Pine - Sent you a PM about the draft thread, lock this up if you have that coming up.

Make your case for your 3 picks (with back-ups) and predict what the Wiz FO will do.

Predictions what the Wiz will do:

6. BEA, Best Euro available. Whichever one drops. Likely Vesely since the others will go earlier.

18. Jeremy Tyler. They posted zero footage of his workout, Saturday workout with minimal media, no interview in the official vid, and reports suggested he was the best player at the workout -- but of course 'nobody really stood out...'

34. Nolan Smith or other back-up PG.

Assuming Kanter is gone....

6) Marcus Morris / Kemba Walker
18) Nikola Vucevic / Tobias Harris
34) Malcom Lee / Jeremy Tyler

@ 6 I agree Doc, I think Vesely is Ernie's guy if Enes and Jonas are unavailable (although I wonder if he'd take another young center). Ernie wanted to draft Vesely last year according to ESPN.

@ 18 Tyler.....??? possibly, we need to have someone in our pocket if someone throws crazy money at JaVale, we need an under-study for Shart badly, that may be the safer bet @ 18.

@34 Ernie will take whoever is the biggest faller at the position, hard to day who it will be right now, but I think the Wiz want winners like Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith, & Chandler Parsons.

I'm telling you, I'm not saying who I want, I'm saying what the Wiz will do.

Ironically they always show their hand by burying the guy they are most interested in. They never post video of the guy they like most. Always poormouth a guy if he's been talked up by local media.

Ernie commonly selects a guy earlier than the Mocks project him. And a guy like JTy who has lotto talent but character question marks has nevertheless been impressing people nation-wide in media interviews. You have to expect he's impressing front offices as well. If his red flags are eliminated then raw talent stands on it's own. Until he flamed out in Israel (headbutting a player for instance) he was a top 5 pro prospect. I suspect he's creeping up the charts on many scouting boards.

Ernie has never been scared to take a talent that has character q?-marks, going back to Latrell " put a little mustard on it" Sprewell. It's Ernie's philosophy to take a risk on a guy that other people are undervaluing.

If the Wiz need most a dominant two-way Big who ain't scared to bang, and they can't get him at 6, they'll pull the trigger for the best prospect they can, lower down. But they ain't waiting to 34 on the hopes that someone else ain't paying attention. Small forwards come out every year, it's the position with the most depth in the league right now (that and combo guards) but Bigs are harder to come by, every year.

Got to believe when JTy outjumped the Max Reach measuring stick, Ernie started scheming on how they could steal him. And when he shut down opposing Bigs in the defense drills and no one could score on him, Ernie started thinking who he could poison to ensure we landed the pick. GMEG loves raw talent.

Oh, and I'd agree at 34 they may take someone who fell. I suspect they won't sell the pick this year with Ted in the captains chair.

Personally I like Chandler Parsons. Though he really needs someone to rough him up a bit else there will be a squealing schoolgirl contingent at every game, bursting eardrums. If we land him and JTyler both then we'll have two prettyboys who think they're too cute. Possible trouble there.

Poor Dray Blatche will never get any play from the ladies then, even with his bionic teeth fixed. Back to Columbus Circle with you my friend...

Looking at the measureables only one guy heavier than Tyler has ever posted a higher max reach:

Fu-Shnickens Kazaam himself.

And this while Tyler is carrying over 13% body fat.

His maxvert was 12'0". Very good, but not incredible. Still, probably a decent swing for the fences type pick.

Very good while out of shape. Nobody in the dbase who reached higher had a heftier load of lard on them. Front offices look at that and wonder how he'd perform with top-level trainers fixing him. He's jumping 33.5" with more body fat than Kevin Love. Could he gain 2" more ups with a bit of muscle instead of blubber? If so that's Dwight Howard-type lift. Derrick Favors type athleticism.

Understood, I think your reasoning is pretty solid, I was just thinking out-loud about the 18th pick. I pretty-much agree with you and will add that I think we'll keep and use all three picks, especially if we get a good "faller" at 34.

6 - Marcus Morris (or Jonas V)
18 - Marcieff Morris (or Justin Harper)
34 - Reggie Jackson (or Rick Jackson)

I think this is as good a guess as any right now- I have a feeling that the price to move up is going to be just a little too high, and Vesely with his athleticism and mobility in transition just smells like a Grunfeld pick, especially now that we have Wall running those fast breaks. Not to mention there are multiple scouts out there (if you believe Chad Ford and David Aldridge) that really love him- in spite of his questionable hands and rebounding.

Re Tyler- the more I think about it, the more intrigued I am about him. There was a great article on his year in Japan HERE at nytimes.com. One of the things that impressed me was what he said about getting chewed out by his coach Bob Hill:

Before this game he yelled at me so hard. You know he’s not doing it because he doesn’t like you. He just wants you to do your best. That’s exactly what I need in my life.”

That's a kind of humility you wish you could hear from Blatche and McGee- and it also impressed me that everyone else they interviewed for that story- Bob Hill, his teammate Robert Swift, even Kobe's dad who used to be a coach for the team in Japan- they all seem to want the kid to succeed.

So maybe he'd be worth a shot at 18.

Vesely with the #6.

Tyler with the #18.

Nolan Smith with the #34.

Doc is right. They're going to go all upside with these picks, and these are going to be the guys with the most upside left at their respective picks.

Are these your picks as-well?

Yea -- like Doc, it's not what I want them to do....it's what I think they're going to do. And I think Vesely is their guy right now. They are going to swing for the fences on each pick because after the 4th overall pick, every player is pretty much a huge questionamark.

I'm probably swayed too much by what I want them to do to see what they will do, but my guess is:

#6 Kanter won't be available, so Valanciunas. If he's gone or pulls out of the draft, they trade down with Charlotte for the 9 and 19
if they trade down, #9 Marcus Morris
#18 Marshon Brooks
#19 Markieff Morris if they trade for this pick
#34 Iman Shumpert

6th - Traded for a higher pick either 2nd pick or unprotected first. If it is used Vesely is my tip.

18th - Biyombo
34th - Shelvin Mack

6th kanter in a tradeup. if not available Kawhi then Vesely in that order because kawhi's a more known quantity to me and can do those things we are hoping vesely can do in rebounding and defense.

18: I also say reach for jeremy tyler or trade back to get him so we can trade forward with the 34 pick for someone else. Either way best big available. If Buyombo falls pick him. If neither are available go with best pg available. In that case i'd select josh selby.

then last pick if we can trade back for jeremy tyler with the 18th in order to trade forward with the 34 pick i go with josh selby to make sure i select him. If he's gone i selcect malcolm lee if i havent selected a pg yet. If we selected a pg at the 18th spot i look to get someone like johnson or vucevic if they fell. try move forward to select them.

Either way A kanter/ tyler/ Selby combo is ideal and go free agency for a small forward
kawhi/ tyler/ selby
kanter/ tobias harris/ tyler is ok by me

I don't think this scenario is going to happen, but if it did, I'd be satisfied. All of these guys can play. Even Shumpert is a potential stud, although I don't think he's going to last until our 2nd rounder.
