Fare you well, Gilbert Arenas

This thread is NOT for discussion of the trade. Just a place for people to say goodbye to Gil, should they choose to do so. I feel a little numb right now, so I'll let the Grateful Dead speak for me for the moment:

Fare you well, my honey, fare you well my only true one.
All the birds that were singing are flown, except you alone.

Im Going to leave this brokedown palace,
On my hands and my knees, I will roll, roll, roll.
Make myself a bed by the waterside,
In my time,in my time, I will roll, roll, roll.

In a bed, in a bed, by the waterside I will lay my head.
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.

River going to take me, sing sweet and sleepy,
sing me sweet and sleepy all the way back home.
It's a far gone lullaby, sung many years ago.
Mama, mama many worlds I've come since I first left home.

Goin' home, goin' home, by the waterside I will rest my bones,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.

Going to plant a weeping willow,
By the bank's green edge it will grow, grow, grow.
Sing a lullaby beside the water,
Lovers come and go, the river roll, roll, roll.

Fare you well, fare you well, I love you more than words can tell,
Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.

Gilbert is my favorite player of all time. I think for people who liked him, he built almost as much as an emotional connection as an athlete can build with his fans through all the ups and down.

The last few years were rough, but when you look at the last twenty years, Gilbert Arenas from 2005 to 2007 stands out as the peak of the Washington Wizards in the modern era.

I'll always remember him dropping 60 on the Lakers, the game winner against the Bulls, the shot against the Jazz. I'll remember all the good and the bad but never forget that the bad outweighed the good.

And I'll continue to follow Gil in Orlando. The Wizards aren't competing this year, so as far as wins go, I'll cheer Orlando to do damage in the playoffs.

This is the best for Gilbert and the organization. It felt like the end of an era because it is.

Good luck Gil. Your fan base with Washington will likely always support you.

Here here to this thread. Gil is easily my favorite Wizards player since the days of the Big E, Dandridge and Unseld. He gave us more thrills in his few years of actual playing here than anyone since the championship era and quirkiness aside, was an extremely nice player in his relationship with the fans of DC. I'll miss him, continue to watch him and root for him with the Magic and will always wish that he and Wallace never collided.

Good luck Gil.

His # should be retired and hang from the rafters.

Farewell Gil!
Without wanting to get too emotionally invested...
You are the reason I got into the Wizards.
You are the reason for the best two seasons as an NBA fanboy I have had.
You are by far my personal GOAT :D

It's a shame you got injured in April 2007 in the first place.
Without that injury, I'm seeing you in the hall of fame.

I doom this franchise if we don't see the #0 jersey hanging from the rafters
of Verizon Center a decade from now.

It was certainly time for you to move on. You and the franchise have lost
mutual trust and faith. Gil, you are only turning 29 next month. I hope you
will excell in Orlando, playing the game you love, possibly winning it all.

Never stop working, stay the person you are, you made me a wizard for life!

Farewell, Gilberto Hibachi Agent 0 ARENAS.

+1

My favorite Gil moment was the winning shot against the Jazz. I loved how he turned his back and raised his arms before the ball even went in. His swag was phenomenal.

I have never felt a connection to an athlete more than Gilbert. I feel a part of my teenage years just left me today.

With the way things were going I kind of knew this day would come. But man, it all happened so fast in less than 24 hours. I remember getting heated up in our last game thread because that Hawks fan wouldn't stop berating Gil. I wish we could have had one last dominant performance by him.

Good bye Gil. I hope you win a championship. Zero to Hero.

This is a sad day, and what a dark month for D.C.

Farewell Gilbert and good luck, you were the best Wizard I've seen in my lifetime. Such a shame Wallace had to end such a promising career.

If this doesn't make you sad and smile at the same time, you have no heart.

So long Gil...we'll miss you man.

Thanks for everything you did for the team, fans, and the area....the parties, game winning shots, blogs (Gil's blog - set the tone for blogs/twitter that most athletes use now), community engagement, games at Barry Farms, the swag, the love, the hibachi, and the quality shots.

You made watching the Wiz fun again

Thanks for the memories.

Who would've thought in less than a year...you, Caron, and Antaawn would all be gone. I will still rock my Redskin Gil Adidas with pride.

Farewell my friend.

Damn... I can't believe he's actually gone... :( He was the sole reason I became a Wiz fan... wow...

I will still root for him, where ever he goes and whoever he plays against, simply b/c he's my favourite sports persona ever... He's the reason people call me Hibachi on the court, the reason I got Hibachi written on my b-ball...

It was great watching you as a Wizard Gil, hope you get back to the player you was before you got injured (F you Wallace!!!), and all the best to you and your family... You're the reason I followed the NBA, thanks for all the good times!!!

You'll be missed Gil, keep proving the haters wrong my man...

Love you Gil(nh)!!!

Gil resurrected our franchise, and if it wasn't for some freak injuries things probably could have went in a different direction. His time as a wizards were some of my favorite, cause I'm a relatively recent fan, started seriously following in 2000, I hope he returns to form. I hope he wins it all at least once. G'luck Gilbert.

Gil was a special player before the knee injury Wizards haven't had a top 5-10 player in a long time. He eventually got the little things like playing defense and making quality passes but that's when he already lost his explosiveness. It would have been interesting to see if Arenas could have replicated what he did in 2006 against the Cavs. The Wizards certainly weren't that far from getting to the Finals in a weak East IMO- although they probably would've gotten swept by the Spurs anyways.

I've been a die hard Bullets- Wiz fan since about 1972... have rooted for some great players , but hands down, Gil was my favorite.

Godspeed my friend... I'll be rooting for a Magic title this year.
