it seem like most Wizards fans on this site feel that the Wizards are ready for a run at a deep playoff position.

That means, going for the win, rather than tanking.

well if thats the case, than who would be better starting for that run, Crawford or Beal?
Who should have the most time on the floor for a playoff push between the two?

Start Beal from day 1... Might as well get Crawford used to the idea of either playing off the bench or finding somewhere else to jack up shots.

In some ways, Crawford is the most effective backup PG (in other ways not, but not a lot to choose from). Until the backcourt depth is addressed, he's probably the best 3rd guard, and coming off the bench, it's a little easier to tailor his minutes to matchups and yank him if he's going off the deep end.

Without question the answer should be Beal, and I like Crawford a lot.

Craw is an ideal combo guard. He should be the first guy off the bench if Beal or Wall are struggling. We've seen Crawford's playmaking on good days can even rival that of Wall. He's also a dynamic scorer that can change the complexion of a game and give you a boost (can also go the opposite direction, especially if he doesn't learn to display any discretion in shot selection).

Beal plays at a pace that will compliment Wall beautifully. When we run, he'll be right there, but in a halfcourt set he's already shown a good sense of timing.

Beal by default.

I would also start Beal day 1. The best way to build Beal's confidence is to play him with Wall so he will get plenty of open looks. He's more likely to be overwhelmed if he has to handle the ball a lot on second team, because he is playing with whatever scrub, backup PG the Wizards put on the court.

Who should finish the game is the real question. I'd rather have Beal for his defense and his effect on the offensive flow. If we need a lot of points towards the end of the game, throw Wall/Craw/Beal out there with Nene/Okafor.

He was the only one left on the team that didn't realize he couldn't make a shot.

This year is important for Crawford. It is also important for Wall.

You make a good point. Wall played like ass to start last year and his shot was pretty bad most the year. He just wasn't a good efficient PG at various stages of the season.

Crawford does some things really well like drive and create. He played well during curtain stretches but he has a problem with the long ball and shot selection. Things that can get fixed. He is still a very young player. He is an interesting combination of skills that actually fits well with Wall and Beal.

He has room to improve as do Wall as do lots of other players on the team. One things I do like about Crawford on this team is his edge. Now that the team has remove the knuckheads look back over the roster and see how his personality actually fits petty well. Crawford is more of an interesting personality for this group now. I like the mature personality thing they have changed toward but you don't want a team that is to vanilla.

Yeah crawford may have been the leading scorer but that was only because he was the only one who could hit a shot occasionally. I think crawford at best is our backup, although personlly id like him better off of the team.

I would be very surprised if Crawford isn't starting on day 1. There is no reason to rush 19 year old Beal. Let him get acclimated to the NBA game slowly. If he beats Crawford out of the starting spot quickly then fine.

But if you throw Beal out there from Day 1 and he struggles things could get awkward.

Agreed for the most part, however I would consider starting RDB for the sake of Walls development as well. I think we all agree that for Wall to improve, the team needs shooters to space the floor.. something the starting group lacks if JC is sharing the backcourt with Wall.

Crawford was a "top scorer" on the team because he shot a lot. Unfortunately, he was one of the least efficient "shoot a lot" players in league history.

Since the NBA implemented the 3pt shot in 1979-80 there have been 930 player seasons in which a player received at least 1500 total minutes and had a usage rate of 25% or higher. Crawford is 23rd from the BOTTOM in individual offensive rating (individual points produced per 100 individual possessions).

During that span, there have been 851 player seasons with an individual offensive rating at least 3 points per 100 possessions better than Crawford.

If we limit the look to players in their first two seasons, there have been 121 player seasons fitting the criteria above. Crawford ranks 108th on that list.

Virtually anyone in the NBA could score as many points as Crawford did last season if he shot as frequently.
