The Amazingly Sucky Kirk Hinrich

Let me be the first to post this most obvious topic. He is SUCKY at the veteran's minimum, much less the $9,000,000/year we are paying him. Can he be any more unathletic??

Yeah but he's part of the culture change. He's a hard worker that takes his job seriously and is unlikely to do anything stupid off the court. Based on this team's recent history, you almost can't put a price tag on that.

And don't forget - we got the rights to Seraphin and $3M in cash, so that has to mitigate his contract IMO.

We just won. Can't we go 20 minutes after a W without a new negativity thread?

sigh.

On a certain level, you are right, Pine. Yet, KH leaves me no choice. He was soooo Sucky during the game that the thread was typed before the third quarter was over.

Three questions to ponder:
1) If he could run or jump better, would he still be labled as a "heady" player?? Or is that a
moniker given only to stiffs who can't beat you with legitimate athletic skills?
2) If he were 7'6", would he be more agile than Georghe Muresan or Manute Bol??
3) If he weren't Caucasian, would he even be in the NBA?? (Sad, but still legitimate, question)

Oh, didn't see the timing of the thread Tiny Too (during the game, not afterwards)

Sorry about that.

Damn, I didn't even read to the end till now.

Uh...I'm really tired and know that I lack judgement this second, so I'm sleeping on it.

But Tiny Too, I need to tell you -- (at the risk of starting some incendiary race thread again). If somebody (who was white) had posted that, but instead said Asian or Latino or Black, there'd be produce throwing.

I pretty much hate the "white man's discount" in the NBA that states that whites are automatically less athletic. (And the equally horrible correlarry that says they're smarter).

Hinrich is what he is, a guard who's physical skills seem to be declining - not based on race, but on age.

My fellow mod Nate got flamed over a throw-away (in his mind) line in a post. I give you the benefit and believe that this line about being white is similar.

Again, too tired to get into this b/c I need sleep. But don't be surprised if this thread goes away completely when I wake up and have a clearer mind.

KH gives it everything he's got out there. I love his effort. However, for a player touted as being intelligent, he makes some really stupid decisions at times. To be fair though, he hasn't been here long enough to fairly assess his value IMHO.

He's been phenomenal on the defensive end, but he has not been what I expected offensively. He's straight up bricked some wide-open shots (including 2 really terrible shots from the corner today) and turned the ball over far too much for my liking.

I think he'll play better, but if he's going to be that unreliable then we might be better off putting an out of shape Gil into the starting lineup.

The idea that Hinrich is a "heady" player needs to die. He's never made smart decisions with the ball in his hands and has always been turnover prone. Actually when he first came into the league, he was a pretty good athlete. But he's definitely lost a step, maybe two since a few years ago. I disagree with Tiny Too's racial comment but I do have to believe if he wasn't white, no one would be calling him "heady".

I want him to show some life. A deadline deal to Portland (where i think he would fit in well as a sixth man or a starter next to Roy) would be fantastic. Something centred around Pryz and Rudy for Hinrich and a second. Would Portland go for something like that? I would even just do Pryz for Hinrich straight up.

When Pryz is healthy id much rather him off the bench instead of Armstrong. Portland strengthen their bench by getting a good defensive PG to back up Miller, and only give up a guy who they wont need when Oden comes back healthy (knock on wood).

I have to admit, I've never heard anyone refer to him as "heady," and I'm not sure what anyone would be saying if they did, and why it would apply more to white or black. To me, heady would apply more to LeBJ or Kobe or Durant or some other powerhouse player.

A lot of what Hinrich has isn't so much "smarts" (not that I think he's stupid) but that he had what so many other four year college players had, time to work on fundamentals. He was a decent athlete and in his prime he was maybe a little better than average overall, a good passer, shooter, and defender, and he never dogged it. He wasn't a flawless decision maker but he was usually pretty steady, even when his physical skills betrayed him. He's overpaid now, but he might not be the headache he is if he was a third guard rather than starting and sometimes playing in three guard sets. And he won't make waves. He's pretty much a team player. I hated all those TOs tonight, but I'm not assuming permanent failure yet.

Hinrich seems to get more talk of being an outstanding citizen and teammate than heady player, kind of like Jamison did. I think to some extent, those concepts then become blurred.

I like his pick and roll defense and...uh...that's about it.

I'd like to see him in more limited minutes before making a real assessment as there's lot's of guys who will breakdown if overplayed, but........I can see why the early early results trickling in from the polling stations would trend towards "Amazingly Sucky".

Some of his plays are so off that you really feel the embarrassment in the home crowd and then Hiney's reaction to that. Awkward.

Hinrich is a fundamentally sound basketball player, and in the short-term with the knuckleheads this team has his presence is probably a good thing. My only issue with Hinrich is based on what he said in the off-season and his body language, that is he doesn't really want to be here in Washington.

Interesting. I must have missed that. Was he rumored to be going somewhere else, like to a contender, and Chicago turned it down to send him here? Does he have a personal beef with somebody on the roster? If not, I don't get why he'd be upset.

I would think he'd like the chance to get the attention that comes from playing with John Wall and be in a situation where he can start (at least for now). Eventually it'll get to a point where Gil is closer to 100% and Howard is also playing, but Hinrich being forced to switch to the third guard role would probably be best for him anyway since he'll likely look better with reduced minutes (meaning he'll maintain his value).

I don't see what's so sucky. He's shooting better from the field than both of our power forwards. He averages as many turnovers as Javale McGee despite a higher usage. He guards the other teams big guard despite giving up 3-4 inches every game. No he's not setting the world on fire, but he's been decent on a bad team.

On a side note, these "sucky" threads are annoying.

On another side note, these "sucky" threads are tradition. We don't win our only playoff series in the last 30 years without one of these "sucky" threads. Don't forget that.

Is it time for a sucky "sucky threads" thread? If only Ji were here to start it :)
