*Edit*: what a pointless trade if it actually happened. I don't think there would be any financial reasons for it, and Caron isn't really an upgrade over Ariza at this point. The only thing it would serve to do is add a player that may not be too happy they are being traded from a legitimate contender to a non-contending team. Why open yourself to the possibility of adding yet another disgruntled player?

as much as I used to like Caron, I'm happy for the time being to keep Ariza

Contracts expire the same time - after next year. Given age and this team, I'm happy the trade didn't happen. Shows that Ariza has some value. If Ernie was able to get the Clips to throw in a pick, then I could see doing it.

In my view, they should have never let him go to begin with. I always said CB was the one of Gil, CB and AJ they needed to keep. Trade the other two for assets ( before Gil injury and max ). Would have been a nice feel good story having him come back after all the mess got cleaned up but..?

Why would you bring him back now for Trevor A 26. He is 32 years old making 8M.

Not sure that would have been a very good move. Now on one hand, CB would be part of the leadership core more so then Trevor A is. But he isn't as good a defender and he is getting kind of old compared to a 26 year old Trevor A. Maybe he would be a better mentor to a new draftee. Now sure what they were thinking. One its face without knowing more, I think that would have been the wrong move.

Lateral move at best. If a pick was involved, I would be a little more upset however, Butler costs more, is 5 years older and doesn't really offer anything long term.

I don't think Butler is as good at this point in time.

What a **** joke if that report is remotely accurate. You've got a great asset that contenders want, a long wing defender that can contribute offensively, and you're going to give him up for a player you dumped (rightfully, IMO, despite the championship) years ago?

Ted needs to save EG from himself.

I love Butler. I'd rather he stay in LA where he can win.

Ariza will be more valuable next year as an expiring contract for a contender who wants to add another perimeter defender.

I just don't see the reasoning. I'd like to expound upon that more but it's pretty self-explanatory. Much like all of the other EG trades.

As a founding member of the fire Grunfeld movement, I understand this proposal, the Wiz need offense and depth at that position (Butler/Webster). Singleton would have returned to his role as defender in-training.

From a balancing standpoint it would have make-sense and in-therory would help us in our one-year shot at a playoff run next year....kinda like the Foye/Miller shot but w/o giving up a big asset. I wouldn't have done the trade, but it at-least makes some sense.

I just don't see Caron, let alone any player in that position, being happy with a trade like this. To go from a starter on a top-5 team to a bench player on a bottom-5 team would be a blow to his ego and his chase for a ring. I know I'd be pissed.

The front office still loves Caron. But doing this trade would be dumb if a pick wasn't involved. If a 1st round pick was involved, I could see the rationale but straight up? I don't see why you'd do it. Ariza is younger and the better defender.

Ariza will have more value in the offseason.

Ernie can never pull off a good trade. He also is selling low or not selling right. Its terrifying that he will never be let go.

agreed makes no sense. We are 8 games behind the 8th seed but i doubt will do it if anything we should just wait and draft Porter or Shabazz.

Kind of glad it didn't go down. Not sure what the long term upside was for Washington. Best case scenario would have been that Caron's offensive numbers rose dramatically upon his return to the Zards and by the time next years trade deadline rolled around, he would end up being a better trade chip than Ariza. IDK

At least now we have some idea of of Ariza's trade value going forward, but unless we get a new GM, I doubt the knowledge will do us much good.

Ariza is better, younger and even makes a little less.

I love Tough Juice but he's pretty much done at this point...no quicks, no lift. Kinda surprised Sterling shot it down.

Heard this on 980 and immediately thought it had to have been more than a straight up deal. Might this have actually been the "Plan A" for moving Crawford? Something like Ariza+Crawford for Butler+pick? And then they had to resort to the Boston trade? Interesting thought.

And even though Caron makes a bit more, he's probably more of a buyout candidate than Ariza. Maybe he would have taken somewhat less to get his walking papers? I'd have to think he could still get the mini-MLE from somebody over the summer. Could have save the Wiz a couple mil - which, combined with moving Crawford could have made free agency more interesting.

I'm trying to not get mad over a deal that didn't happen but I can't help but be a little pissed that they'd even consider a trade like this....no upside whatsoever. This sounds like a trade they would have made just to say they did something.

The GM/owner combo really don't comfort me at all with their "vision".

Just because DA says it, doesn't make it so. There may have been other details that he missed or omitted.

The deal as reported makes no sense for the Wiz. Not only is Ariza younger and better, but there's also a chance he opts out this summer. Butler's money is fully guaranteed.
