HI Guys,

The family is traveling to the Washington area for about 3 days. The kids are in their 20's. What you would recommend as must see/do events in 48-72 hours in Washington?

The National Mall and the surrounding area has monuments, museums, and other government buildings to see. There's a boat called the Spirt of Washington (and I think another one called the Odyssey) where you can do a lunch or dinner cruise on the Potomac to see a lot of the sights. Those are pretty much the standard tourist traps...err...things to do in DC.

We've got another thread about this but that was started by a single guy interning on Capitol Hill and contained lots of nightlife suggestions. But since your kids are in their 20's that might be up your alley. I'm sure somebody can dig it up.

zoo, uncle ben's chili bowl (right off ustreet metro stop on the green line), georgetown waterfront, dc fish market, verizon center/chinatown, and of course the monuments. an often overlooked one is the library of congress.

When are you actually traveling? August is a pretty brutal time to be in DC, weather-wise, and many of the politicos will be out of town (Congressional recess).

If anyone can find the other thread, I'd appreciate it. We will most likely head out Saturday morning. It was very last minute so we have nothing planned right now.

We have a poster here named Wes_Tiny_Abe. He enjoys hosting out of town visitors at his condo and talking about how DC is a far better city today than 30 years ago.
