When you're up by 17 points you should win, I really made a fool out of myself celebrating early.

Shanahan didn't look too smart at the end.
When the kicker made the kick that didn't count due to the Texans getting a last-second timeout, Shanahan should have known better than to come back and do another kick. Punt or go for the first down on a fake punt--ANYTHING but do another kick.
That missed fg the Texans all they needed in terms of momentum.
Even before the missed fg, the Skins had a 3rd and 7 and the Skins went deep. The incomplete there was a bad call. Get 3-5 yards with a safe call, even a run, and have an option on fourth.

Agree and agree. I turned my son after that first made kick and said there is NO-doubt but that Gano was going to miss a 2nd attempt. The 3rd and 7 call I nearly put my foot through the set, that is not a high% play to call with the game on the line and you are trying to get a 1st down or close-enough to one to go for it on 4th possibly or give your kicker a better shot at the field-goal. Horrible loss.

Giants are getting stomped, Dallas lost and Philly is 1-1.
Losing to an AFC team in the grand scheme of things isn't the worst thing in the world. Pretty on par with the Saints loss last year though; absolutely heart-shattering. And Trent Williams will probably be out at least a few weeks with his "sprain." Good news is we finally have a QB in DC!

Haslett called the game like an idiot. Not double teaming Andre Johnson all game long was a boneheaded arrogant move. I can't even blame Reed. He sucks and the coach should know that. Leaving him in a deep zone with no underneath corner help was just the stupidest thing the coaching staff could do on a desperation play... yet they did it.
We just couldn't catch a break in the end. Portis has a TD to put us up 34-20 but trips on his own feet falling short one yard. Then Fred Davis misses the most important block on a FG (the outside rusher). Then McNabb misses a wide open Galloway to once again seal the game.

It's amazing to me how apathetic I am 'bout the old 'Merican Footy now. Haven't watched a game in years.

How hard is it to implement a rule that says you can't call a timeout with five seconds left on the play clock during a kick? I mean is it really that complicated?
Reason one to implement it: It hardly ever works so its a waste of time.
Reason two: The only time it *does* work is when you steal a win away from somebody who otherwise deserved it. Why is bad sportsmanship encouraged in the NFL?

It is what it is. The stupid play was the one we ran on 3rd and 7 in OT. No need to throw deep, rather try to get at least 4-5 yards with a draw or a dump off. Huge difference in a 51 yarder and a 46 yarder. Kickers are more like to make a 49 yarder than a 51. A two yard difference isn't a lot but going from the 40's range to a 50's range does a lot for kickers psyche. It was dumb to go for it all when we clearly weren't in a position to either punt or to have a make-able field goal.

In the big picture: Last week the Skins stole one against Dallas. This week, they really gave one away. They're right where they should be at 1-1.
They could be 0-2 like both Dallas and Minnesota. It is what it is.

Houston Texans are gonna make some noise this year, for sure. Look out for them, you don't want to play them in the playoffs (if they make it).

Thats Hind sight the Texans were totally not expecting it, It was one of the few blemishes in Donovan's performance that he missed that throw, if the play executes well its brilliant, and Gano showed that he could make it from even 60 with the distance he had on it. He just needs to get some ice in those veins. The bigger issue was the running game. a draw play would have surely yielded the same it results it had all night, Portis was obviously banged up, Williams (the rook) had fumbling problems in training camp, and i don't want LJ touching the ball anytime soon for anything after that play! If we had been able to just move the chains just two or three times in the fourth running the ball, there's no way we would have lost. The running game needs surgery quickly! LJ bone head play, Browns false start, Heyers Hold, Davis missed chip on blocked fg. The huge moments that gave life to Texans.

It's a chicken and egg thing, RealGM's bread-and-butter is hoops really, they cover the other sports as-well, but the majority of activity is on the basketball boards so people put everything into the hoops threads. The football part of RealGM is a ghost town.

At this point in the season, I think the most important thing is whether or not the Trent Williams and Laron Landry are healthy. I'm fine with the game. Yes, mistakes were probably made, and weaknesses were exploited, but the Skins stood head to toe against an outstanding team that's going to score a ton of points this season. It's rough - losing a 17 point lead at home, but this week actually boosts the Skins chances this season, in my view - if Williams and Landry are healthy.

The Skins can't replace LJ with Torrain soon enough. Johnson is done, cooked... stick a fork in him.
Also, as much as I like Portis and I REALLY like this tough guy reincarnation, I just don't think you can have a featured back whose best quality is his blocking skills.
Granted, the holes opened up by the line aren't going to remind anyone of Jacoby, May, Bostic, Grimm and Starke anytime soon... but a younger, stronger, harder running back is going to be able to grind out some more yardage in this offense.
A 17 point lead is safe when you can run the ball.
That said, it was one of those awful nights trying to sleep because, despite the anemic rushing attack, we should have won the game... any ONE of these results of a play don't go the Texans' way and we still win:
1. Screen play at end of 3rd for 40 something yards on 3rd and 13.
2. Portis doesn't slip.
3. Brown doesn't jump offside.
4. Davis actually TRIES to block the outside rusher.
5. Doughty holds onto the ball.
6. Doughty grabs Johnson's OTHER arm on the TD catch.
7. OT field goal... no timeout (stupid rule).
8. Either of the reviews go against the Texans.
That's a lot of bad luck... but hey, I'm a Skins fan, I'm used to it.

I'm with all of you on LJ. He is just awful. Never seen a RB as slow as him. Mike Sellers looks faster.

It's been 10 years since I've seen a defense in Washington this bad. The 2000 defense was pretty bad. Not that it matters much after two games but Washington has to be dead last, or close to last in overall defense rank. This reminds me a lot of Denver's Shannahan defenses.
