Even in D.C., if Arenas had been found with guns in his home or “place of business,” it would have been only a misdemeanor, punishable by a $1,000 fine and/or up to a year in jail.

I might just be me, but I would have thought that the locker room would have been his "place of business"

You certainly persecuted him with that thread title. His first name sounds like a turkey part. ;-)

Yeah, you beat me to it. I mean, how can you NOT persecute a guy with a first name like that?

^^ it looks like she's actually looking at the name giblert lol.

I love gil he's a beast, I think we hate that he hasn't been playing consistently the last few years, but 22 and 7 is nothing to sneeze at whether healthy or coming off an injury.

This could easily go in the political black hole, but here is where the issue arose, since Arenas claimed he thought the Supreme Court's Heller ruling meant he could carry unlicensed weapons in DC.

Originalist interpretation of the Constitution struck down the local gun ban, but the original interpretation of the Constitution as practiced in courts and recognized by the states was that the Constitution defined the limits of federal power, and the words "shall not be infringed" meant "shall not be infringed by the federal government." That the Federal government can overturn a local law is a matter of convenience in DC, where the federal government won't cede true power and routinely overturns local laws, because they can, because DC is not a state. That the conservative majority relies on "originalist" interpretation to deny original interpretation is surreal, just as the liberal minority (which likely has no problem with all the other amendments being applied to the states) is so against the Second Amendment being applied to the states. Justices contort their "Constitutional interpretation" to conform to their personal views. And there are more 9-0 votes than 5-4 votes; perhaps the divided court is an illusion they collude to maintain so we think that at least some of them might be on our side.

I'm a big fan of the Supreme Court. The Wizards should change their name to the Supreme Court.

As for Arenas, some will continue to persecute him. Hopefully, he ignores that and just plays ball.

Well, despite the butchering of his name, Giblert should be thankful for you for pointing out the article. Its a really good read and it deserves a wider audience. Glad to see somebody explore Vescey's sleazy role in the whole fiasco.
