The Off-Season Thread, Non-Draft Discussion

Regarding a Wizard shooting coach or lack there-of from the draft discussion.

Wittman on John Wall’s improvement:
Everybody’s focused on his shooting. That’s going to be critical. For him to develop his shot, mainly, his confidence in his shot. If you don’t play with confidence, it’s hard to be good at anything you do. That’s the main thing with John is getting him comfortable in what we’re trying to do in terms of repetition, repetition. This summer he’s already been hard at it and that develops your confidence and you see it in people throughout the course of the NBA, that couldn’t shoot when they came in and just continued to work at it. So obviously, John’s got to continue to do that and continue to grow as a leader of this team. He’s got to continue to grow in terms of grasping hold and being the leader that I thought I saw emerging from him. He showed me things that he was doing at the end of the year that you never know a point guard is going to be able to do and John started showing that, and to me that’s huge. So that’s got to continue, as well as the other things we talked about from a basketball standpoint
.

Our off-season plans..
Grunfeld on how this offseason will be different:
We’ll be able to work with our players this summer. Last summer, we had the lockout, we weren’t able to have any contact. We weren’t able to work out and we had so many young players, so that’s going to be a difference and having a full training camp and having Nene for the whole year, is also going to be a big plus for us. We still have a lot of work to do. We know that and we have to build on some of things we improved on last year.

Don't worry, Tapscott's got everything covered

Honestly, if Tapscott had a hand in Kev's development then kudos.

We just really gotta get rid of Blatche. Seen the article at bulletsforever.com about him in that mens party league?? This dude is such a clown.

Not sure things have gotten so slow that we need another thread for this.

This is pretty much topic related.

We have a draft thread.

We have a playoff thread.

A FA thread.

We have several player threads.

three coaches threads.

We have a line ups thread.

We have a trade thread
viewtopic.php?f=35&t=1176611

... but where do we sign? I think I'd replace Jan with Zeller if he were on the board @ 10.
Okafor would be expiring the next year and would be very tradeable.

I don't see why New Orleans would make that trade. Booker and Vesely are fine, but they'd be swapping Okafor's 2 years for 3 years of Blatche. And why would they want Blatche anywhere near Davis?

Ted has been reading these threads, Realgm has power :D Let's see what happens this summer.

we will invest in additional coaches and development staff because we believe in taking a strong view of building infrastructure to support our players and our franchise. We have been investing in statistical analytics as well as in-house technology and have made additional investments in scouting.

Can't for the life of my find the offseason FA's thread... if a mod wants to move this then thats fine.

I'm assuming the last roster spot is for Roger Mason Jr... but are there any decent veteran PG free agents this year? Would be good to get a guy in on the tail end of their career who wouldnt mind being a backup and taking more of a mentoring role.

^^^ With Splitter, Nene, and Varejao Brasil has some legit size in the frontcourt. I'll be interested to watch how they do.

I'm mostly interested in the success of the French and Brazil teams in the olympics. I know it sounds un-patriotic, but I'd rather root for KSer and Nene than Lamar freaking Kardashian or Queen James.

I'm actually warming up to the idea of bringing back Kirk Hinrich. Wall seemed to like playing with him, and he's a solid vet who knows the team and would fit right in, and can play both G spots.

If we were to sign Hinrich, along with Mason and Evans, that's a pretty solid group of vets along with Ariza, Nene and Okafor to mentor what looks to be a group of young players with a good mindset and willingness to work in Wall, Mack, Beal, Crawford, Singleton, Vesely, Booker and Seraphin.

A person familiar with the Wizards who requested anonymity because Evans is unsigned, said the team wanted to bring Evans back -- as a front-office executive, a role Evans wants to embrace in the future. Just not now.

Mo in the FO, Teds desire or Ernie's?

My guess is Ted's, but more so just as an act of kindness and loyalty, demonstrating a commitment to current and future Wizards players that we take care of our own when their playing careers conclude.

I think it's more than "kindness and loyalty." Evans was vice president of the NBA players association and has likely shown the Zards and other teams that he's both smart and a leader. The Zards may rightfully see Mo as someone with a real future in the basketball business so why not try to get him on your front office team now.

Yeah, Evans is a smart dude. He's going to end up in someone's front office, or on a coaching staff.
