Mods, feel free to merge this into the free agents thread.

The Dallas Mavericks announced today they have waived guard Josh Akognon. Akognon was signed as free agent on September 27.

Akognon (5-11, 185) saw action in three preseason games for the Mavericks. He averaged 2.3 points in 3.7 minutes per contest.

The Petaluma, Calif., native started his collegiate career at Washington State University before transferring to California State University, Fullerton. As a senior, Akognon was named Big West Conference Player of the Year after averaging 23.9 points per game.

The Mavericks’ roster now stands at 15 players

I feel extremely strongly Josh Akognon is better than any G on the Wizards roster not named Wall or Beal.

He has a great track record from NCAA ball, Europe, and has been a major star in China. He dominated Vegas Summer League. I am positive this guy is a terrific talent.

Though he’d shown the ability to make 3-pointers and his hustle was off the charts, Josh Akognon has been waived by the Mavericks, bringing their roster down to the maximum 15 players.

Akognon, out of Cal State-Fullerton, had played in China last season.

Akognon had a realistic attitude when he came into the Mavericks’ camp.

“I kind of knew what I was coming into,” he said before Wednesday’s game against Phoenix. “I wanted to get the experience and get the feel of what camp was like. I’m blessed to be in a situation with a Plan A and a Plan B. I’ll just keep playing and see what happens.”

Akognon was the last non-guaranteed player on the roster to be waived. He will have options about whether to play overseas again, hope for an NBA team to call him or play in the NBA Development League, perhaps in Frisco with the Texas Legends.

There are always players who take a while to make the NBA. Avery Johnson took a while. John Starks took a while. Earl Boykins took a while.

Akognon is in the same class of players as the guys above.

He can't be worse then Price, so why not? At least he has some upside.

CCJ, we've been on the exact same page EARLY with Millsap, Blair and Faried. After doing some research, have to agree the guy seems hungry/talented/good fit.

Much higher motor than Mack/Price/Pargo with something to prove. Only thing Mack seems he wants to prove is he won't last beyond his rookie contract.

Look, if the Wizards weren't going to bring in Scott Machado, they certainly aren't going to bring in Akognon.
