Great stuff here. We will never have competitors like this again. Players hating each other made for better, more competitive games. Nowadays, everyone wants to be buddy buddy with each other and hangout after games and it's disgusting.

This documentary made me miss the last great era of NBA basketball.

What you said above is true but be careful because there are some people on this forum who will accuse you of living in the past.

It was pretty awesome and the only thing I thought about after is how much play those guys must have gotten while in Barcelona.

I watched some of it. Some good stuff there.

-The Dream Team losing it's first scrimmage to the college kids. Coach K saying Daly deliberately threw game keeping Jordan on the bench.

-Stockton walking around with a camera pretending to be a tourist.

-Barkley with a few good quotes as usual.

I disagree, what is wrong with playing with friends? That's the way it should be, creates a sense of community and conformity.

IMO when one is angry they aren't fully in control of themselves and can become very irrational. When someone is calm and happy they usually perform better.

And here is why the NBA Sucks today compared to the 80's and 90's.

The special was great, I really miss the real NBA. Those NBC Saturday/Sunday triple headers, players who cared more about winning than their brand, promoting teams not just star players.

Only seen pieces of it but Im glad to have grown up watching alot of those guys. Barkley & Iverson may have been the 2 best P4P talents in NBA history. AI just for what he accomplished while having the worst work ethic in the history of the league.

I just wondered what he couldve been if he had great work ethic. Then Barkley for him to be 6'4 and dominate the Frontcourt like he did is still maybe the most remarkable thing ever in the NBA. A crazy physical beast.

You saw alot of funny quotes with Barkley in the Doc but one they didnt show is something he said that had me laughing after the fact. I think it was during the time where our US teams were sucking and losing with Pierce and those guys. The other Coutries had just gotten so good because of what they learned from playing against us.

Im paraphrasing but Barkley said something like, when they 1st came over to the Olympics, all the teams & Countries wanted to get pictures and have them autograph there shoes. He said when they came back the other Countries were like "take those shoes & shove them up your ass".

Basically he was saying that they use to be in awe of them and they were like stars to them but now they wanna kick our butt and dream there whole life about beating us and being better than us.

Wow

That really brought back memories.

I learned something watching that I hadn't realized. They really did teach the world how to play the game and it has transformed the league as we know it today. So many more international players.

It was really nice to see how they bounded together and became friends from the experience. So many great players. I had also forgotten it was Magics come back and his and Larrys grand finally.

Glad I got to watch that.

I enjoyed the doc as well. I wish it had been longer, but they may not have had the footage to support it.

The main point that stuck with me was the reminder of Jordan's primacy. The "recency effect" is so prevalent in sports, and people forget how unbelievably dominant Michael Jordan was. Many of today's stars are literally not old enough to remember Jordan at his best. Durant was what -- 3 or 4 -- in 1992? The segment which Magic (and Larry) essentially conceding that MJ was top dog was awesome. I also loved the STockton segment walking through the town square, unnoticed.

That team is the best collection of names in NBA history. It;s a shame Howard and Rose are hurt because I thought that this year's team could actually be better.

Absolutely not. The mere presence of Magic Johnson made that team better than any team the U.S. could put together now. Magic is simply the best point guard to ever play the game, with Stockton also being a top 5 point guard. The guard play back then between Magic/Stockton/Jordan/Drexler was simply unmatchable. You couldn't put together 4 guards nowadays with that much ability if you tried.

Very well done. It was interesting to see how much attention Barkley got and how little Stockton got - and seeing the contrasts between good Barkley and bad Barkley. Magic - there will never be anyone remotely like him, imo. Jordan was easily the best player and a freak of nature, but Magic made that group magic.

Magic had been out of the NBA for two seasons when the Olympics rolled around. CP3 today was better than Magic in 92. Probably Deron Williams too. EVen if the overall guard play of the 92 team was better (I'm not convinced), it wasn't better enough to make up for the other talent and athleticism disparities between the two teams.

Lebron ,Durant and Melo would have rendered Bird (and Mullin) unplayable and given Pippen everything he could handle and more.

Howard and Chandler have have been as good or better than Ewing and Robinson, especially defensively.

Malone and Barkley would have held their own, but they too would have had a tough time with the combos of Bosh, Lebron, Durant, etc.

when you say this team would be better, are you speaking of era for era or head to head? There is no way in hell that a guy like Chandler could compete with Ewing & Robinson.

Also, Magic was definitely better than Paul & Williams. He hadnt been retired for 2 years but only 1. MJ was retired for a year and a half when he came straight back to drop 55 against NY. He even had 51 for us after being retired for longer and being 40. You have to remember that Magic was off for a year but 2 years before he was the MVP of the league that year and even in that year before he averaged 19.4, 12.5, & 7rpg so he was still very good

It's true that a number of those Dream Teamers were past their primes, so today's team would certainly have a clear athlecism advantage. But in a 7 game series, I'd absolutely take the original Dream Team because of heart and defense.

Another factor would be how the game would be officiated. If they played by today's defensive rules (restricted area, flagrant fouls, no handchecking, etc) then I give the current players more of a shot. But if you let them play like the NBA was played in 1992, I gotta go with the Dream Team hands down.

I'm saying the Dream Team as they were in '92 vs a fully healthy team of current players -- NOT career totals, legacies, impacts, etc. I'm just saying which team would have actually been better on the court.

ok, thats cool. Its a fact that players are bigger, stronger, & faster now but I still wouldnt guarantee it just yet. Some of the guys you named werent athletic but the 92 team still had enough atheletes to put 5 guys out there at once to compete. Magic, MJ, Pippen, Barkley, Robinson. You still have Stockton, Drexler, Malone, Ewing on the bench. Thats a pretty good team athletically.

Physically, today's players could probably match up with the Dream Team, but mentally, the Dream Team had such a swag factor advantage that I don't think a 7 game series would have even been close. By the 4th quarter of game 6, you'd see Jordan and Magic laughing on the bench watching young L8ner finally get some PT.
