position we don't need to pursue. He's not going to be making come off the bench money.

I figured he's a SF or if not, that Blatche has played Center before. I don't see how it's really feasible anyhow. Sure sounds like a Grunfeld type move to me though.

Beasley is a tweener much like Antawn Jamison. He's too slow to guard small forward and he isn't big enough to guard power forwards consistently. His rebounding ability from college hasn't translated from college to the NBA. His numbers per 36 minutes are worse in his 2nd season than in his rookie season. He also suffered immensely in the playoffs against a tough Celtics defense.

Still, he's only 21 years old and possibly could fit in as a small forward in Flip Saunder's zone defense. He could improve significantly under Flip like Blatche and McGee but it would be a year of growing pains; (ie Beasley sitting on the bench and/or Saunders calling out Beasley in the media).

 Yeah-right, the Wizards kick-off the Ted Leonsis era by signing the spiraling Michael Beasley.

It makes pretty much no sense. At best, he's a poor man's Jamison, and he doesn't fill a need. The guy scored 2 points in the game they got eliminated in.
