Wall Sets Goal To Be MVP Candidate By 2013

John Wall is optimistic that the Wizards will find the right pieces this offseason, but he has big plans for his team and himself.
“Next year, I just want to be in the playoffs,” Wall said.
“Everything I didn’t do good this year, you’re going to see me get better at next season, making jump shots, being more confident, less turnovers. But studying a lot, being a better defender, all those things. That’s the same thing Derrick said, ‘I want to be MVP.’ It might not happen next year, but at least by my third year, I want to be in the race.”

Thank you David Stern!
So...which lucky child from St. Luke's Children's Hospital are we sending as our representative next year?

Celtics fan here, congrats on Wall
Great player
Can't wait to see how he develops and hopes he stays in Washington to build a contender (unless he comes to Boston)

Rose before the season said: "Why can't I be the MVP, Why can't I be the best player in the league?"
I'm glad Wall is taking the same approach

The only thing that might hold him back is our record that year.

I have a feeling that Wall's going to start to shoot WAY more. That's just the vibe I'm getting from the interviews.

I hope not. Wall had about 13 FTA/36 minutes. That is roughly the same rate as Chris Paul and Deron Williams. I think that is about the right rate of shooting for him. Although he may be tempted to shoot more when his shooting improves, he also should have better(more efficient) scorers to set up.

I like what I'm hearing because in order for him to before the MVP, the team MUST BE a SUCCESS. I like the fact the he's hardworking and has goals set for himself. Now, Ernie needs to surrond this guy with players that have the same goals and desires, anything less should be shipped out.

Wall will be a top 10 player in this league within 3 years. Book it. He and Rose will be the dominant PGs of the East and I foresee a big time rivalry between them.

i hope he practices smarter, not just harder especially since defense is hard to work on by yourself. it's a weird mix of hustle, conditioned reflexes, and "big picture" meta-thinking.

I just want to see him become an average jump shooter, or even just a little below average. I don't really have any other concerns about his game. I had some major questions about his game back in January but he already answered them.

I would eventually like to see him learn to dominate defensively too, but I think we need more overall talent before that's going to happen. I can't really expect Wall to run the entire offense AND lead the defense for 40 minutes a night.
When we can afford to play him 35-36 mins, and he isn't carrying so much of the load, then I'll expect him to become a great man defender.

Just thinking out loud here and running with this; maybe we should s&t Nick Young to move up in the draft (if we can)?
Crawford has shown he can run the offense, he isnt the spot up shooter that Nick is and seems very, very streaky, but maybe he can develop into a good catch and shoot guy, its not like we want to win a load of games next season. But he can take the offensive load off Wall for a few plays to give him a breather.
I still prefer to keep Nick and use Craw as a 3rd guard, this is just an idea.
