Edwin Ubiles to the Wiz

Washington is expected to call-up Edwin Ubiles from the Dakota Wizards over the weekend, according to a league source. The Wizards had a pair of roster spots open following this week's trade along with the release of Hamady Ndiaye last month.

Ubiles has been one of the best prospects in the D-League all season as the 25-year-old swingman is averaging 20.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 50 percent from the field. That comes on the heels of his being one of the more important players on the Puerto Rican National Team that won a gold medal at last summer's Pan-Am Games.

Those accomplishments are quite impressive for the former member of the Siena Saints considering this is his first full season of professional basketball after sitting out the majority of last season with a stress fracture in his right tibia.

Good News for the tank, hopefully he'll be a keeper.

Thanks for breaking the news FAH1223

the funny part might be that he may very well be an upgrade over jordan crawford. Isn't Morris Almond in the D-league, or is it already a concluded he had no business being in the NBA?

So will the wizards get him or not?

They should wait until after tomorrow's game and sign him in time for practice on Tuesday. No point in signing him to a 10 day today considering we have two days off until our following game.

Lamar Odom is stinkin' it up in Dallas.

How about Andray Blatche and Chris Singleton for Odom?

Dallas has a history of making lemonade out of Wizard lemons. Blatche could be great next to Dirk and he has already played with Brendan. Washington could use the extra roster spot to sign Gerald Green, Edwin Ubiles, or Morris Almond from the D-League.

Odom is in a funk but I think being asked to take a leadership role around young guys would jump start him. Odom is the perfect SF/PF for this team. He can run, rebound, and make shots in the paint. Wall is playing his best and would be the type guard to really make Odom look good.

I would have preferred Blatche be moved, but Nene's a great guy who, hopefully, can return to form and stay healthy. Nene won't be unprofessional or unmotivated like Odom might be.

So, returning to Ubiles, I had him rated higher than my guy Mo Almond because he was more efficient in D-League play. He will be a lot more wise with shot selection than Crawford. I don't know that he's going to be selfish enough to take and make enough shots to get more than a 10-day, but I'm confident that he's better than JC.

Ubiles is a Puerto Rican national. The Wizards are really becoming a team with an international flavor--I like that.

GOOD MOVE!

(Trivia: Wonder where Party John Ramos is these days? The last Puerto Rican National team player didn't stick with the Wiz.)

I hope if this kid doesn't stick they give Almond the next 10-day.

PS -- I am biased. Kenny Hayes, SG, is probably the best prospect the Wizards could add out of the D-League.

FWIW Edwin Ubiles is 25 years old. Gerald Green is 26. Morris Almond turned 27 last month.

Not sure if the ship has sailed on Almond or not, but I expect he could be called up to the NBA at least once.

My hope is that Witt is tired of Crawford's shot-jacking (although he doesn't seem to bench him because of it) and that he will really give Ubiles a legit shot at sticking around. It would be nice to have an experienced player on the roster to replace Nick and Mo when he's gone.

Ubiles was in-uniform tonight, perhaps we'll get a look at him the next game.

I'll take things that end with "nubiles" for a thousand

Hmmm...this may be a good signing. Checking out Ubiles on youtube, and it looks as though he has a decent skillset as a scorer. His jumpshot is smooth, and he has good size and length. I think lateral quickness is his problem, as he just doesn't look very quick and won't be beating too many people off the dribble.

He's going to have to learn how to contribute in ways other than scoring if he wants to get playing time. There aren't going to be opportunities for him to iso on the wings like there were in the d-league. We'll see...he does have the physique. I'm not sure about the fit.

Wizards want extended look at Edwin Ubiles

The up-coming games should be interesting with Nene in the front court and Ubiles on the wing.
