Game Thread: DET @ WAS 4/5/11

Post#1 » by nate33 » Mon Apr 4, 2011 4:07 am

I'm going to be traveling for most of the next 48 hours and didn't know if I'd be able to get the game thread up so I'll start it now.

As we can all see, I am cursed. The opposite of what I want is bound to happen. Which means, it's a pretty good bet that the Wizards will win Tuesday. I will be sacrificing chickens and performing various rituals before the lottery gods to try and shed this curse. Wish me luck.

Our first 3 game win streak since 2008? :o

I might be at the game if I get free tickets from a friend.

What's with all the winning lately. Two games in a row? Sheesh. The Wizards just love to tear our hearts out.

Two articles on the wiretap at the mo'

Wizards finish off season with chemistry & Stuckey benched for insubordination.

Pistons are a mess... and we are gelling. Looks like another Wiz victory...

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

How the hell did we end up in March again...???

Anyway, Wiz win... :(

With the way Wall, Crawford, Dray & McGee are playing, we might win allot more games than we bargained for...

SMH @ Nate. First he forces the Clipps game into double OT and now this.

I can't help but wonder if all this hair-pulling over the team not tanking is just silly. The Wizards won the lottery last season without the most ping-pong balls. The team that wins the lottery this year will probably not be the Cleveland Cavaliers. [Unless you believe in karma, in which case they will definitely win --though I don't see a Lebron James in this draft.]

These recent wins would be more impressive if the opponents were better, but that Charlotte team is fighting for a playoff spot and was trying to win. [At least, Matt Carroll was trying to win.] The tanking talk can be funny, but I don't really buy any of it because I don't think a few extra wins will have any real impact on what happens to our Wiz in the draft.

So, in summary: Go, Wiz!

Like it or not, it's not simply about the number of ping pong balls to win the lottery. It's also about position if your card is not in the top 3. I'd like the Wiz to be in the third position so if a team or two leapfrogs in the draft lottery them they'll still be picking in the top 5.

I pretty much agree with this. The intellectual side of me recognizes that more losses will help us in the lottery, but I can't help but root for the team to win right now. I'm really enjoying them compete. I wish Young and Booker were healthy so we could really see what this team can do when it's playing well.

**** tanking I want to win every game. The hoop gods will reward us for playing hard and trying to win.

Yeah, there's always a cynical side of me that says that Stern notices deliberate tanking efforts and punishes them accordingly in the lottery. Like that one year when we finished tied for worst record and ended up picking 5th.

So I root for the zards to show that they are legitimately trying to win so as not to bring out the wrath of Stern.

It could be argued that if we're winning with young players, their value is increasing at a ratio beyond what we were likely to gain towards the top of the lottery in what amounts to a crummy draft year.

Yeah, but I want to have my cake and win baking championships with it too. Is it too much to ask for us to leave our shonen anime style power-up for the summer? Really?

just went on Craigs list to see what the market for tix was like.

lots of nice sounding seats for sale at what I would think are
attractive prices. I've got a couple extras myself that I was
hoping to get something for but the market supply may be
close to saturation.

Has Monroe been getting playing time for the Pistons? Would be interesting to see how he and our front court match up, I know some people are high on Monroe on here.

Yep. Pistons fans love him and for good reason. He's been one of their most consistent players and (from what I've read/heard) hasn't caused a headache yet. I think they've officially moved from Stuckey to Monroe as "their guy".

I actually like Stuckey a lot. I believe Detroit was reaching for the stars thinking he could be a franchise player but I do believe he can be a big contributor.

Anyways, common sense says we should win so that probably means we'll get an L.

No worries, JWiz. The team is better now with Crawford. I do not really understand why, but they seem to be better without Nick, too. Flip does not have a guy who cannot play next to Wall (Hinrich) and he cannot use any excuse to play Yi extended minutes.

I think the young players like Crawford and Booker didn't lose enough games with them in the lineup to have tuned Flip out. McGee is still improving. Blatche appears to have gotten his mojo back. Jeffers with Crawford and no Lewis gives the Wizards quick, scrappy players who play with a lot of energy.

Flip if he returns cannot help but have his best season as Wizard coach next season.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.
