7 pounds and 1.25 inches...by my calculations that makes him even thinner than before. Javale, eat your F ing potatoes!

Do we have lots of nutritionists\cooks? One thing I've recently come to realize about working out is that eating right is 90% of the battle, and good kids though many of them seem to be, I'm not sure they've learned to feed themselves...

McGee was expected to continue growing a bit more, now I hope the pounds will start to come on a bit, the guy is still a twig.

if he grew an inch and gained only 7 pounds, then he must not have gained much muscle at all. It's going to take a while him to fill out. Its all good though. At his height he should play until he is 38 years old. Once he fills out, he'll be an effective defender and shot blocker without needing to jump at all.

The kid has no interest in gaining weight. He is who we thought he was. If you wanna crown his ass, then crown him. But he is who we thought he was :-)

Who knows if the inch is over the offseason or if it's from the last time he got measured - maybe a year ago - while the 7 lbs is just over the offseason - which still has months to go. The 1 inch and 7 lbs might not be over the same time period.

Pam told us what to expect - that he hadn't finished growing (All the men in their family kept growing through their early 20's.) and that would mean it'd take a few years for him to grow into his body - slowing his development.

I'm fine with this as long as we get a banging center somehow.

Yes, I agree now that the team is locked up at the PG spot for the future, the next most pressing need is a Starting C. McGee is always going to be the energy guy off the bench, I just don't see him maturing into a Starting caliber Center in this league.

Some good big men have been chosen in the 10-20 range in the past NBA drafts, so I'm hoping with some luck we can pluck one in the next couple years out of the Draft.

If you are still growing it can be very hard to gain weight, particularly if you have a naturally high metabolism. I'm not worried, this just makes his potential that much higher. He is 7'1 255, with much, much, much more room to pack on muscle without losing his athleticism.

With McGee you have to be very, very patient. It might take him a while to fill out and fully learn the game, but when he does .... watch out. I'm excited to see him when hes 28.

 Right on-time to flee for that big contract when the rookie gig is up. Gotta pay Andray too. OTOH, we might pay for a core of Wall, Blatche, and McGee.

I believe Javale will be 24 when his rookie deal is over. We just must be very patient.

Has his game grown at all? That's all that matters.

If he doesn't learn to play defense, you might have to go to Europe to do so.

His mother said he was 7-1 last year because he grow. That are just late to updating his stats.

Nothing to see here.. Move along.

Get him out of the center spot and let him play some PF while he is young, mobile, and slender.

I said the same thing about Dray but what do I know? I know. I know nothing.

We needed centers and we just drafted some. Good. Now free McGee to do what he is - a player who is a good weakside defender and who offensively is better outside in then post. Hmmmm.. Sounds like what I was saying about Dray.

But he cant shoot. He will be able to. Give him more shots. People said Dray wasnt and outside shooter.

His handles are weak, they will get better

McGee in a lot of ways is a more athletic and taller Dray in the making with less court vision.

Consider that for a moment.

I'm about 80% in agreement with you. I really don't see him maturing into using his full athletic potential either. Still, I'm OK giving him another few years before I close out that last 20%. I'd love to see some maturity in his thinking this year. Something that shows us he notices he still has team mates after he gets the ball, and perhaps some semblance of awareness of what the opposition is doing on defense would be a great step forward. But "energy big off the bench" is still a useful role - we can still use that.

I think I remember the stats guys on this board showing that McGee has no offensive game outside about 5 feet. Don't tall guys with no court vision and no jump shot usually play center? If he played PF, it'd have to be as an energy/defense/fast break player. I trust the ball in McGee's hands 12-20 feet from the basket less than any Wizard in recent memory.
