Wall
Arenas
Jones
Blatche
McGee

SHEEESSH! that would probably be the most athletic starting lineup in the NBA in 2011.

Hopefully the Wiz aren't in the tanking business this season because their young players take a nice step forward. If the Wizards are in the lottery and win it, I would prefer Harrison Barnes to Perry Jones, though. I don't see Jones playing the 3 in the NBA, while Barnes looks to play the 3. Jones may be a little more physically gifted than Barnes, but Barnes is much more likely to realize his potential because of his work ethic and court sense.

Absolutely not, and we couldn't lose enough games if we tried anyway.

Not for him - no. By all accounts, he had a disappointing season and then blamed it on his HS coach - while admitting he didn't always try. Granted, he was just a teenager, but I can't imagine tanking to get someone like that.

Just from the highlights package I saw, this guy looks like the second coming of Shawn Kemp the way he moves under and around the basket, and the way he throws it down and blocks shots. Even the way he runs the floor on the break, using basic crossovers and spin moves to elude the defense. Very Kemp-esque. Then theres highlights of him breaking his man down off the dribble from the 3pt line and making room to shoot a jumper. What? He should concentrate on playing under the basket where it looks like he could dominate. Stop trying to be Chris Bosh or Anthony Randolph dude. Being that tall and trying to emulate Tim Hardaway isnt going to fly at the next level. Having those skills can be helpful, but if thats what he relies on then he is just going to turn into another tweener forward who are a dime a dozen at the moment. Hopefully he gets a coach who sees this, hopefully he sees this, but it seems like he has a sh*t attitude.

And i genuinely doubt we would have enough ping pong balls to get him even if we raided the 2011 World Table Tennis championship.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

He's a 6'11 SF with a 7’2.5” wingspan.

:jawdrop:

That is just unreal.

Please God make it stop, never advocate tanking. It doesn't help a team most of the time, just look at the teams with the worste record the last few years and where it got them. Never cheer for a loser

I don't know about Jones specifically, but having another crappy year to land another top pick is ideal. People act like the team will be pretty decent, but the 2008-09 Thunder had Durant, Jeff Green, Russel Westbrook and still won just 23 games. That was enough to land the #3 pick and have 4 top 5 picks in three years.

The Wiz have one top 5 pick and a lot of maybes in Blatche and McGee. Yeah, a healthy Arenas would mean a lot of difference. But the Wiz had Arenas the last two years and stank. So it's not like Gilbert is a gimme.

I'm not saying the Wiz should tank. But the Wiz should not look at the here and now, and should do things that will help the team down the road. Like play Seraphin and Booker.

I can't remember who it was on the trade Arenas for Vince/expiring thread but someone made a well researched post stating that over the last 15 years or so any team that received the #1 pick, or and elite prospect PG in the draft, made a significant jump the following season. If I recall correctly, it was least a 10 win improvement over the previous season. Considering there are some really bad teams in the league if the Wiz end up with another top pick they are either insanely lucky to jump from 12th or 13th, or they had a colossal meltdown and everything we've been pinning our hopes to, ala; Walls greatness, Arenas' revival, the sceond half of last season for Blatche, and McGee's transformation as a game changing big are all dashed. My theory is you tank for an alpha dog and once you get him you do all you can to build around him and groom a winning environment. Please let it be so that I never cheer for the Wiz young'ns to play well but ultimately let it slip away to a more seasoned team.

what parallel universe are you from where Arenas hasnt missed most of the last two years?

This is true, however those three players were still rather green. Especially Westbrook who had point duty and was learning to run the team after playing SG in college I believe. Wall will have to learn this too, but he wont face the same difficulties, due to playing point last year, along with his natural skills and instincts for the position and bball IQ which are light years ahead of Westy's at the time.

Couple that with veterans Arenas (who granted is not a known quantity, but if his games last year are anything to go by, he should be fine), Blatche (ditto, with the post-trade games), Karlos Hinrique (who provides stability and veteran backup for Wall as well as leadership and tutelage for him), and the fact that we play in the East, and I think we're on track for a few more than 23 games.

my personal prediction is that we win 34.

I usually don't care for the reprising old threads, but that was an interesting fact that Jericho mentioned - about the 2008-2009 Thunder winning only 23 games the 1st year with Durant, Westbrook, and Green. We don't need to intentionally tank. We will lose a lot of games going with utes - no matter how good they are.
