How would Ernie's kids play as a team?

If this was a summer league or even NBDL team with a relatively weak pickup bench, would it win the Vegas summer league and how would the roles play out?

Seraphin
Vesely
Singleton
Rice
Maynor

I'm assuming Seraphin becomes the primary scorer with Rice as the main kick out target and Maynor probably taking more shots than he should and scoring inefficiently though his playmaking should be fine. Vesely's rebounding picks up as it finally did this year in Euroleague and Singleton stays as the relatively passive 5th option, occasionally trying to drive or go hero if they pass the ball to him rather than move without the ball -- as he has been doing the last two years.

I think they would win the summer league if we're talking about these players as they are right now, and not as they were when they first entered the league. Maynor would be the best PG in summer league and Seraphin would be the best big man. Seraphin may have some trouble against NBA caliber defenders and schemes, but he'd tear up the undersized, inexperienced bigs in Summer League, particularly when the coaches don't scheme to stop him with double-teams.

Vesely, as crappy as he is, was one of the better players in the last summer league. Rice would be a sound SG, better than average. Only Singleton would be an average or worse player as a SF, but he'd probably be a bit above average at PF when matched up against the undersized PF's on the other teams. The Wizards could find another half-decent spot up shooter to man one of the wing positions.

One BIG problem would be rebounding. Seraphin rebounds like a SF, as does Singleton. Rice did good board work in the D-League. Maynor's "rebounding" is pretty close to non-existent.

I agree with nate that it would probably win summer league. They'd be a decent D-League team, at least.

Seraphin and Maynor didn't play, if I recall correctly.

They still would suck even with them two on the team.

Yeah I'm confused on what qualifies as an Ernie's kid. For instance, how come Wall, Beal, Porter, and Booker aren't considered here.

Because it would make the group look a lot better ?

Wall, Temple
Beal, Glen Rice Jr
Otto, Singleton
Ves, Booker
Kevin

Those would be Ernie's kids and right now we have no read on Otto which would be a big chunk of that.

Temple? If he's on the list, why isn't Maynor? Why isn't Al Harrington? So, no Temple...

But I think you have to add Satoransky and Shelvin Mack, even if they're not Wizards right now.

Title came after; I was just thinking about the young vets. I didn't include Wall and Beal because they are starters; Porter because there is such a wide swing of opinions on him after his miserable summer league and because I wanted to see if people thought there was a future for Chris Singleton, and Booker because I think he's established his level if he can only stay healthy whereas I think the other 5 are still "potential" players and therefore I'm still a lot more interested in what you guys that see them a lot more than I do think of them.

Sorry if the "Ernie's kids" label was confusing.

You see Temple as a similar acquisition to Maynor and AH ? Temple was a DL call up that never had a 1 yr contract before.

Satoransky isn't on the active roster and is still developing overseas. Mack is gone.

I see Satoransky as the only one that should even be considered added to the list, but I think its easy to understand why he wasn't listed.

NBD -- I think of "Ernie's kids" as referring to his picks. Obviously anyone can define the term any way they want! :)

As I'm fond of repeating it seems: going into the 3 drafts of 2010-11-12 we owned 10 picks (including #s 1, 6 and 3). So far we have exactly 2 established NBA players out of those assets. Add Booker if you like, since his problem is injuries wch couldn't be foreseen, and you still get a record of incredibly lousy work.

I think of Ernie's Kids as EG's picks excluding the ones that were essentially no-brainers. Ernie doesn't get credit for Wall and Beal because any moron in that position would have made the same pick. With that in mind, Ernie's Kids are:

Vesely
Seraphin
Booker
Singleton
Satoranksy
Blatche*
Young*
McGee*
Crawford *

Man, what a horrible bunch of picks.

I suppose we should now include Porter and Rice in the group too.

Also, Pecherov

Peter John Ramos

I suppose we can cut him a little slack and acknowledge that 2nd round picks are pretty much crapshoots anyway. We shouldn't beat him up too much on those misses. With that in mind, EG's Kids are:

Vesely
Seraphin
Booker
Singleton
Crawford*
McGee*
Young*
Pecherov*

All are first round picks. All save Booker are disappointing for their draft position. (You can make a case that Young and McGee aren't all that bad. They're idiots, but they can help a team if their role is limited.)

McGee, Young, Blatche, Booker were OK picks considering where they were drafted. Crawford is not an Ernie kid IMO. Vesely is the one that is truly bad that could get some GMs fired.

I don't think Beal was such a no-brainer or I wouldn't have been so worried the Wiz would pass on him for a shot at Thomas Robinson or Harrison Barnes or something. Wall, yeah.
