Jay Mariotti Criticized Gil ...

Post#1 » by Chocolate City Jordanaire » Sun Aug 22, 2010 5:14 am

THEN

This is what he had to say back in January:

http://jay-mariotti.fanhouse.com/2010/0 ... ommentform

Happy birthday, Gilbert. You just lost everything you worked for in life, all because you thought you were too cool for school when the principal has all the power to wreck your life.

AND NOW

http://www.fanhouse.com/2010/08/21/fanh ... -arrested/

FanHouse columnist and ESPN personality Jay Mariotti has been arrested on a felony charge in Los Angeles.

Hopefully, Mariotti hasn't wrecked his own life. We have to watch it and try to be compassionate for others when they fall, because you never know when the shoe will be on the other foot.

Oh how the wheel of life turns. If true, I hope the piece of **** rots. I have no tolerance for men who would raise their hand against a woman.

Mariotti is going to probably end up plea bargaining for a misdemeanor conviction. After serving whatever time and paying whatever fines criminally, he's going to also have to settle on a civil suit. His ESPN gig is probably over. So, too, most likely is his AOL Fanhouse writing gig. To me, the man's in for a world of hurt. (bad pun in there somewhere).

The most important thing is for Jay Mariotti to accept personal responsibility and to learn why he responded the way he did so that he can not put himself in that kind of predicament again.

After probably spending some token time in the slammer, undergoing lots of counseling, paying fines, and doing community service; I hope Mariotti has a great life as a better, changed man.

What he said about Gil having ruined what he worked for a lifetime unfortunately might apply to his career. We'll see.

CCJ, you should have posted this on the general board. :)

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

I wonder how bad he hit her? A $50,000 bond is a lot for a domestic assault charge.

+1

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

it's hard for me to muster up sympathy since i didn't like the man to begin with. couple it with "domestic disturbance" and it's really pushing the limits of my compassion.

This is now posted on the General Discussion board.

Mods, feel free to lock it. Others, can chime in on how media types love to hate on athletes that fall but when the tables are turned and a reporter screws up big time the ESPN network deals with it quietly.

While I suppose any authority and relevance that Mariotti might have had as a journalist and liver of life prior to this incident for critiquing anyone, a phylum of which Gilbert Arenas is a member, may now be diminished the man is a professional sensationalist and was less than beloved before anyone knew he stood accused of violence against more than the English language and his own hair. Mariotti managed to leave the Chicago Sun-Times in an ugly enough fashion to earn a smack down from no less than Roger Ebert.

For all of his faults, however, he is certainly dually equipped with capable senses of both comedic timing and irony.

Now that really is some ironic sh-t, Ed.

Timing is everything in life.
