Bring back Arenas thread! We all deserve 2nd chance

Gilbert bought guns into the locker room. He made a mistake. Does that mean he doesn't deserve a second chance. Gilbert is a hero to many of the wizards organization and chose the wizards when he could have easily stay in golden state. He gave us his best years and is still the heart of DC basketball in many fans eyes.
Arenas paid his debt to society and only top management arrogance is the reason for not bringing arenas back. We had an excuse before because he was not worth his contract but once Grunfeld is gone, there is no reason to not sign the heart of DC to a reserve role for the wizards. Gilbert was excellent in the community and his his hour upon hours living in the gym eventually wore away his knees. Gilbert work put untold amount of hours so that the fans of washington could experience what it was to be a winner.
After Grunfeld is gone, there should be nothing standing in the way of bringing back the heart of DC for bench role with the wizards.
Everyone deserves a second chance, especially the hero of DC basketball and the only player to get us to the second round of the playoffs through sheer will power.
No Gilbert wasn't a leader in terms of personality, but his work ethic was unmatched and we need that type of work ethic and the years of experience playing point guard at a high level here in DC for John Wall. Taking away arenas and probably even hinrich were very very poor moves in the longterm in terms of developing our young players.
So in closing, Bring back Arenas and tell the media to everyone deserves a second chance if they want to make a big deal of it. Leonsis don't be afraid like Grunfeld.

The are no second chances in American basketball.
But seriously, all ifs, ands, or buts aside...sure, why not?

This team still suffers from the after-effects of Gilbert's "leadership". Arenas got away with his general quirkiness and shot-jacking because at least he was a gym rat who made shots. Unfortunately, everyone else in the locker room only managed to emulate his goofiness and shot-jacking, without the work ethic.
He's the last player this team needs in the locker room.

I'd be in favor of no Arenas and no Arenas threads.

I still love Gilbert. He's the best player this team's had in my lifetime. I'll ALWAYS root for Gilbert!

Someone close to the team told me that several members of the organization practically begged Gil to get counseling and he never did. Given his history of erratic behavior, I don't think the organization would (or should) touch him.

Admit it, deep down, you know you want a Non-Stop, Floor to Ceiling, 24-7, All-Arenas-All-the-Time thread. If Arenas be the food of Arenas, play on.

I don't know about Gil coming back, WD.
If he does come back, this can be the Verizon Center's new Gilbert Arenas intro music:
WARNING: MATURE LYRICS (Don't listen past 30 seconds unless you want to hear the worst of it)

Won't happen because too many bridges have been burned.
Remember when we had to get rid of Gilbert ASAP because he was going to hurt John Wall's development?
Well you can add John Wall to the list of players who played the best basketball of their careers playing next to Arenas. Wall's gotten progressively worse since Arenas left.
Yep. Check the numbers.

Without Arenas around, there was no one to teach Wall how to shoot.

Right. Thank goodness we left that to our brain surgeon/rocket scientist veteran core of Young, Blatche and McGee.

This organization is doing what they should be doing. That started by firing EFJ, then clearing contracts but the major piece of it was the day they shipped Gil out of here. That was only last year.
Be patient.
Moving forward. Not moving backward.
They need to go throw the pain they are going through right now. Don't let it get you down. This is a different kind of building process then you have ever seen this franchise do. It's only really been two years and what you are seeing now is still part of the low part of it. They are just looking over the pieces they might keep. All the bigger more fun moves are still ahead. They have caps space and assets to turn it around. Have patience.

The whole Gilbert would ruin John Wall's development was 100% BS...
Without the shot jacking, there's a lot Gilbert knows that he could have lended to Wall over the course of a season. With that said, the Gil era is done... maybe he can come back in like 8 years or something

Hinrich was signed with Gil still on the roster AFTER Wall was selected first overall. That said it all right there. Arenas was never meant to come anywhere near Wall IMO. Washington awkwardly welcomed Gilbert back from his suspension by making Wall the team captain.
Even though Gilbert had a good rapport with Wall and so did Hinrich last season, there's no way Arenas comes back to DC. No way. No way Gil would want to come back IMO.
WD, in basketball only sense it makes a whole lot of sense to have Gil help Wall. Arenas has forgotten more about being an elite NBA PG than Wall knows. Gilbert could change speeds, shoot with deep range, finish at the rim pre-injury, post up smaller guards, whatever. He was a complete offensive machine at PG.
But he burned bridges and the Wizards pretty much nuked Gil. The one good thing they did do is send him to his friend, Otis Smith in Orlando with some hope. Arenas is done or he'd still be there. I don't see any way Gil comes back with much game.

Great post. I agree with all of it except for Arenas being done. They had to use the amnesty to open up cap room/trade possibilities with Dwight in flux.

As soon as I posted that I came accross an article with quotes from Nick saying Gil got Kobe treatment on his knees, he says they feel great, and he has lost a lot of weight. If he can beat arthritis (i have serious doubts) and can get that lift back in his legs, I'm wrong and Gil will be back, JJ.

after reading the bits of his blog about his childhood, his dad, and how he handled reuniting with his mom, i thought the same thing.

Yep. Check the numbers.
Feb 2011 16/8
March 2011 18/7
April 2011 19/6
Each of those months he shot 40% or better.
Two of Walls best games last season were his 2nd and 3rd games where he dropped 28/9 and 29/13 shooting well over 50%. Arenas didn't play in either of them.
