Javaris Crittenton faces a homicide charge in the death of Jullian Jones, according to Carlos Campos, APD spokesman.

Jones was walking with others near 2915 Macon Drive in southwest Atlanta around 10 p.m. Aug. 19 when she was shot, Campos said.

Police believe Crittenton fired shots from a black Chevrolet Tahoe, Meadows said. There were several witnesses to the incident, he said.

Jones, a mother of four, was struck in the hip and later died during surgery. Two men walking with Jones fled and were not injured. Investigators believe one of those men was the intended target.

It is an atrocity that an innocent woman and a mother of 4 is dead. If Crittenton is guilty I hope justice is served swiftly.

I commented in this forum day one of the whole gun gate fiasco that I believed there was more than joking going on between him and Gilbert. As for Crittenton, I will never understand evil combined with stupid. Here's a guy with some ability and talent firing a weapon into a crowd of people and killing some kids' mom.

EDITED: (Removed my last comment as it was not necessary or appropriate.)

Sometimes you have to calm down and look at the big picture and not get lost in the moment.

God knows I have been in plenty of situations where I could have easily ended up behind bars had I made the wrong decision but looking back on it now it would not have been worth it.

Jeebus H. Christmas.

You (Javaris) think it's okay just to fire a gun in public willy nilly? Respect the freaking weapon, you nutjob.

Seemed like a pretty minor, insignificant low risk, high reward trade at the time... An unlikely to materialize 1st round pick for a guy with potentially great upside.

In fact, we got handed, it seems, a bucket of evil. One dead mother of four, one gimpy superstar's career in DC all but over....

Coulda shoulda woulda... Gawd, what would I give to rewind the clock and have that trade never happen.

Wow. Gil messed with the wrong dude, looking at this he may have gotten off lucky. I had read somewhere that Critt put on a pleasant front but he was not one to mess with. I guess it was true. Dude is just plain crazy.

You gotta figure Gil's ass clenched up pretty tight when he heard the news.

Wow, talk about tragic. This dude is so self-centered that he shoots into a filled car with the hope hitting someone who robbed him, not caring who else he hurt. The tragedy is far more about kids who no longer have a mother, not this guy who threw his life away, assuming he really is guilty.

I haven't been on RealGM for a while, so this is the first that I have heard of this story. I think we all knew that something was a little screwy in dude's head after the locker-room thing with Gil, but this shows (if he is actually guilty) that he is one messed up guy. We (well, at least I) all love hip-hop and the whole gangsta image that is so often tied to black culture and the NBA, but there is a point at which bravado and appearances have to give way to doing the right thing. As someone else said, I have been in situations where I could have ended up locked up if I had pulled a weapon or done something stupid, but I think that for at least most of us, we understand that you can only push things so far before it gets into crazy territory.

As has been said so far in this thread, the tragic story is not that some spoiled young millionaire has flushed his career down the toilet. That doesn't matter one little bit. The true tragedy is that 4 kids are now without their mother, and that situation can't be changed with a "I'm sorry, I didn't mean for that to happen" or any other apology that he can offer. RIP to the woman.

Definitely a very sad situation for the family left behind by the woman.

This is exactly why Gil's infraction was so serious. Yes, he was playing around and his guns were apparently not loaded. However, it appears that the type of person the prank was played is capable of murder.

Wow. This is out of control.

Dude, turn yourself in. WTF.

Yeah, I agree w/ Dandridge -- this is precisely why you don't play around with guns.

Of if you do, shoot yourself, not someone else!

He was arrested at the airport boarding a flight to Atlanta. That actually seems consistent with a plan to turn himself in, but I can understand the FBI not wanting to take any chances.

Crittenton was robbed by two teenagers when leaving a barbershop on the evening of April 21st.

One teenager held Crittenton at gunpoint and ordered him to "give me what you got," he told police. He said he handed over a $25,000 black diamond necklace, a $30,000 black diamond watch, an iPhone and $25 cash, according to the report.

Crittenton's defense attorney Eldridge Suggs said his client wasn't in the vehicle that shot Jones and was eager to clear his name.

An "It wasn't me" defense. Sounds like something made for television.

Crittenton's had about a week to come up with a story. I believe Crittenton's alleged weapon won't ever turn up. (Gun gate showed that much). Probably none of his associates will say much to incriminate him and certainly not themselves. Or will they under testimony and possible perjury charges? What it will likely come down to IMO is the word of teenage thieves and associates, plus any key witnesses, versus Crittenton and his (probably) high-priced attorney. If somebody reputable steps up and testifies, or if the weapon is found, or if his own people give him up; then Crittenton is in trouble. Otherwise, it's their word against his and "he wasn't there" according to him.

My first impression: If they don't find the gun, and his boys lie well enough, Crittenton might walk. There is obviously not any video or hard evidence so far. He's had time to get his story together and to get his legal team together. In the judicial system, money talks and big money clients walk, especially when guilty.

Should be VERY interesting.

I wonder if Crittenton spoke before shooting (assuming he did it)? Did he do anything that could help others identify him positively as the shooter?

Wonder what Gil thought about all of this, when the Gil / Crit issues went down it sounded like Gil was messing around but we know now that Crit would have pulled the trigger. WOW....
