With Jonny Flynn back for the Timberwolves, teams are showing interest in Sebastian Telfair, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports.

According to Spears, the Knicks, Warriors and Wizards are interested.

Telfair is averaging 7.4 points and 3.4 assists per game this season.

Don't know if our interest was before we signed Hudson or perhaps Hudson will be cut again.....if we sign Tel.

Telfair? How ironic. Wonder if the Wizards even know or care about Telfair's hand gun in his airport bag issue? I believe he had at least one other legal issue early in his career. (Edited to add link--Yes, he did).

Might not matter but the Wizards make curious moves at times.

Simply incredible. Can anyone explain why what Telfair did was ANY different than what Arenas did? Illegal possession of a gun?

Unless we are trading for Kaman--or a two way low post .. (we had a chance at boozer and didn't get him this summer) telfair is not going to make a difference on this roster. OUr best bet is to let this team struggle and develop chemistry. all of our bigs have the potential to improve mentally, we aren't making the playoffs so let nick young or josh howard develop some point guard skills. TEd needs to force all of his players to know each of the five positions in the playbook and create rewards for those who show a mastery through positive reinforcement.

Wow - I forgot about that! Great point!

If we sign Telfair, I'll probably ignore the team out of disgust until Grunfeld is gone.

I like what Telfair has done to turn himself into a decent NBA backup. While he's still not much of a perimeter shooter, I give him credit for improving that part of his game.

Yup, Telfair's gun incident does raise red flags, but he was probably 20-21 when it happened, and I don't recall him having any issues since then.

I figure there's a reason Minny went back and picked up Telfair as a free agent after trading him last season...and there's a reason 2-3 teams are talking about trading for him know. Sounds to me like those you know Telfair best don't have any problem with his character so why should we. I'm happy for the kid from Coney Island.

To be fair to Telfair, he has not gotten into any trouble at all since he was in BOS, several years ago, so I don't think he is a character risk. I do think though that WAS will be particularly sensitive tothe type of incident he had - gun charges - because the media may harp on it. That's probably unfair to Telfair and how he's ut his past behind him, but he's responsible for his actions, even as a kid.

I think if a team wants a reliable back-up PG, Telfair today can fill that role. He's been better this year than at any time I can remember, sometimes outplaying MIN's expensive free agent acquisition - Ridnour, but MIN definitely needs to give Flynn all the minutes they can this year, before Rubio shows up. Telfair just ends up the odd man out.

I don't think there's any particular desire for Telfair specifically, the Wizards just want a reasonably capable PG with a pulse who won't be on the books after next year and who won't cost them anything of value to acquire.

If the idea is to trade one of Thornton or Yi for a backup PG with an expiring contract, then Telfair is one of the few candidates available.

WHAT? Wasn't a 1 time gun offense enough for the Wizards to voluntarily set the franchise back in an effort to get rid of Arenas?! How is this any different?

Actually, that was Arena's second gun offense. He was busted with an illegal gun in his car when he was with GS. And Arenas added to his second offense when he not only brought guns into the locker room, he joked about it a few days later like it was no big deal.

Plus Arenas was 28 years-old NBA vet---a supposedly mature adult. Telfair was a 20-21 kid in his first or second NBA season. That's big difference, imo.

Ernie just can't seem to get enough of these former mid-to-high 1st round draft picks who were busts.

I await word of our interest in Hasheem Thabeet. :-/

Isn't this splitting hairs? We're willing to throw away $60M in one case but the other is just fine?

Exactly. The name "Telfair" isn't important here. Substitute in "available third string point guard with an expiring contract and a salary comparable to one of our third string forwards." As I noted in the trade thread, this would be a roster balancing move, little more, so I'd be just fine with getting the guy.

I have no problem with Telfair as third guard. I was just having fun pointing out his multiple suspensions for hand gun violations. Irony at it's finest if he's acquired.

Thornton deserves a trade to where he can get minutes for his next contract. If they achieve moving him for a decent PG so be it

So is Telfair an expiring contract or does he have an extra year on his deal?

Hmmm...$60 mil for Arenas...$3-4 mil for Telfair. Sounds like you're defeating your own argument.

No you just aren't quite understanding it.
