I haven't been impressed with him much since he left LAL; I'd guess SIngleton beats him out for the starting SF spot this year. In Ariza's favor, he's got better handles and is less likely to get smoked in the open court; in Singleton's favor, his 3pt% last year is already better than Ariza's, he's a stronger post defender and rebounder, and he's only in his second year with some potential for improvement while Ariza is unlikely to have much.

However, even if I'm right he should get some time off the bench as Singleton continues to make benchable mistakes or run into situations problems assuming Martell Webster doesn't finally start living up to his draft hype and beat them both out.

^ I disagree with almost everything you wrote. It's fair to not be impressed since his LAL days. But that's about all I can agree on.

He's in a completely different world than Chris Singleton as far as offensive abilities. And he's a better defender too.

Yes, Singleton in theory has more room to grow, solely because he's younger. That's about it.

Agreed. Don't be fooled by raw 3P percentages. Ariza had a higher ORtg on a much higher usage rate than Singleton and he's certainly a better defender.

Singleton's ORtg was 97 on an anemic USG% of 11.5. He shot only when completely wide open, and still missed a ton and passed even less.

Ariza had an ORtg of 100 on a USG% of 18.4. Not good numbers to be sure, but still much better than Singleton. Ariza also has an Assist% 3 times higher than Singleton's.

Singleton needs to improve dramatically if he is to take the starting spot from Ariza. If anybody takes Ariza's starting spot, my money is on one of the shooters: Webster or Martin. I don't think Singleton will play much at all unless there are injuries (or if he has improved a ton in the offseason). The best thing that can be said about Singleton is that he's only a 2nd year player and his rookie year deserves an asterisk thanks to the lockout.

Ariza has a bad rap now because he's overpaid. He is still solid if he is in the right role.

Oh boy, if Singleton beat out Ariza and Webster for the starting spot this year, I would just be tickled pink.

That would mean his shooting had greatly improved and his defense was a little improved too. Would be another young guy to add to our young guy core.

I dont think anyone beats out Ariza this year though. If i had to pick a horse i'd probably back Singleton though, but only because Webster is garbage and Cartier, while good in his role, just isnt starting SF material.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.
