Wonder if this report is accurate? If so, this might be a golden opportunity to nab us a Jazz player on the cheap.

It's going to be hard to picture Utah without Jerry Sloan coaching them. He always seemed like a class act. I hope he leaves on good terms and they do something special for him.

Apparently it was conflicts with Deron Williams and a lack of management support that lead to Jerry Sloan resigning.

I heard the reason he was leaving was that he was so impressed with K-Honey's shades during our MLK day game that decided to move to Hollywood and market his own line of designer sunglasses.

Wow. It looks like both Paul and Deron Williams will be on the market in 2012. And Dwight Howard could be too.

No point bringing in Jerry Sloan unless you think he'll be an effective coach when he's 72. This team won't be ready to win until at least 3 years down the line.

Wow, Sloan doesn't deserve to go out like this. I officially hate Deron Williams now.

Never been much of a fan of DWill. One of my good friends went to HS with DWill in Texas and said he was a total D-Bag. Then I heard he was always at odds with Booz and throwing Hayward under the bus, now leading to the end of the Sloan era...I'm eagerly awaiting the downward spiral of the Jazz. Sloan, in my estimation, was the best coach of the last 25 years. Never had a dominate player. Made Stockton and Malone HOFers and never let the Jazz sink to the Wizards level despite never having elite talent.

Sloan is/was a great coach but I wouldn't say that he "made" Stockton and Malone HOFers.

Sure you can, just like D'Antoni made Nash a two time MVP. He was a fringe all-star while with Dallas and then played in the perfect system for his skills for D'Antoni. Now look at Ray Felton went from scrub to nearly averaging a double-double. Or James Worthy--would he be a HOF if Nique got picked by the Lakers and Worthy went to Hotlanta, or would Robert Parish be a HOFer if he stayed in GS? Some players get put into the perfect situation to maximize their skill-set. Sloan squeezed every ounce of talent out of Stockton/Malone. They'd probably be very good players elsewhere, but there's a difference between good player (Nash in Dallas) and HOF bound (Nash in Phoenix).

No, you can't.

IMO, you're severely the underrating the abilities of both Stockton and Malone.

Sloan didn't give Malone his great strength and his ability to run the floor.

Sloan didn't give Stockton his otherworldly court vision.

Its one thing to say that Sloan ran a system which accentuated the abilities of Stockton and Malone (Heck, that's what any good coach should do).

But its another thing entirely to say that he "made" them.

Let me pose a question to you: In your opinion...what HOFer wasn't "made" by his coach?

And if you can name some, I want to know why they weren't "made" by thier coach while Stockton and Malone were.

I think whoever is responsible for implementing the Pick/Roll offense in Utah should get the credit for making Stockton/Malone HOFer's.

I would guess that would be Jerry Sloan, though not 100% on that.

Also, if I had to guess I would assume Sloan taught Stockton at least a couple of those dirty tricks he used to use so well on defense, setting screens, etc.

For example, imagine putting Stockton/Malone on an Eddie Jordan coached "weave & heave" squad.. I somehow doubt their career path would've ended up the same.

Stockton and Malone were just as awesome before Sloan under Frank Layden. In 87/88, they won 51 games, Stockton posted a PER of 23 in his 3rd season, and Malone posted a PER of 20 in his 2nd season. Malone made the All Star Game.

And.. I sit corrected. I started watching the NBA around 1990, definitely never had a glimpse of Stockton to Malone before Sloan.

At the end of the day, it's Utah. I'm sure Williams has been miserable his entire pro career and he's dying to get out. IMO, Jazz and Sloan made a mistake thinking Sloan leaving would mean Williams will stay. He won't. He's bolting in 2 years.

I am not in the fire flip to fire him, but I could get behind bringing in Sloan. I think the move would be best to do in the off-season to give him a whole camp to get things established. While the Wizards record would seem to be the most appealing destination, the chance to coach a build a team around John Wall might make it more appealing than the average rebuilding team.

Im all for it simply to fast track the culture change. Can you imagine how much Blatche would infuriate him though? McGee would probably give him fits as well.

The prospect of Wall recieving Sloan's tuteladge in much the same way D-Will did is too juicy to pass on. Unlike D-Will, Wall has proven he doesnt have that 'NBA diva' attitude, and takes it upon himself to improve from his mistakes and take responsibility for his actions despite his young age.

My father and grandfather were proud Illini alums, so I've been rooting for all thing Fighting Illini since I was born. Seeing D-Will turn into such a great NBA pg have been rewarding. Seeing him, apparantly, also becoming an all-to-typical NBA diva is sad. At Illinois, he was just 1 of a trio (D-Will, Dee Brown and Luther Head) and did not exactly stand out head and shoulders above the other two. If he was a diva then, Bruce Weber kept it in check. Now he is an NBA superstar and well paid, is his true colors coming out.

I've heard that Jerry Sloan can be very tough on his players, to the point of getting into actual fights with them. That being said, he consistently turned out great teams and I think Utah will regret his stepping down for the near and mid-term. I doubt the present Utah lineup can hang together without Sloan at the helm. I bet the really falter down now. Deron Williams may be the next trade drama-mama ala Lebron and Melo and CP. . .

Sloan's head would explode within a week of coaching the Wizards.
