Michael Lee just posted this signing on his twitter account. He says one year - details to follow.

Huh? Why? Is Blatche's injury really that serious? What has he been up to? Wasn't he an epic failure with the Hornets?

You beat me to it.

One year? Sounds OK by me.

We're steadily showing that we're committed to not doing anything stupid.

AKA "Wizards Waste a Roster Slot."

I'd much rather take a flier on a summer league guy than a known 13th man.

Armstrong will be our backup center. I guess he's as good as Rasho Nesterovic or any of the other minimum salary vet bangers available.

His on/off numbers are dreadful. Perhaps it has a lot to do with the fact that he rarely plays alongside Chris Paul.

Here are his pace-adjusted per-36 stats:

Code: Select all

armstrong  PTS  REB  AST  STL  BLK   TO eFG%  TS%  PER
2009-10    7.5  8.6  2.2  1.6  1.3  2.3 .354 .381  6.9
2008-09   11.8  6.8  1.0  0.9  1.6  2.8 .561 .585 10.7
2007-08    9.1  8.3  1.2  0.8  1.7  3.0 .453 .498  7.8
2006-07   10.3  8.7  0.6  0.7  1.5  2.0 .544 .570 12.2

I remember a lot of people here were really high on him during the draft.

Might this be in reaction to the Seraphin 'hardball' stance on the contract buyout?

It shouldn't. Armstrong is our back up center. Seraphin is a power forward.

At least it means Oberto should not be back :)

If it is more than vet minimum it is a waste of money.

I think Seraphin has the length and strength to be a center. He will probably be Blatche's first back-up but also see some time at center.

This is puzzling because he's not exactly young and he's not a good veteran bench player either. It can't be that we didn't have other choices and had to go with him...right? I mean there's literally no upside to having this guy here on the roster, occupying a backup bigman spot.

Although I guess it depends on the type of deal. I suspect that it's a very small contract and it's more of a precautionary thing if Blatche cannot start the season or has to play very limited minutes to start off.

File this under "meh..."

He's fine as a minimum salary player on a one-year deal. Nothing special though. I don't hate the deal, let's put it that way.

Nothing wrong with this move. It has nothing to do with Blatch, KS, or anyone else...Just a backup big man who will get a lot of DNPs. I'd rather have a 25 year old who can run in that role than an Oberto type who is slower and will hack away.

Yep, and maybe, rather than a rookie that needs minutes or a wizened vet who might steal minutes, they wanted someone guaranteed to play only in event of foul trouble. Might have wanted more, but at his price, I don't know what else is available, so maybe just wishful thinking.

DNPCD's? You guys that high on La Di Da Di?

Here's a gem:

MrMichaelLee Hilton Armstrong sounded pretty excited about joining the Wiz. Asked what is deal was worth, he said, "1 year, $20 mil, something like that"

Nice! :D

Maybe Yi, Hamady, or Seraphin can translate that into English for him.

La Di Da Di is short for Hamady.

What I mean is that we might be making our bed at the Hilton more nights than not next year unless something unexpected happens. The roster isn't exactly overflowing with guys who are a lock to beat him out.

He's tall and it's a one year contract. No complaints, worth a flier. Seems like ernie's going after all the lottery busts of recent years. A bit worried that Kwame is on the agenda though. Hope they keep some room for some hungry undrafted unheralded and underappreciated guys though.

Yeah, and with McGee's fouls and still wispy body, he's not playing 36+ minutes. I just don't want to see someone continually stealing minutes at the expense of his in-game development. Hilton and La Dy whatever (and whoever's good enough to be 4th string) will do just fine.
