Emir Preldzic, the Wizards might have a quality player here

Whoa, I never start threads on this site. Anyway, I'm sure there is a thread somewhere for this guy but the search function isn't working so I'm not looking for it.
From watching this clip I assess he can contribute to an NBA roster very soon. He's surprisingly adept at handling the ball in the open court. He's battling for rebounds and hustling all over the place. I'm repeating myself but I'm surprised with how well he handles the ball in the open court. Nice easy motion on his FT with a smooth release. He's definitely aggressive out there attacking the hoop and creating miss match problems with his height and ball handling. He finds his teammates in motion and delivers the ball in places they can score(8:38 mark, that was beautiful).
I'd like to see him in Vegas this summer. I need to see him defend better athletes and see how well he shoots his jumper off of rotations and kick outs.

He is an interesting prospect. His playmaking ability is nice, but I think what the wizards really need is from a SF is defense and outside shooting.

From what I have read he doesn't have any buyout issues so he could be a person the Wizards at least take a look at in summer league, but he would probably better from more seasoning overseas. He has done really well for a good team in the Turkish league being named an All Star this year after averaging 12pts 6reb 4ast 56%FG 48%3pt 92%ft, but when they played in the tougher Euroleague this year he didn't fair as well only averaging 7pts 4reb 2ast 36%FG 19%3pt (he struggled shooting against better athletes).
Scouts think down the road he could become a useful bench option in the NBA and be a lesser shooting Toni Kucok/less athletic Nicolaus Batum. He has really developed his skill level and become a tough matchup as a versatile point forward and his ticket in the NBA will be his playmaking ability (with his size, ballhandling ability in transition and as the ballhandler in pick and roll situations, passing ability, and ability to see the floor). He has developed his shot, but it is still inconsistent and as seen from the Euroleage stats he struggles with it against better competition. He needs to get stronger for the NBA game, he won't be a great slasher at the NBA level because he lacks explosiveness on his first step (which will affect his scoring), and defensively he will have a tough time guarding stronger posts and quicker wings (should be a good off ball defender with his length and anticipation skills).
Giving him some run in the SL would make alot of sense.
Verbal -- he doesn't necessarily have to be developed as a small forward. It's quite obvious he's comfortable playing the point. He might have trouble guarding the quicker point guards in the league, but at 6'9 he would cause alot of matchup problems.

The type of players you surround Wall with will probably work well with Preldzic. I think he'd be a good player in the fast break.
I don't think it's a question of whether he'll be good at defense more so will he be competent. His instincts and length could really help him in this area if he focuses on what he should be doing as a defender.

I guess he could be the Slovenian Livingston as a big PG or point forward with Crawford and Young in the backcourt. I guess they could also go big with him at PG, Young at SG, Lewis at SF, seraphin at PF and McGee at Center. Also it is quite possible that Wall develops a legit jumper in the next couple years and having another playmaker on the court would be a good thing.

Was that him falling down on defense at around the 5:30 mark? He's a good Euro player who's just not athletic enough to play in the NBA. I do like the way he boxes out for rebounds.

Yup, he did fall on his butt. I don't know about the athleticism. I really don't. At 6'9 he does seem to have pretty good feet. Can he stay in front of Shawn Marion, Corey Maggette or Deng and the like? I doubt it but it's hard to for me to say until I see him play against that tier of athlete.
He's not as good as this guy but I see some Schrempf in his game. He's young and getting a lot better. At his age with the instincts and motor I'm not comfortable selling him short.

It wasn't just that play - which was really bad, btw. You can see that he's heavy legged - he can't change directions, and I don't think he'd stand a chance trying to guard anyone in the NBA. Nice jump shot, excellent offensive and rebounding fundamentals, just not an athlete.

On the championship video at about the 10:53 mark Emir showed pretty good explosion and acceleration on his cut to show for the inbound. Then he went almost full court in 6 sec while changing directions to avoid a defender in his path. At 6'9 that's pretty good.
I wanted to add this. This is a player at comparable hight and it took him about 5 sec to go coast to coast for a dunk.

Now he is regarded as one of the fastest players in the league and he's going at full speed. So, I can't buy into Emir being a non athlete. Whether he can play with the NBA athlete is yet to be seen.

Sorry, but there was no real explosion at that 10:53 mark, and he made a move that most guys in a YMCA league could make - and he didn't even finish - he passed off. It was a good fundamental play, but there wasn't anything particularly athletic about it. Let's agree to disagree. If he ever plays in the NBA, I will give you massive kudos.

Some good news for Emir Preldzic. FIBA did something they have never done and allowed Preldzic to play for Turkey the rest of his career. At the same time the news disappoints me in that he and Kanter are going to develop chemistry but won't be able to suit up for the Wizards in the future. I like Preldzic backing up Hedo and learning some things. That team is going to do some damage in Eurobasket this summer.

He is just upset we didn't get Kanter to pair with Preldzic.

Preldzic dominated this game on offense. Deng and the rest of Britain's defenders couldn't stop him. He hurt his leg in the 3rd qtr otherwise I think he would've had better numbers. Turks play Lithuania tomorrow and that's going to be a good game. Both fan bases are nuts in a good way.
