Well, Andrews AFB to be exact.

I posted here several months back about potentially moving to DC because my wife was up for an LLM program selection at Georgetown. Well the bad news is that she wasn't selected. The good news (well, hopefully good news ) is that we're headed to DC anyways because she got picked for a really good slot at Andrews AFB. In case you were wondering, she's a USAF JAG.

So once again I'm looking for housing advice. We're getting a nice housing allowance (it's calculated for DC Metro), and since we don't have to live in DC now, are looking to rent a single-family home in the nearby Maryland/Virginia area. I wouldn't mind buying in the area, but that would mean losing my great tax incentives with being a homeowner in Florida. I've heard mixed places on where to live. I'm not sure where I'll be working yet; I've applied for Gov't positions in Suitland, DC, and Baltimore.

So any suggestions on areas to look that are relatively close to Andrews AFB and the areas I'm looking for work? Everyone has told me to stay out of areas that end in the word "Heights". I've heard some good things about Upper Marlboro, but am worried about the commute if I have to work in DC. Major concerns are 1) Safety, 2) Location to parks/water since I have a Jack Russell that I exercise all the time, and 3) safety.

Thanks for any advice. As a long-time Lakers fan, I look forward to seeing them in person against the Wizards and maybe meet some of you guys in the process.

Oh yeah, one more stupid question. As someone who's lived most of their life in Hawaii, I'm a very-laid individual. I've worked in the private sector and for Fed Gov't for most of my career, all without ever wearing a suit or tie to work. When I was working for the USACE in Hawaii, I routinely turned down meetings/conventions in DC because I didn't want to go through the hassle of getting all dressed up and acting in proper protocol.

So what's the possibility of continuuing my "lifestyle"? Is a suit/tie commonplace? Should I start adding to my wardrobe?

A few months ago I sent a letter to the NHL recommending the Capitals upcoming Winter Classic game be played in PG County just off of Central Avenue.

I stated my case the best I could.

Nobody from the NHL wrote me back or contacted me.

LOL, Howzit Bruddah? I guess the L&L closed down in DC? I know there used to be one there. I'm east of Dallas right now, and there's an L&L in Plano that I haven't been to yet.

Anyways I'm looking forward to the move as I'll be near the water again. I found a SUP (Stand-Up Paddleboard) club in Annapolis. I've been wanting to get back on a board for awhile now since we moved to the mainland.

Sad story BTW. Reebok has these awesome throwback NHL fleece that look like retro NHL jerseys. They had a special sale for them, were down to $20, normally $60. The Capitals ones were all gone before I ordered

Never been an L&L here since I moved here in 1999. But there USED to be a plate lunch place in Ft Washington, MD = but it closed down.

Welcome to the area! I grew up right down the street from Andrews, off Suitland Road (my dad and brother still live over there). Not a lot of stuff over there as far as stuff to do, but GI Liquors always has good prices!
