Why Does Wall not step up against his peer PGs enough?

Sorry I need to vent..

But I've been telling any and everybody that Wall is on Kyrie, Lillard,Jrue's level..

But as I watched him in the Blue vs. White game.....man did he lack urgency. I want to see that killer instinct in Wall. I want p'od that Lillard got the start in front of him. I want him upset that Kyrie dropped 16+ in the first half. Sometimes Wall just "zones out" and its truly hard to watch.

Now I've got everybody telling me how Wall isnt on Kyrie's level, etc. Yes that a you (me) problem. But I just know he has a Westbrook/Rondo perfect combination potential...I just wish he went for that potential.

I know its just a meaningless game. It's I dont want Wall to be "irrelevant" in NBA circles. I dont want people to just say "He's pretty good". I dont want him to be the Josh Smith of PGs. The guy so talented...but never quite got it or improved to what he should be.

Again..I'm overreacting. I just think he can be great...but he doesnt always play with the swag or confidence.

rant/

10 pts/ 3 boards/ 2 assists in 20 minutes...Not great but solid. They didn't match him up against Kyrie's unit. Your comment would be more relevant if they went head to head...

Bringing Wall off the bench is just a dumb move.

Thibs coaches the Bulls, coincidence?

You have Wall and Cousins who love playing together and you sit them on the bench. And start Waiters.

If Thibs knew anything about Wall he would have had him starting, with Cousins, with Klay starting at SG. Let Wall get into the flow of the game and have a chance at slowing down Kyrie. Bring Lillard and Waiters in for points.

Etc.

I do agree that Wall isn't always as aggressive as he should be given his talent level, but he doesn't really shrink from any marquee matchups other than with Rose (and I expect that to change now that Wall is shooting it so much better and is more equipped to handle that caliber of player).

But please, do NOT use that team USA scrimmage to justify anything. If we're going by that measure of evaluation, Hayward>George, Faried>Cousins, Barnes>everyone not named Irving and Davis etc. Anyway, you'll only have to hear about Wall not being in the elite pg class until October, November at the latest. He's going to smash the league this year I think, and open a ton of eyes.

It's practice. We talking about practice.

He did get his 47/7/8 game against Conley - they both played over 40 minutes that game, so... unless you want to make the argument that he was being covered at times by Tony Freakin Allen...

The answer is obvious: Wall is a weak-minded wuss who chokes against tougher competition.

Well, in the 2011/2012 season his counterpart PER was 13.2 so there is that...

They checked him with a combination of several players that game, Conley, Allen, and Bayless each at points. Memphis really plays defense as a team. Gasol said it best when he won DPOY. And they're incredibly good at it usually. But Wall had their number that day. He single-handedly shredded them.

How about this stretch of 10 games in January 2012:

J. Calderon 1-5 shooting 3 points
C. Paul 1-9 for 2 points
J. Calderon 2-6 for 8 points
C. Duhon 2-6 for 7 points
D. Rose 10-20 for 35 points
K. Walker 8-18 for 20 points
K. Lowry 1-7 for 9 points
K. Walker 4-19 for 8 points
J. Holiday 8-15 for 17 points
A. Bradley 1-8 for 3 points

Stop with your relentless logic and evidence!

We are talking about a game that happened yesterday not last year!

When will you people learn that its all about "what have you done for me lately"?

I disagree with Cousins starting over either Davis or Monroe at this point.

Monroe is a REALLY bad defensive player. Zach Lowe wrote a fantastic article on the Pistons a couple of weeks back detailing his defensive atrocious play. He's Jamison-esque bad on defense.

^^ Just based on what I saw yesterday- I liked Monroe over Cousins. He seemed to do a good job creating his own offense. Then again, his defensive liabilities perhaps didn't show as much when guarding someone like DeAndre Jordan.
