Gil Out Ankle, Howard not ready yet

Summary - Orlando is one of the deepest teams in the league and a finalist contender. Bad match up for a first game. Specially without Gil and with our match ups against Howard. They just played off Wall and packed the zone. Rebounds 53-25

Veteran big man Sean Marks has accepted an invitation to try out for the Wizards, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation. Marks, a 6-foot-10 center from New Zealand, has career averages of 3.0 points and 2.3 in a 10-year career in Toronto, Miami, San Antonio, Phoenix and New Orleans, where the 35-year-old spent the past two seasons.

Cartier Martin has also informed the Wizards of his plans to participate in training camp, but the team is still waiting for confirmation from Lester Hudson.

I guess Sean Marks will be Orberto's replacement  .....oh-well, as-long as he doesn't take any minutes away from Kevin & JaVale. Hudson no-doubt would prefer to play overseas or land a camp- invite from a better team or a team with a shorter guard-rotation.

Finally some news starting to come out.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizard ... -news.html
Andray Blatche says he'll be ready for training camp

Andray Blatche assured me in a text message today that he will be ready when training camp begins on Sept. 28. Blatche had his boot removed about 10 days ago and has been moving without discomfort, Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld said on Monday. Grunfeld would not commit to a time when Blatche would be back on the court.

Although Blatche has been riding a bike and working on the elliptical machine in recent days, Grunfeld said he has yet to be cleared to participate in basketball related activities. Grunfeld added that Blatche was able to keep down his weight despite limited mobility.

"He's making good progress," Grunfeld said, "but we're not going to rush.

The Wizards extended a contract tender last week to second-round pick Hamady N'Diaye, ensuring that the team would retain his rights. The team had until Sept. 5 to make the offer - which was a non-guaranteed contract worth the league minimum - before N'Diaye became an unrestricted free agent.

The Wizards still expect N'Diaye to play in Europe next season, although N'Diaye's agent, Keith Glass, told the Washington Examiner last week that his client's limited playing time during summer league damaged his prospects for work overseas.

- As expected, they are not planning on him being on the team this year.

looks like singleton is gone.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizard ... zards.html

Yeah, I was just about to post that. Bummer.

James Singleton leaves Wizards for China

James Singleton determined that he would have more to gain (such as money and playing time) in leaving the NBA than sticking around for another shot next season. Singleton, a throw-in from the Wizards' trade deadline deal with Dallas last February who emerged as a regular rotation player, said on Monday that he signed to play next season in China with the Xinjiang Gyang Hui Flying Tigers.

I know a few of us wanted to see him return to the Wizards. Kind of sucks but at least we are starting to see what they will be doing.

This is good for the balance of trade - Chinese forward to America, American forward to China. Nice symmetry except that it's not likely that Singles will be getting $4 million for his services.

Meh, Singleton isn't that big of a loss with Booker around.

Can't wait for training camp. Funny seeing half of the WT about the Wizards.

If Booker showed more rebounding in SL I would feel more confident. If K Seraphin can be productive right away, we might be saying James Who? in a couple months. However if they don't get good rebounding from Booker and Seraphin, I could be a really long season. We could see a lot of great efforts from Wall and Arenas wasted due to getting killed on the boards.

If we only sign one more guy, I want it to be Cartier Martin.

Top Ten Remaining Free Agents

Earl Barron, C: It isn't easy to find competent big men in the NBA and, while he's certainly not the second coming of Wilt Chamberlain, Earl Barron has appeared to be, at least, competent in the NBA.

Last season, after being signed to a 10-day contract with the New York Knicks, Barron made the most of his opportunity, averaging 11.7 points and 11 rebounds in seven games (six starts) for the Knickerbockers.

Barron can face up and shoot the basketball and works well in pick-and-roll/pop situations. A team in need of third center or fifth big would do well by adding Barron, who won't command a ton of money.

My plug for common-sense, bring in Earl Barron instead of Sean Marks, he's 29 not 35 like Marks.

I'm confident Booker will get it going. I don't put much stock into preseason for non-lottery picks especially. Singleton was good, but he's not some irreplaceable hustle guy. I don't think losing his few MPG is going to be the difference from us being a bad rebounding team and a good one.

Louis Amundson still hasn't been signed, there is still time to bring-in a scrappy rebounder.

Booker is a question mark. That's all.

Singleton was a known quantity. And while that quantity wasn't a top producing star, he was a solid vet. He was a glue guy. He was a tough mature guy front court player where we lack tough guys. We have Wall and Kirk on the other end.

Singletons benefits are not about his numbers. Personally, I feel having him on the team would have had a big affect. I'm not saying we would win another 20 games because of him but I do think the team would gel and develop faster with him. I think he would have an affect on his teammates and molding them. Why he left is just another sign of why Singleton is a great dude.

My idea was the pay min more than the vet min. Not sure if we did that or not but I think we were a better team with him than without. What SIngleton brings to this team is something the team sourly lacks. So where do we go from here ? More of it will fall on Dray to step up as a role model and leader because besides him we have McGee - a kid still, Seraphin - rookie, Armstrong - a vet but a new guy, and Yi - known to be soft but looking better, Booker - a rookie question mark.

See why he mattered so much ?
