I was always partial to Chuck's jazz medley, feat covers of "Go Go Swing,' "Midnight Sun," and "Moody's Mood For Love."

One of the lyrics named a lady I was with at the time. It went "_____" got a big ol' butt.

She did, too. :)

A) why isn't this in der musik thread?

B)Thread title: trick question since all go-go joints are the same dang thang. Can't stand that same old cowbell and whistle and plastic bucket beat, overandoverandover, and the yelling, the yelling man, good god with the inane yelling just stop it.

I s'pose it's better than live rap though, I never saw a good live hiphop show other than Outkast, or any random group of heads kickin it in a cypher banging a beat on a bus window. Okay, mid-career PE put on a good show, since Flav is insane and would do any random **** to get attention.

Same here Doc, people I knew in DC went on endlessly about the origins of Go Go etc etc.

Fact was it was the exact same beat, and AWFUL style street music people ignore in other cities. Cowbells, buckets and drums........with the same damn rhythm in every song. Really?

Respect to DC though, the people love it........but there is a reason why it never went outside of the DC area. And it's not superior taste.

I'm with the above posters: I never got into it because it all sounds more or less the same to me. That said, I loved Rare Essence's Body Snatchers when I was in my mid teens. But, that's because it was the first song in the genre I ever heard, so the inherent sameness of it all hadn't gotten to me yet.

Outrage mixed it up a little with go go, reggae, and funk beats. They weren't the same each time out. I think they had a token (and bad a$$) white guy on bass, and were very high energy.

I agree that sound would fast get old, but if you were there to party or score, who would care?

I go with Drop the Bomb. I like the sentiment.

Inflated rents get old really fast too.

But people still keep paying them.

More people keep on coming and coming,

A beautiful postmodernist haiku-with-vinyl-siding piece. It belongs in the poetry thread.

Go Go anticipated the DC real estate boom. Gotta be some songs in there. "Should we drop the bomb on Penn Quarter?"

Junkyard Band -- "Take Me Out to See Junkyard"

Classic '89 flavor when go-go was nice!

Just found a link to a great go-go documentary if you have the time to watch.

To some, I suppose jam-bands like Phish, Dave Matthews & The Dead all have the same beat or sound the same. I can't pick a fave Go-Go tune right now.
