Yi to the Wizards for Ross

The Nets are close to moving Yi Jianlian.

They are working on a deal with the Wizards that would send Yi and cash to Washington for a player who makes “significantly less” than what the Nets’ power forward earns. Three sources confirmed this could happen.

The player could be Quinton Ross ($1.14 million) or the rights to one of their draft picks. Yi makes $4.05 million this season. Either way, the Nets are close to getting Yi’s salary off their books.

The Nets would do this to get as far under the cap as possible so they potentially could sign two max players. Yi for Ross would save the Nets close to $3 million and put them around $30 million.

Good move. Another big to compete for PT.

Yiiiiikes!

I guess we are trying to hose the Knicks so that they take Gil. Strangely, we were just talking about this on the T&T board with a Nets fan.

I posted this on the trade board. I figured we'd wait until some confirmation for a legit source before we dedicate a thread to it.

Not a bad deal if it happens, even moreso if Seraphin is not coming over this year.

As you can tell, we finally have an owner who knows a thing or two about marketing. With Sun Yue on the Summer League squad, and now this. Yao planning on opting out, wonder what that could mean.

Edit: NM on Yao, Wiretap says not opting out.

But his nickname is definitely "Yikes". That should be established now.

Edit to add --> I wonder if this would mean that we plan to play Booker more at small forward?

This article seems more definite:

The Nets have gotten another step closer toward their ultimate goal of hitting the $33-million mark in bankroll by dumping Yi Jianlian on the Washington Wizards, in a move that will be announced in a few hours.
In return, the Wiz are sending the Nets Quinton Ross’s $1.146 contract, which enables the Nets to increase their cap space to precisely $30 million – a nice round number that will get you LeBron James ($16.5M) and a stud who can start out at $13.5M.

I never really liked Ross, how long is Yi's contract? Seems like a good move.

Yi is on the last year of his contract. I doubt the guy is re-signed here.

If true, this would be a major coup for Ernie. This is a great use of cap space, a BOYD extraordinaire.

Yi might always be just an above average player in the league... but, he could blow up. He is long, young and very efficient.

12 and 7 for a guy who is just two years in the country is pretty good.

How is his defense?

Woof, while I understand why taking Hinrich may have frustrated some because the Wizards are (assuming he remains on the team for the duration of his contract) overpaying him for his abilities and overpaying for the pick that he was packaged with I was willing to let that deal ride because the Wizards were at least obtaining something of real value.

This, this is not so much like that. Big men who don't score efficiently, defend well or rebound are not something I would do a favor to another team to have.

I like the trade for Washington. Could probably start him at PF and Blatche at the Center. Having a 6'11 Center ain't bad when he's teamed up with a 7'0 PF.

Depends how much stock management is putting into McGee.

That's who Blatche dropped the majority of his 36 points on.

He can score though, sure.

Are Yi and Yao good friends?

Edit ... oops, didn't see that Yao decided not to opt out.

I've said several times that it is almost certainly that Booker will play the SF position ...at least on defensive end, the guy is pretty fast!

I hate Yi, but the truth is that the trade is not bad, is on the last year of his contract like Rafael said, so, it's not that bad.

Nets fan here, he's a complete scrub. Try not to get your hopes up about his "potential", low bball IQ will always prevent him from improving.

I see this move as a filler to have a benchwarmer incase one of your big men get injured.

A 48.1% TS is one of the worst in the entire league at PF. Coming from a Bucks fan, this guy is horrendous, but for Quinton Ross, no harm in taking a one year flier on him.

Awww c'mon Wood. We are giving up Quinton "Stinkin" Ross for Yi. You can't tell me this isn't a great trade for the Wiz considering we're giving up a guy who should be mowing my lawn right about now.

I strongly suspect the Wiz are getting cash and some sort of pick consideration. Otherwise it's a completely useless and terrible trade.

Looks like we finally filled that void we were missing from Oleksiy Pecherov.
