All-Star Weekend thread

Post#1 » by keynote » Wed Feb 2, 2011 12:36 am

- Wall's in the Rookie/Sophomore game. Right now, he's teamed up w/ Griffin, but that probably won't stick, seeing as he'll be promoted up to the big boy squad.

- McGee's in the Dunk contest.

- Blatche is likely to be snubbed for the 3 Point Shooting contest.

Discuss. Or, leave blank until the weekend after next.

Wall will probably be in the Skills Challenge.

Wall hopefully will sneak into the skills competition to give me a reason to watch it this year.

Not too surprising, but Evan Turner is not on the Rookie squad.

Sixers should have taken Cousins. Or Favors.

Cousins by far. He's putting up great numbers. Favors isn't even doing that great imo.

Maybe Young has a chance to be in the 3 point contest since he's shooting 39% from 3 point range or at least down the road if he improves on that number. He probably could do well since adapted well as a catch and shoot player

I must confess one of my annual guilty pleasures is sitting down to watch the Rookie/Sophmore challange game on all star weekend. I just love it, its so spastic and fun to watch. I would have to bet most NBA coaches, while pleased thier player got the honor of being selected to play the game, must cringe at seeing them revert back to the AAU / AND1 style of basketball they have been trying to wean the players off of for the past year or two.

Still, for some reason I find that game the highlight of the weekend.

I will watch the dunk contest too and root for McGee. I am sooooo glad Nate Robinson is not in it again, that got painful to watch.

might be tough for Nick to get into the 3pt contest, he's no where near the top for 3P %. I kind of think he may have had a better chance in the dunk contest than McGee to win though.
Sit back and watch WALL WORK!! >:-)

Indeed. When was the last time the Wizards had this much representation during the secondary events of ASW?

I'm just glad I'll have a rooting interest in something on All-Star Weekend (Skills Challenge, Rookie Challenge, Slam Dunk Contest).

I would love to see Nick in the 3 contest. But I think I want to save it for next year. It going to be hard enough getting him signed cheap as it is. We dont need him to get hot and run the 3 ball table on national tv.

Hopefully this years dunk contest is better than last.

I must say, i do enjoy the other events, skills challenge should be fun. That shooting stars thing needs to go really... We have the three point contest, thats exciting enough. But i guess they need to make up the time so people dont feel ripped off for buying a ticket that day.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

It's been a scary long time since we had anyone in the rookie sophomore game. Jarvis Hayes was the last Wizard to play in the game in his rookie season.

At first I thought Griffin wasn't going to play in the rookie vs. sophomores game, but he is. Wall to Griffin is something I am looking forward to watching.

And when and who were the last players to represent in the dunk or other skills contests.

I can't ever remember us having a dunk contest person.

What is the history of the Wiz being represented ? Not talking about just in the game. I know CB, AJ and Gil where there as well as other players over the years.

But dunk, skills, 3 ball contest. What about that. I think Gil did the 3 ball one year but I don't recall him doing very well.

gil was fun to watch at the 3 point comp. he got to the 2nd round and lost (i think to jason kapono? who set the record) when gil knew he was gonna loose, he started putting up shots one handed just for fun and eventually hit one.

gil was also in the skills challenge but failed miserably because he couldnt hit the ft line jumper...

Flip Saunders was quoted in the paper following the Orlando game that McGee was playing with a sore back. Any update on that? I wonder if McGee will stay in the dunk contest.

Glad to see Wall in the skills challange! :)
